so pretty much, they go to the damn place, but was not even polite to watch others get they prizes because they didn't think they could win? so why go then? explain why they failed on they game

To follow the game development properly they should have told they would win, when they would go to receive it just a small piece of the price should be delivered and charged for it.
Not necessarily being told they'd have won it, but at least that they'd been nominated for the award would prolly have been enough for Hello Games to be there.
Personally, if my game would have been bashed at release like NMS was, I'd not expect to get any award at all either. Though I gotta say, after all patches the game has become pretty good. Perhaps that's also what they took into account when handing out the award for innovation..?
These guys have been in hiding since their game launched. I was surprised to see they even had a session at the GDC. I am actually surprised Sean showed up but it is no surprise that he went back to his hidey hole as soon as his session was over.

We couldn't really have expected there to be a universe generated without massive repetition. One thing that was worth buying the game for was to take off from a planet or vice versa. It was a big sandbox, but there wasn't much you could do in it. It was mostly managing the inventory of your ship, your weapon, and building various parts for them.
I gotta say if I was them I wouldn't of showed up either. I have never seen a game, get such a bad review on steam. Even really horrible garbage games like shower with daddy get 1000 times better reviews.

Of course they should have showed up. They could have used the opportunity to thank people but to also admit that they learned what to do and what not to do. They could have easily turned this around, been humble and gracious and thankful.
But then again there is the cliche of software developer with no social skills. So maybe that's it.

The real story here is the lack of GDC credibility for ever giving No Man's Sky an award. If you gave them a burger king crown it would still be undeserved.

Some people liked this cliche. It allowed them to avoid interaction with other people. That's why many people joined the IT industry originally.
Either way, the cliches people bring up now are really not that old. They developed probably 15 to 20 years ago. There are much older cliches that have been brought back or are still in use. It depends on whatever suits the current societies ideas.
Perhaps they were lost on one of the ever-so-many procedural generated worlds they touted so highly?? Quick, someone form a search team.. I'm sure someone could eventually find the Devs and bring them news of their award..

As to the game itself, a recent game arrived and immediately a thought arrived lol.
Knowing what NMS is trying to do and how difficult it is to do it,the game still looks better than the new Zelda that looks awful.NMS is a game with no fanbase following,no Blizzard behind them,no mass marketing, brand new Ip idea and looks better than a legendary IP game.
Every once in a while something comes along that sticks with me forever,NMS can lay claim to the first real attempt at this type of design and Zelda lays claim to the worst lighting i have ever seen in a game ,a popular Ip game at that.
I said it before,we are not ready for a NMS game yet,yes i like the idea and the attempt but it will take a massive budget and a lot of power to do it triple A.Having seen a lot of cool stuff of late,we may be closer than i originally thought, perhaps another 5-7 years we might see a big leap in improvement on the NMS ideas.

Sony threw them under the bus and didn't even give a reach around.
I liken them to the naive rock back exploited by the big record label. They thought they wanted something and didn't know how to handle what the record label brought. When the record label is done squeezing them they lock the front door.
You say "no social skills" I say uninterested and indifferent to the fake appreciation bullshit. Developers and IT people have social skills. You don't get complex software or hardware projects done without them. I essentially "raid" every single day at work and do it well. I just don't get energized from that level of social interaction.
So maybe they lack social skills. Maybe they're more experienced and jaded and just don't care now. Maybe they care but were afraid that gamers would once again use this as an opportunity to shit on them and they just didn't want to deal with it again, at least in that venue for that game. Just look at how nasty some people are in this thread.
Well, like I said it was "cliche". Though maybe the better word was Stereotype.
I've known a lot of Software developers and I can't say they had strong social skills other than being able to navigate their own group. I wouldn't go as far as to say all software developers lacked them but my experience is that there is a bit of social awkwardness there. At least from my experience.
And as I said, this was a chance for them to go beyond and to be bigger than all the criticism. I think you are focusing too much on the award. It's not about the award and whether it has merit or not. It's about coming out in front of your peers, being proud about what you accomplished realizing mistakes were made but being strong yet humble in the face of adversity.
The award was "not the award", it was the opportunity and they blew it.

But they were there. They were just eating dinner and did show up later. They obviously were just not expecting the award.
It was just a screw-up and nothing more.
