Totally agree, and I dont get it either. No idea what their target audience is with this garbage, but someone must be playing it. Not only that, they are "making money" with these games. ... *SMH

The power of P2W, really.  You don't actually need a good game to be financially successful with it.

Hehe, well this game is pretty trash. But as someone who has been playing Naruto Online since launch I'll try to answer.

My current "main" game is Heroes of the storm currently but sometimes when I get off work after a long day I'm just not in the mood for a twitch game. On lazy days instead of watching TV or something I can play Naruto Online laid back and relaxed in my chair. The auto-play is actually a PRO in that respect. Eating dinner, having a beer, getting ready for work whatever I can be logged in and actually progressing in some way.

Also I call these games the ultimate second monitor game, if I'm in a dungeon finder in ESO I ALWAYS have Naruto Online playing in my second screen. Its a fun distraction, I love the chars and artwork and even the PVP has made strides to group people by power level FINALLY so the whales will fight whales the free players will fight free players. Yes the game is so gross with its "micro" transactions, the prices of rare ninjas is INSANE. Like I wont put a dollar amount here because it will blow your mind. But I just love how easy it is to play no matter what my mood is.

Hopefully that helps a little.

I personally do not even call these things games as to me they are not. They are Game Simulators. It's about the equivalent of putting on a PC VR headset to watch an AI play a console game in a virtual room.

Is there some kind of Build-A-'Game' out there where you just add dialog and art, and it spits out another of these self-playing 'games'?

I'm typically a tough dude who would never say "awwwwwwwe" when I see a puppy or some other cute things. But your kid was adorable even if off cam lol. As a father with grown ones I envy you, best age!
