I think "gaming" the system is what is commonly known as cheating, hopefully that's not the main thing posters take from this thread. It may not be forbidden, but doing good posts generates points. And somehow I think good posts may be what the forums are about.
Pretty sure the way the system works once you get around 3 or 4 k post you're going to be purple regardless of the quality of posts.
Which seems to me why one poster said something about agrees to lol ratio or something like that being a better indicator or quality.
Personally I don't think it means diddly or denote anything about quality whether good or bad..
As LOLs can be given as punitive or for genuinely being funny (something I often try to do) I think @Slapshot1188 was correct, insightful are probably better indicators of overall post quality and I would add in awesomes as well.
Ugh, turning into a Monday morning math exercise. ((Insightful^2 + awesome^3) / (SQRT LOL x inverse of Agree)) x 3.14

You know that if a game demands you use an excel spreadsheet its a little like full time employment, right?
I think "gaming" the system is what is commonly known as cheating, hopefully that's not the main thing posters take from this thread. It may not be forbidden, but doing good posts generates points. And somehow I think good posts may be what the forums are about.
No.
We're gamers. We allow the devs, GMs, or in this case forums admins, to make decision on what the rules of the game are. But after GMs have made their decisions on what is allowed and what is not, it's in the spirit of being a gamer to optimize the hell out of that system.
But I'm not actually planning to go into reaction trading. I just tried 20 because I wanted to see if it could be done. Then I got somehow caught up in this topic.

That means his full time employment is a little like his favourite game?

You do realise we are now having a MMO argument about the gameplay of a forum?
I will give insightfuls to anyone that gives me some...lolz
It looks like 1 lol gives you 1 point more. Giving 20 lols took something between 2-3 minutes, so raising you to Legendary would require between 3-5 hours of time.
I sense an opportunity for Chinese power-lolling service.
Every reaction seems to be worth the same (1 point). I couldn't test on what a Promote -reaction would be worth.
It looks like quoting you isn't worth of any points.
Oh wow you actually came and gave me 20 lols
Hmm I might be real busy tomorrow, when I get up, handing out returns!
I am at 1073 points as of this post.
EDIT: Just gave you 20 insightfuls Vrika
Maybe it would be better to ask
@MikeB is trading reactions or similar activity forbidden? I wouldn't want to get accidentally banned for doing something like this.

I click reaction buttons like a madman. I like letting people know I've read their post. I've been trying to post less and click more. I rarely WTF people.
I do that too sometimes. Specifically if I find a point that seems to be lost in the shuffle of a trolling argument or a battle between white knights and haters.

Wait...so if I agree with something you said just after you agreed with me I am breaking forum rules?
If so how long must I wait before I am allowed to agree back with you so it doesn't count as reaction trading?

Aye I often do this, I even use reactions in threads I am not interested in engaging in to show that I agree with such n such opinion etc
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I took that as he's referring to gaming the system, not the speed at which you respond back.
Right but how to gauge or decide that so and so is "gaming" the system other than looking at who you give reactions too and if they give you some back?
I mean how can a mod say or you're gaming the system rather than just agreeing with someone about something etc
Crystal ball?
I mean other than posting or making threads asking for reactions and saying you'll give some back it's pretty hard to be able to police that kind of thing which is why most forums with a "reputation system" has a limit on how much you can give out per day/week etc.
For example in the Elite Dangerous forums you can rep posters, which makes their "green bar bigger" but you can only rep them once per so much time or somesuch, not quite sure what the mechanics are tbh.
Say I was in those forum and repped you Torval for some such comment you made I would then be unable for quite a few days to rep you again and would get a "you must spread more reputation around before you can rep Torval again" message.

Okay, but that's an entirely different question. I'm not a mod. I wouldn't know or care since I have no plans on trying to game the system. As is it means anything other than "fun" anyway.
I wasn't asking you the question but since you interjected yourself to kind of reply I was just explaining to you what I meant by my previous post.
I understand he was talking about gaming the system but how can he accurately gauge such a thing....I don't think it really possible unless someone is really obvious about it like I was a few posts ago though that was said in jest more than anything else.....

That's what made EVE Fun, the fact that you needed to do that. My operation in 2007-2008 was 1 billion isk per week operation but very easy. I was in some region where the mobs gave you crystals or something to refine. So i'd buy all the mats on buy orders at like 50-75% the cost and then pay a corp mate to ship it up to Jita and hand it over to my other guy.
I didn't keep an excel sheet because i didn't care to maximize my profit given my margin was so bloody high. I ended up quitting the game and giving away most of my billions and sold the account I had for $400.

I had thought of using a tint to make my blackish blue leather armour look purple. But not sure Faramir or indeed Tolkien would approve of the lore change.
