How do the account upgrades work?

If I buy the Deluxe edition at a discount and then want to upgrade it to a higher edition do I pay a fixed cost or is it incremental based on what I paid?

Example:  Say regular price is $50 but I pay $30.  The next tier is $90.
If I upgrade in game would I pay an extra $40 or $60?

    You get discounted the amount you paid.  I bought the deluxe version for $60 and in the store it shows I can upgrade to the limited version for $90.  The limited edition costs $150 so it works out the same if I would have purchased it upfront or upgraded.
