I voted No, but am closer to Maybe, which wasn't an option.

I would play a robot if robots in this fictional universe had free will.  (It's sort of implied by allowing the player to choose this as a playable race).  But there needs to be some sort of consistency in the fiction.  I wouldn't want to play a robot who's only function in life was "Identify life form.  Classification: Orc-equivalent.  Action:  Smack until dead."  I also don't want to play a pure evil creature like a Dalek.  So, me playing a robotic character would depend entirely on the context.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

So you mean they would have to be sentient?... in the lore.

The only case in which I'd play a robot is if it interacted as a person with NPCs, whether they were other robots or humanoids.  For example I'd play a transformer or the type of mecha or starship which has its own personality and can choose what pilot it wants to work with.  Ideally it would be a race of silicon-based organisms which reproduced sexually on their own and were not created by humans.  I don't want to roleplay as something asexual or lacking in individuality or emotions.  (Totally no offence meant to asexuals though.  It's just doesn't fulfill my wish-fulfillment quota.)
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

But would you play an adbot/chat AI character?

Why no?  It obviously depends on implementation.  I love Mech games and while technically, you're the guy inside, you're really a robot.
