The new Ship that was just announced will flyable by 3.7, RSI Mantis.
This ship comes already with it's gameplay loop already ready to release with 3.7. The mechanic is "Quantum Enforcement":
"At its core, Quantum Enforcement gameplay is about stalling quantum travel using a Quantum Enforcement Device. The device is comprised of three rings housed in the rear of the craft. As Tome suggests, there are two basic features of the Mantis that prevent players from safely zipping from one end of the persistent universe to the other: Quantum Snare and Quantum Dampening.
"Quantum Snare is going to be a large-radius event like fishing, where you pull people out of quantum travel and hold them there as long as you have the device on. Quantum Dampening is when you sidle up to ships and then prevent the quantum drive from activating in the first place," he described."
While a small patch it has quite the impact on gameplay, specifically the points:
Playing with friends for hard missions now has a mechanic behind it to share the mission progress and rewards.
Ship rentals are a large boost for new players to be able to access all the different content without needing the pledge for that relevant ship.
FPS mining is quite profitable currently, it opens the mining aspect to everyone beyond just who is using the mining ships.
Player inventory working with the harvestable added a point for looting stuff players find/harvest beyond just trading cargo, allowing such loot to be sold for money.
After the 3.7 release, 3.7.1 follow up patch is around to fix standing issues.
Bed logout appears to be working again allowing to log back into the game where from where you logged out, as well the fixes for the new mechanic quantum interdiction.
And the last roadmap update now focusing on 3.8, set to release by christmas.
Is there still no info on wtf is going on with SQ42 chapters progress?
At the moment I can't even guess whether they've hit a major roadblock, or just stopped updating the progress altogether, or something else.
The SQ42 roadmap is still updated as far the feature-set goes, the chapters that felt behind were updated when there were completions. Likely that timeframe will have to updated to bring what fell back to a current/future quarter milestone, but hasn't been done yet.
From roundup updates there were push backs stated due to a re-prioritization of resources to Quality-of-life improvements, cleaning up gameplay and fixing long-lasting issues on the game for the next two major updates.
The landing zone of the Microtech planet will release with exterior only on first release, interiors worked for 3.9.
The Prison Gameplay has been added to the roadmap to 3.9.
FPS Stealth and FPS improved Firing to Q2 2020 due to pending required tasks.
SQ42 FPS Navigation v2 and PU FPS Covers v1 & v2 to Q1 2020.
PU Flight AI work & FPS combat improvements work to Q2 2020.
Some resources prioritized
3D Pathfinding
QT Linking
Various SQ42 improvements
Target Selection
Formations
Player vs. Average AI
Atmospheric Combat
Citizencon stuff
Also the first mention of Server Meshing support work on current roadmap schedule timeframe (next 3 major updates),
It feels that the roadmap is losing its meaning with how they keep doing stuff outside it and adding it only once it's almost complete.
It would be better if they added a section for unscheduled stuff they're working on. Now they're hiding so much from the roadmap that it doesn't tell us the big picture.

It never told us the big picture as it was always a fluff piece for them to point to and say see we are transparent.
When they add things that they have been working on for a while and near completion so they look good or they just remove things because they are no longer going to work on them for now or just constantly push them back all the time they aren’t trying to show you any picture or be transparent.

It's never had any meaning. Everything is fungible.

A section with the unscheduled stuff has been suggested yeah, because stuff especially what's heavy in dev simply hasn't set a milestone yet. Attm just have mentions of what's in dev but not on schedule yet so it would make sense to expand.
Also from the roundup they say they want 3.8 to release sooner than the end of December usual date, unsure why
