I thought Paragon initially had some interesting ideas - with getting bonuses for killing minions, the side "mining" sites and the several stronger jungle sites giving different bonuses, along with the football delivery. Also, it had GREAT visuals.
BUT, it was very slow and clunky initially with movement. The card system was confusing, and they kept changing the system. The didn't utilize the multiple level possibilities that they built in from the start with the 3D approach. Characters were bland. And, they seemed to have no direction.
Agree greatly with the poster above that this is what happens when you don;t have any ideas of your own - it seems like they may have at first, but then went full-clone mode.
Paragon just needs to be any other game than a deckbuilding moba and I could see it having success
Honestly, if Epic had utilized their strengths and made Paragon into a moba with cover-based third person shooter combat, this game could have seen success. Of course, it would also need a new map, as the traditional trilane "summoner's rift" just isn't good enough for new games anymore.
MOBAs can work, but the time of new traditional mobas is long gone. If any new moba is going to see success, it has to carve a wild, unexpected new direction into the genre.
We just assembled a pro team with the intention of competing in e-sports tournaments around the globe, what now?
Move to Smite? It's basically the same game with far more depth and personality.
WTF Smite is the most toxic horrid community Hi-Rez who said its okay to harassment other players, can't even play ranked matches with Randoms without getting people refusing to call roles, then getting reported by toxic players wishing death upon you or others and then you get punished losing all your goodwill, or banned temporary if in a few games you get reported in just for either playing badly, or not playing to someones standards.
Smite is really toxic compared to paragon.
I could totally see people reporting and getting you banned for cheating. I encourage everyone to do the same if they encounter it.

Based on this particular person's history it must have been for cheating.

I notice in almost every game he disagrees with he always mentions being unfairly banned. Usually not disclosing why other than some vague response like "trolls reported me multiple times ". I'm old enough to know people like him never take any responsibility and always shift the blame.

I also agree 100% with what you said
Either that, or complaining about Game Guard. Every time.
Sad to hear. Call it a knockoff of smite but this game was actually really fun. Played since alpha several years ago, wasn't too keen on the map overhaul but I got used to it. The core gameplay is solid and all the characters are unique and really fun to play, fun progression too with tons of free stuff. I hope they end up selling it to someone or at least release it without the master server so we can still play bots/LAN/private games.
Uninstalling Fortnite forever. I will not contribute to the death of the only game i wanted from Epic games by supporting its own killer.
Glad i didn't give Epic a cent for any access to Fortnite. I'm proud i supported Paragon on PS4, but Epic wont get my money again.
Do you honestly think the line about Fortnite killing Paragon is true? Honestly?
Paragon has been flatlining for the better part of almost two years now. Under damn near any other AAA developer, this game would have been shut down months ago. Epic was in an odd situation. Their game was flopping, but a shutdown would present a particularly bad image, as that game also happened to be their only real representative online game. They needed a simultaneous success to save face when they shut down their failure, and they got it.
Yes, because they moved Paragon devs to Fortnite to maximize development and follow the pubg money as quick as possible. They left Paragon behind so in my eyes Fortnite killed it.
They did many massive updates to Paragon not too long ago so they were actively working on it, but with the sudden success of Fortnite when they decided to try the pubg gameplay, well, you know what happened next.
I understand closing down a game that is bringing loses instead of profit, but they could have done a lot more with Paragon, instead they probably just thought they are good enough with fortnite's Battle Royale massive influx of people/cash.
If you think about it, Fortnite was dead and they added a new game mode copying pubg and reached massive success. Why didnt they try adding a new non-moba mode to paragon as well?
I played SMITE pretty hardcore since beta up until about a year ago. I dabbled with Paragon a few times and was initially really excited, but once you get into the game and realize the route they took to "shake things up", you could probably understand why they were closing the game down. It just sucked. I gave them a long winded beta review and nothing I said was listened to (Not saying they HAD to listen to me), but it seemed as if they didn't really care about feedback and were really geared on doing it their own way, regardless of what the players said. Sad to see it go, but not surprised.

You named the problem right there. They gave Paragon multiple huge, sweeping reworks. All of them were controversial and none of them turned Paragon's population around for the better. From a development standpoint, it should be readily apparent at that point that they were effectively polishing a turd.
Now, as for non-moba modes, that's a question best answered by Epic themselves, but I will speculate.
A PvE mode could have been a great way to bring in casual players and make the card rework viable, but I am not certain that Paragon's combat system could really support it, given that character kits are really shallow for a moba and the game lacks proper cover and shooting mechanics to function as a shooter.
A battle royale mode would essentially be impossible. The game already has persistent optimization and memory leaking issues, on top of being a more demanding game than Fortnite. It could not possibly hold up to Battle Royale player numbers.
And of course, any new mode is only going to be effective if there are eyes on the game. Fortnite was able to capitalize on Battle Royale because the game was still young. Paragon basically died over a year ago.

Is the "we must build a MOBA" craze over?
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

That's why it's shutting down. Few people were playing it.
That's not going to do tonight. Paragon is going to cost down no matter what.
