For some reason this site REALLY like this game....It gets almost no attention anywhere else....it's a piss poor game also.
don't you just love people who constantly bitch about stuff they don't like, instead of simply doing stuff they DO like?
i like the game, combat could be better, but that goes for most mmos.
well, i will phrase it as simple as i can: if you prefer WoW, go play WoW, if oyu prefer anything else.... yea... try playing that?
if there would be only one game, it would be WoW, sooooo.... aren't we happy there are more mmos by now?
and whoever thinks SWL is dead... yea. try logging in, you will see it's not. never been.
PS: be the change, bitch
But he didn't say anything about WoW ...... but it is a dieing game and he had an opinion that it sucks....so he should play WoW??? I'm confused....
I lurk here for many, many years and there was a lot of hype behind TSW especially on these forums. It didn't live up to many peoples expectations but the site still follows the state of the game from time to time. There was a lot of interest in this game in the past. That may be why it is still reported on. Idk I don't have a crystal ball to see into the intentions of the writers minds. Maybe I should just go play WoW that seems to be the only option.....
game for sure is not too much popular but far from dead
Have you actually logged in recently? All the lower level zones are dead! It has ZERO people in it. The chat is totally dead!
I was my character through Solomon Island last weekend (was a bit bored) and in those 3 hours I was online, there wasn't a single line spoken in chat nor did I run into anyone!
In Agartha there were like 4-5 people walking around (all high level). Even in a city hub like London there was no one!
This was NEVER the case in TSW, not even in the last months I played it. There were always people in every zone during prime time. Even on Solomon Island.
Sorry, but for a F2P game (re)launched so recently and already no new players joining anymore. That is no good!
In comparison, Rift Prime still has tons of new players in the starter zones and that one has a monthly sub!

You seem to be exagerating a lot. There are always people in Agartha - ALWAYS
They said when they came up with this game that the zones will be limited to only few players (I believe it was about 10?) Hence why the ads on this site speak of "shared world rpg" instead of MMO.
Having pointed this out: On days when I don't want to play but just grab my 50 kills for the daily I go to the first zone and I see people talking all the time.
Someone up there said the number of players when he checked was 900. That is definately not a good number.
You however randomly blurt out stuff that is simply not true. 5 people in Agartha wtf kind of nonsense is that...
i am playing every day ,mostly in Egypt for daylies, during weekends has more free time than I am in another zones. There are always some players doing missions around
SWL isn't a lobby game where you have thousands pf people all just standing around waiting for their instance to pop. In SWL you actually have to go out in the game world.
But the population is niche at best. For the setting the small population works, but for a company that has bills to pay not so much.

I am not exagerating. Fact is that TSW had a larger population before they launched SWL, pissed off the TSW playerbase and now they are left with a shitty population in SWL and a dead TSW.
TSW was a classic, I am not sure why it was a much greater success. It may be that horror plus a modern setting is just not people want out of a MMO.
Pretty sure it was the clunky combat and animations that put people off more than anything... for me it was the vertical nature of the gear progression (and terrible balance between skills); if any game should have had mostly horizontal gear progression it is TSW, as the story is by far the best part, with the constant need to upgrade gear simply getting in the way.

Gear wasn't actually much of an issue. I made that same mistake in the beginning, drove me mad into frustration when I hit a huge wall in Blue Mountain and made me almost quit forever!
Then I just started reading about builds and invest some more time in it and changed to a better build and BOOM! Blue Mountain was suddenly a walk in the park.
This was the Achilles heel of TSW! It give you so much freedom in the Skills system, that you could literally create terrible builds that just didn't work at all and then you are in for a tough horrible ride through the game if you didn't adapt. It was critical to find the right synergies between weapons.
This is what put a lot of people off sadly, since people are too used to playing fixed classes, with the right skills being served on your platter to get you through the game. So a lot of people just didn't get the TSW skills system and quit, because they got stuck.
That's why a year later Funcom implemented starter builds, to guide new players and reward them with a cosmetic gear set of said build when fully unlocked.
This was a big improvement, but it was sadly too late for most. They should have included that with launch.
Tokyo with the AEGIS system was the next big mistake. I absolutely hated the AEGIS system. It was utterly stupid and made me (and the rest of my cabal) rage quit permanently. Never came back.
Secret World Legends is an okay re-release, but they have removed and revamped a lot of stuff away that made TSW great in the first place.
I tried numerous times to get into this game, but it just seems like I was in Kingsmouth for freakin' ever and I got bored of killing zombies with no end in sight. The animations and combat are still really clunky, which probably doesn't help. The story is OK, but not as great as some people like to rave about. Story alone isn't enough to keep me playing, though.
Ny experience exactly....My funniest experience was I was in the middle of a quest and had a major emergency and had to leave while in the middle of the quest...When I got back two hours later, I had beaten the quest without even playing....I had such high hopes for the game but it always felt really small and instanced....I was looking for a world and it just never had that feel.

You have to admit that it gives off a bit of an odd signal when you say the story isn't that great and on the other you suggest that you did not get past the beginner zone.
That combat man!
Same as for their previous Age of Conan title, the slight delay and lack of impact effects or/and sound effects make it a pass for me. Used to be a fan of their original ideas and scenario game concepts, but that's pretty much it when it comes to Funcom games.
I thought Funcom's best game was Anarchy Online...It had such great depth and character development that when it came time for them to release other games I had higher expectations... I didnt like a single one since.
I for one am enjoying this game again. In TSW when I got to Tokyo, I really hated the AEGIS system and promptly quit soon after. Started up SWL and just finished the story in South Africa and really enjoyed it. It is definitely a fresh change to play a modern MMO instead of the usual high fantasy game. I like the game for what it is.
For all its faults SWL is a good MMO, I feel that being set in the modern world and having a horror theme are its main problems. Those two design choices do not seem popular with MMO players, and think it over as much as I can I am not sure why.
It does seem that fantasy is king, possible people don't feel a modern setting is different enough for their avatar? You can visit London or buy a pair of trainers in the real world, is that really special online?
But the storytelling quests were some of the best I have seen, the overarching storyline was very solid. A shame it has not done much better than this.

I'm an author and avid reader--the story has to hook a player or reader from the very get-go or it's rubbish. SW/SWL is just "ok". There were a few interesting bits, but hardly anything spectacular or even that interesting, given the genre. Even if it WERE a 5-star story, the clunky combat, poor animations and optimization, and endlessness of Kingsmouth would still kill it for me.
I agree with most of what you said.
But still this is the beginner zone where the story slowly begins so it seems unfair to make a judgement based on the first few pages of a book.
However, the clunky combat is something that made many people quit and not something I would ever argue about.

The whole I couldn't get past zombies makes me wonder if this person made it past the police department. There are allot more mobs than just zombies. And the best thing is the missions aren't linear.
Where one quest leads you doesn't mean you have to take go back and get the rest of even take the quests where you ended up. You can walk off in another direction and get missions. Only the Story is linear the first play thru.
And the fact the the person states they are an author and an avid reader means nothing. Everyone likes a story for there own reasons and writing a book or reading lots of books is not a requirement to like a story. Hey, you only read 10 books...you're not qualified to like or comment on a story...lol.
I think this is a case of game review done in 10 minutes of game play.
And yes the combat was a big factor in the game not being received well.
Bill, I've tried this MMO several times before Legends and it failed for me then but for the first time I am truly enjoying it! I can now see why you've liked it all along. I loved AOC. I hope FUNCOM does well and stays in business!
