Huh? Based on this statement, you're saying that anything that is fiction is not for adults because they have issues we would never deal with like aliens coming down to earth or something of that nature? As for a book having a "cutesie pootsie name", how is "Harry Potter and the ....." any different then say, "Sherlock Holmes and the..." ? Or are you saying all of the Sherlock Holmes books are for children too?
Originally posted by methane47 That doesn't mean that Adults shouldn't read it... What Most of us mean when we say that it is a kids book we mean that Adults have nothing to gain by reading Harry Potter Because the Issues dealt with have already been done and adults have seen the same plots time and time and time again....
I'm not sure what you mean by "nothing to gain"? What do adults have to gain from the J.R.R. Tolkien series? There's a set of fiction books that's beyond the reading of many kids. As for the Harry Potter series dealing with issues that adults never have to deal with, everyone deals with people dying. Everyone deals with personal conflict wth other people. Also, how many movies have you gone to see that have the same plots over and over again? Yet, we, as adults still go see them for the entertainment value.

Keeping us back from what?
Originally posted by methane47 Let me give you an analogy with an RPG....lets say Final Fantasy.... If you are on level 50+ sure you can go fight rats or bats or small dogs or something easy.... But killing them won't give you any XP... while If you Take on Dragons or Malboras or Ultimate Weapon.... THen you will gain a whole lot of XP... But that doesn't mean you can't kill a rat or two....Get it?
No, actually I don't get it. No matter what people read, from the newspaper, to the bible, to books of fiction or world history, people get something out of it. If reading something doesn't give the reader anything, why is the reader even reading the item in the first place? The greatest thing about books is that people extract from them what they want to extract from them. Ten people reading the exact same thing may get ten different things out of it. It's all what you want to make of it. Perhaps you get nothing out of reading Harry Potter, but, the real question is, have you even tried?
There's alot of people out there who bash the book but they haven't read any of it. I just don't understand how people can criticize something they know nothing about.
Anyway, as for getting things out of books, when I read a childrens book to my 11 month old daughter, I get alot out of it. The books all deal with issues which I would never deal with in my life, but I get to see my daughter's reactions to what I read and the pictures in the book. That gives me more "XP" than I could have ever gotten playing any type of RPG.
I have one thing to say, Ive heard Snape kills dumbledore(or however the hell is spelled) if its true, im not suprised. Would you want to kill your employer for hiring 3 other guys (including that quill guy with the turban) for a job you've been after for many years? Most people would. End of opinion.
Edit: and that guy who killed himself over a spoiler? Dear lord what an idiot, sorry for bieng rude but my God, he's probably being laughed at by everyone and everything in the afterlife. lol .
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
