2. Squeaky, over-excitable pre-teens that have no tone/volume control, no way in hell will I be subjected to that.
3. Voice has its place, and I know it absolutely does enhance gameplay for a lot of people (myself included most of the time) but there has to be some control involved as well.
4. Trolling, if all are required to be on voice then you are going to end up with more than one of these guys...
The list goes on, but my point is no, it should not be required.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
5. Accents. In one guild I belonged to we had a couple of brothers we called the 'swamp people' if on separately you had a chance of understanding them, although one was pretty difficult. But the two of them together and they might as well have been speaking martian.
Lots of English speakers can be mutually unintelligible, text is often safer.
It seems to always be that one dude that doesn't have PTT and is chomping Doritos, the horrible parent yelling at their kid to stop crapping on the floor, and dude watching porn, someone who decides everyone wants to listen to their music, the stoner who has to inform everyone every five minutes that's he's gonna toke another one, etc.
And when I come across without wanting to use a microphone, I get told "WTF is wrong with you, don't you want to be a good player?" And I think to myself - what does a microphone have to do with being a good player?
Maybe I'm just an old fart anymore. I remember raiding in Planes EQ, with like 10 different chat channels, three bars of hotkeys, and no one used voice chat for anything. We still seemed to get stuff done; we just had to actually learn the encounter and pay attention to the screen rather than wait until someone in voice chat (or some addon) tells me to do something.
It's called evolution and no one can stop it. Human race is evolving and the technology as well with big steps, doing the same as back when you played EQ is not acceptable it's like staying asleep the whole time. EVOLVE!!!
Keep your voice. I'll play games my way and that is with immersion, and learning encounters and the abilities of my characters as opposed to being ordered what to do.
Voice chat is an enabler of laziness, not an evolution.
Don't really need yet another mechanic to discourage grouping.

Well you could ask if someone knows the fight before hand. You can also make short hand code up among other things. We got by without voice chat in the earlier days of raiding when a slight error in group synergy could spell doom for everyone and yet we didn't require people to go crazy in voice chat. You do know back in 99/00 when everquest first came out we still had raiding and voice chat was more or less a fevered dream of a madman at the time to work well anyways (a lot of people were still on dial up and would take a long time to transition load screens). The same goes for FFXI and many other early games that had raiding and the like. We used to be able to coordinate just fine with no voice though and most of us still can do it without voice.

Some MMO's seem to even avoid things as chat bubbles like GW2, then after much suggestions they added them otherwise talk with people near you would be impossible if they didn't notice local chat.
So proximity voice chat should be a norm for those who promote player interaction.
Besides, a required voice chat allows some interesting new features. Walk into a tavern and your group chat transforms into a tavern-only channel automatically and reverts when you return to the larger world. It could be interesting.
I suspect that a good part of the objection comes from people who would rather not have their male voice give away the fact that they're gender-bending. That's the only kind of immersion that a required voice chat feature really interferes with.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
No game should ever require this. It should be an option for those that want to use it. I laugh at guilds when they say you must use this or install this. No I must not. The only one that must are the ones who don't know how to play and have to be hand walked thru everything.
Can it make gaming easier for group activities? Yeah it does, but should it ever be a requirement. Nope not ever.
