Tibia is a really old game, and one I knew about but always avoided because of the bots. However every server has battleeye protection so no botting or other cheat programs allowed.
I've been playing about a week, so not too long and haven't played too much. Spent a lot of time checking out different servers, and trying out the 4 classes (though classes can't really see how one likes till later lol). I tried sorcerer first, but then got out of the tutorial area and the city was invaded by zombies or infected or whatever. Lost all my items trying to get my wand back, and then went from level 8 to 5 and so I quit sorcerer rofl. You lose exp when you die and can go backwards when leveling, drop items too. I read on the reddit forums that mages are better if you have a different character that can supply them, or have a bunch of money to spare.
Tried knight after, and he could tank those infected/zombies without any issues at all but it was kinda boring. Never been a fan of tank classes anyway...more a mage person (ranged is ok too), but wow is sorcerer hard in Tibia. So I tried paladin next, and its perfect...I do love the ranged aspect, but he isn't so weak he dies to infected and can actually tank as good as knight can (probably cause the armor you start with with the knight after leaving the tutorial I gave to my paladin :P)
Found server I like a lot (Noctera), not too crowded but still has people and very friendly for most part. I was on antica at first cause it was most popular...but its worse community I've ever seen in an MMO. Tried another server before Noctera, but everyone was rude and weird. Made another knight on Noctera, got to level 8, made paladin and gave it knight armor. Also the community on Noctera is night/day difference compared to Antica lol.
But all that process took up most of my time in Tibia the past week or so :P
Realized free accounts too limiting...can't use marketplace (which is a HUGE source of income, can sell stuff for a lot of gold, and also buy good weapons/armor for the cheap)...and can't use boats (boats are like flightpaths in WoW, but you just "teleport" to the place) and can't really do much. But since I was (and am) enjoying Tibia quite a lot I spent the 10.55 USD for 30 days of premium.
I dunno how involved crafting is, but on my paladin I harvested wheat...used a grain mill to make flour...used buckets of water to fill a trough...made dough out of the flour...made lots of bread lol. But flour sells for more than bread for some reason. But it reminded me of how its done in Runescape sorta. Pretty involved though to make bread. Can make cake dough too, but its milk in troughs instead of water.
Then put a bid on a house, and gotta wait 7 days to see if I get it.
As for cash shop. Its as pay to win as WoW tokens are. You can buy tibia coins with real cash and then sell them on marketplace. Then buy a bunch of crap and use it. Not different what so ever than WoW tokens. In fact, their cash shops (tibia and WoW) are pretty similar. Can buy cosmetic mounts in tibia. and some differences like exp boosts, cosmetic armor (though can find cosmetic armor in-game) and some other stuff...
Nothing that would make one win the game with the cash shop. Unless you think WoW is pay to win cause of selling the WoW tokens, then fair enough lol. Way worse, and actually bad cash shops out there. Tibia is pretty light on the cash shop side of things.
And its "free to play", but too limiting...its more like a trial...its really pay to play like it was (and is pretty much) a long time ago.

For server types, Noctera is open pvp. From what I read, in tibia open pvp is more like a normal server than anything else since a lot of penalties for PvP or something. Tbh, I don't really know.
Then there is hardcore pvp servers which are obviously the least populated servers in the game, but they are how PvP used to work in Tibia a long time ago.
And then optional PvP servers, which means no pvp at all unless you choose to it. These aren't very popular, not very many of them, and I didn't find any optional PvP server I personally liked. And the open pvp ones are more pve focused anyway.

But then I did something dumb
I forgot I had rope in my backpack I put in storage (had an extra one that was just using up weight)...
went into a cave
surprise no rope.
Had to get my alt to bring rope to my guy lol.
Having no rope is really really bad in tibia if you go cave diving...you can get so screwed if you forget it lol.
But then I bought a magic rope spell so I don't need to carry rope (which are pretty heavy) and never need to worry about it again :P I bought a light spell too so don't have to worry about torches.

But as far as Tibia...I went to bid on a house and a bot kept outbidding me in less than a second. Its not possible for any person (especially if its the same character outbidding you each time) to outbid you in less than a second.
Not only do you have to put in the bid amount. You have to then put in your password (which is a separate page to load after you put in the bid). I kept putting in my bid, and the bot would outbid me as soon as I put in the bid. Not possible at all except for a bot to do that, since it asks you for your password each time.
All this on the main website btw. Not in-game.
Completely ruined the entire Tibia experience. Terrible house auction system since it can be botted that easily. That means you can NEVER get the good houses because bots will win them each and every single time.

Turns out, the house bidding doesn't show what the actual bid is. You have to keep "guessing" the number until you outbid the person. So the person can show 450,000 gold as an example, but if I only bid 400,000 then it'll still show only that the person is one gold over my bid (even though it isn't).
Kinda lame system, and I don't like that it isn't in the game like every other MMO. And you can't even see the persons bid.
The rest of the game is fun though, and I ended up getting the fishing house in the dwarf city. Not the biggest house by any means, but its a really neat spot.
