But I cannot understand how people are denying that Funcom purposely mislead the TSW community.
Yep, and it's not even just the hopes which were based on those lies, but cash as well. The sale at Xmas for example, backed up with "after Exiles the game will get its largest update since Tokyo"... they've sold there a game which they knew will be axed soon...
If I had known it would come to this I wouldn't have bothered with the last challenge. Either way I am not as deeply involved so I can only imagine what this must feel like to you.
The whole point I am actually trying to make was covered in this post:
"The way it was done could've been handled better. They should've been upfront awhile ago about the death of TSW instead of just dropping it on us like the A bomb on Hiroshima.
If people had been told that the development will come to a hold they would have slowly gotten used to the idea. Instead they were told great things were to come just to find out their game is going into maintenance mode.

Nah, I'm a hopper and still have 3 main games left STO just got an update for example. I'm angry more for the community, it was disheartening to see their desperation yesterday... AoC players just shrugged after the last year's changes, just like the official maintenance mode a month ago: "yeah, typical Funcom, f.ck them".
But TSW folks never had that, they were treated with respect over the years (sure, since they were the main income source for Funcom...), and now out-of-the-blue FC gave them the finger. "Go and f.ck yourselves, we don't need you anymore, we will have this new action game crowd, we can sell to them the same game again, and milk them with microtransactions. They might even accept p2w, since that is common in action games, right? So long, suckers".
And yes, if they tell it beforehand, it would've sadness, mostly. (and of course no more income from sales, so obviously they didn't choose that way) But with keeping them in the hopes of new content is coming, then kill the game under them without a word... yep, that's not even typical Funcom, that's a new low even for them. And still no comment, officially they still haven't said anything. Look at steam, TSW is removed, and under Legends they market the new game with TSW's reviews and ratings - just to rub some more salt in the wound.

All I can say is what I learned with SWG, your personal connection to the game and community isn't something these companies place above potential gains. I personally see them having far more to gain here than SWG had with NGE. Or even what they may lose. Especially if their attempt at improving the game-play works out. I think what these companies have learned is that the MMO elements in games like TSW/TOR, can be a detriment to the intended experience (story, puzzles, quests).

There's no improvements coming to the original? And we still have to pay for DLC packs, while Legends gets them free?
I was excited about this, but this sounds like bullshit. Paying customers are getting left out in the dust. Usually in a F2P transition we get some benefits.
Here? NOTHING.
If you put tons of money into the original, and paid for those EXPENSIVE Issue packs...now everyone gets them free and you get nothing.

Once again, a game I like a lot, purchased Lifetime Account before it went live. Goes in the Direction of Star Wars Galaxies NGE. Awesome....
TSW Legends will be on separate server, so you can continue your TSW vanilla MMO like usual. TSW will still be B2P, while TSW Legends will be F2P title from the get go.

People are upset (again,) but this time it looks like some of them have finally calmed down. I think that stream did a lot to alleviate concerns for many.
The funny and really strange part was when one of the interviewers asked if they could play in "Keyboard only" mode which was weird and bad enough by itself, but then a ton of people in chat were like "Yea I do that!"

I enjoyed the Secret World story chain right through Tokyo and all the Issues. I never liked dungeons, though, and didn't like stealth missions. Not wanting to run dungeons kept superior equipment out of my hands. I almost always played solo, though it was nice to have the opportunity to PvP. Hopefully, the new focus on the solo experience means that group content won't be so essential for progress.
I'm sure I'll try Legends, but I might lose interest if I have to grind too much to see content I've already seen.
I'm sorry to hear that there will be fewer players allowed in a field. The world seems more alive when it is populated by people doing things. I really like the Guild Wars 2 model where you can get impromptu groups just by being in the same location.
I was vaguely interested in this until I saw the "Name Reservations" link on their site. That's a no-go for me. I just can't play another game where I can't be named what I want because someone else got it first. It's a stupid and unnecessary problem that has been solved by many other games already. Couple that with already having been disappoined twice by Funcom (Conan and TSW), and I feel pretty safe skipping this.

Out of curiosity what games allow multiple people to have the same name. I've never played an online game that names were not on a first come first served basis.

Cryptic games use the account handle to tie names down.
Yep. Every time there's a character transfer in a game for any reason (merge, relocate, etc.) the name collision is always a hot topic, and a lot of players used to cite Cryptic :waving: their implementation is great from both directions, very flexible from the player's side, and easy to manage from the dev's side.
The only drawback of it (at least for me, but I loathe this whole "social media" bullsh.t and stuff, so probably it's just me ) is the "always on" side-effect, that you can't hide behind an alt to have some peace and alone time when in need. Every time you log in on any alt (and trust me, I'm an altoholic, have tons of alts ), into any of their 3 games, everyone who has you on the friend list gets a notification... I mean, come on, what about privacy, and living the hermit dream?
From reading the FAQ GrandMasters (lifetime subscription) need to log in before the 5th of April & then by linking their old TSW account with the new TWSL account they will get lifetime patron status.

Interesting but log in where? Their website(s) don't give me any option to link my GM acount. Log into the game? Need to reinstall hella fast then if I need to do it before the 5th :skull:

That is basically what is going to happen to the game. TSW is dead. This console forward rehash is the play. Stop making excuses.

I agree.
But all in all I can't wait for SWL!
It was always a pretty good game and not well suited to being a MMORPG as the other players were never really incorporated into the story content.
