Are we fed up with these survival games?

MaurgrimMaurgrim Member RarePosts: 1,327
Yes I am, I don't know why there are so many of them but they are pretty much the same.
You are naked or in rags, you have to craft the basic tools and work up from there.
If you watch sead survival game trailers that are set in a multiplayer gameworld, you will read or listen on the trailer that you are special, you can build your own house or setup up trade lanes or even be a king yadda yadda yadda, they are all the same pointless crap.

Can we please end this plage that is "survival" I'm so fed up with all these games that really produce NOTHING original or anything worth doing, people used to say WoW clones, well these survival games take the grand price of cloning.

Done ranting, need a cold beer.

They're the new "MMO". What I mean by that is the mmo genre has become so stale and so copypasta (500 thousand different F2P casino style "MMOs"), the suits are finally realizing there isn't much if any real money to be made in that genre anymore and they're trying to milk the survival/openworld style of game.  Mark my words, 1-2 years you're going to start seeing paid loot crates and such be the norm. The grind times are going to get even worse to "incentivize" buying those loot crates.

This has been kind of a lull in MMOs for me but it does not upset me. There are a few MMOs on the horizon I'm looking forward to :)

Haven't played one yet, still waiting for someone to actually deliver a finished product.

I think theres still room for a well made survival game, but probably not until consumers stop showing a willingness to purchase incomplete games.

Clones in general are a bad thing. Survival clones are a lot less worn out than WoW clones though. But yeah, any survival game released at this point to doesn't add some kind of major twist on the genre... don't bother. We already have plenty.

I agree. I like Conan Exiles and I like Dark and Light (so far). They are closer to what I thought mmorpg's were supposed to be when I started out.

Not going to happen. Survival games allow people to host their own servers. Servers can set their own grind times. Most servers tend to speed up the grinding process to the point you're maxing your character in a couple days.

If they try to make a pay barrier to get past their grind times they will need to host their own servers and disable non-official servers. If they do that, and the game is clearly inferior (Ruined by cash shops) they're going to have to pay a lot more to host a game nobody is going to play.

Just not worth it. Maybe if in 5-10 years nobody has released a survival game that isn't pay to win or legal to host privately and so the pay to win ones are the only ones that aren't super outdated this will happen. In 2 years though. Nah. Everyone will still be playing Ark, and Dark and Light, and 7 Days to Die, and Minecraft and the Pay 2 Win Survival game is going to get ignored by most people.

exactly. At this point, with the exception of a few mmorpg's, I'm almost prepared to say screw it, I'm only going to play these games.

I actually enjoy them but they don't seem to have much work put into it... so not very good yet but still like the idea and the feel, just too bad that I come across too many problems to play it. I've tried... very hard. No.

The only survival game I've run across that's NOT like the others is The Long Dark.

The only things you'll fight off are the cold, hunger, thirst, and the occasional wolf or bear if you're carrying raw meat. No building. Craft what you need and try and survive.

It's a lot harder than it sounds.

Plus it has one leg up on the others: It's releasing August 1st. lol

Yes i am and to answer the WHY so many?It is a super cheap genre to make a game for,at least the way devs are doing it which is pretty much identical in each game.

Not one of these is worth more than a 1/10 because they are lacking at least 90% of the game that they should be.I am thinking of my fave game and it took 7 years,so 84 months, most of these survival games look like about 3-6 months tops,so not even 10% of a decent quality game.
So yeah bunch them all together with a 1/10 rating.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The only one I like out of many survival games is PUBG too bad it doesn't have more funds to work with in development I tried H1Z1 but Day Break can't make good games anymore the whole thing of not knowing where your at in game was really pissing me off.

Knowing where you're at...as in location?

H1Z1 maps aren't large enough to get lost.

I would rather play a good survival game then most of the MMO's out right now. There a couple of exceptions but those worth playing are not WoW clones and have been around a while. The thing I like about the survival genre is that I can mostly play with those that I want to and don't have to be restricted to any particular server rules but those of my friends.

A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game and abbreviated to RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.
You can go ahead and read through the whole article. While it mentions progression as something sometimes being present in RPGs, at no point does it ever say progression is something required to be an RPG.

That's probably why they are called "Role Playing Games" and not "Vertical Progression Based Games."

lol .. what is it to you?

No one asks you to play any of them. If other people are enjoying them, why would the devs care what you think? If not, they will go away.

In fact, I would say MMOs are as much pointless entertainment as any survival games.

Silly man. RPG stands for Regular Progression Game.

Where ever did you come up with your quaint definition, a LARP festival or comic book shop?  ;)

I usually avoid survival games, as they tend not to be fun to me.. However, Subnautica is actually pretty damn cool.. Amazing environment.. Cool (and sometimes terrifying) creatures.. I'll always prefer MMOs and RPGs to survival, but this game proved to me that it could be done to interest even me.. I suppose I'd say that every genre has continued potential even with a glut of clones.. :)

At the moment survival games are what MMOs used and were supposed to be - minus massive number of players.

Yet, i find that having 50-100 players makes for much stronger community.

That being said, survival games are rough around the edges mostly. And none of them is out of EA even...

Survival games are not affecting your enjoyment of any MMO's. You think those dev's would have made an MMO instead of their online survival game? Probably not. I don't like "clicker" games but I am not "fed up" with them. I am fed up with them showing up too much in the app/play store though! lol. I wish they would just put them all into a clicker category.
