Hey, it's just games mimicing real life, right? I don't own a bar in real life. If I did, I might actually buy a tavern in the game, too. If my bar was successful. Either way, I don't think it's a matter of idiots, as it is people spending their disposable income. I just read something earlier this week about Rhonda Rousey spending like $1300 on WoW TCG cards to get a mount. People gots money!

I mean I don't feel like doing the math but the amount of people who would play the game narrowed down to those who are interested in KS/Crowdfunding narrowed down to those who are wealthy enough to afford these things is definitely less than the amount of people who will spend insane amounts of money despite not having it.  Those people, I would consider idiots.

Such an advanced tavern with so many features in it wasted on what will be such a small playerbase (because open-world PvP is always going to be niche).

That said, all those features basically just add up to a glorified customizeable quest hub.

Again, and I said it at in another response, it's the over-simplification or homogenization of complex features which is one reason the genre is in the state it is. This is the type of idea that people familiar with the genre have been asking for, regularly, for years. What's the biggest problem with the genre at this point? Removal of social aspects!! So we get people attempting to resolve genre-wide issues or community concerns and it's met with luke warm, "meh" attitudes.

So maybe the problem with the genre is the people within it after all. If you can't see where this is a positive advancement, new, old or otherwise, then maybe this isn't the genre for you.
I don't think an indy crowd-funded MMORPG has the budget for what you're asking for.  These guys will be lucky to have enough money to make and maintain the main game, let alone resources to spend on frills like sprucing up the quest hub.

"Customization by the owner of the tavern" <------ How much will owning a tavern cost? Sounds more like SotA than SWG.

    Yup. I noticed that too.

Have they officially announced that they'll be selling in-game real state for cash? If not, this seems like they're tipping their hand that it's coming.

Not sure how this is news, but players will be able to own all sorts of real-estate in Ashes... but it's all in-game, because unlike SotA, cities and buildings aren't just 'there' to be purchased; Nodes, cities, and buildings all need to be built up in-game, and likewise they can all be completely destroyed in-game.

As for the tavern features, they sound good, and honestly anything is better than a totally impersonal auto dungeon finder.

You will NOT need to spend real life cash to buy land or buildings you guys. No pay to win has been one of their major stances since the beginning. It will be cosmetics only in the shop. I don't know where some of you got the idea it would cost real money.

    Sounds awful....

    1) Competing with out of game voip services is a waste of resources.
    2) "Player run quests" will either be exploited or pointless. It will be crap anyways(NWO).
    3) It is impossible to make a bounty system that isn't exploitable and rewarding at the same time.
    4) Sitting at table as lfd tool....enough said.

Game designing isn't the same as game dreaming...

    1) out of game voip belongs to guilds, not in-games zones and has a completely different use. Just because you hear voices doesn't mean they're the same thing or in competition. Not saying this would be great or lame, it is something we have to see. But comparing to voip services is irrelevant.

    2) sadly, I agree. But it's a very desirable concept. If someone call pull it off of course. Hence I like more people trying, than them scaring away. What greatness have ever been achieved through not doing something?

    3) why?

    4) Seems you're just ranting. If that's the case, then whatever.

    3) why?
In Ultima Online, people would just rack up bounties and then pass them to their alt accounts.

Even perma-stat-loss penalties for having your bounty turned in didn't deter them much.

Of course, AoC could always make the perma stat loss be ridiculously heavy but that opens up a whole new can of worms (which ultimately will likely lead to pvp penalties being too harsh and thus transforming AoC into yet another one of those games that tried to have PvP but failed so it ended up clamping down so hard on it that it became nigh meaningless)

    1) It isn't irrelevant. That is how voip is used.

People barely type to strangers, voip will make no difference in they desire (not) to communicate.

I believe several games tried this already and it doesn't work, certainly not for EVE.

    3) Explained by poster above.

    4) Hardly, every point I made is well reasoned and backed by history of evolution of mmos.

Considering a third of the team worked on SWG I'd expect it. Duh

The RP community would probably enjoy in-game voip services. Also easier to talk with PUGs via in-game feature than having to tell them to alt tab and join a specific server/channel with a specific password. And if I recall correctly, they are partnering with discord for their in-game VOIP for pubs and parties/raids. I'd like to see how it goes and if they manage to integrate it with existing voip services.
