Ironic, eh? We, LONG BEFORE I even joined MMORPG in 2009, started covering more than what could be considered "traditional" MMORPGs. We now consider ourselves a place where we can focus on MMOs, RPGs, and every mix-and-match you can think of between the two.
While I see his point about some of the sites he mentions, I know a great deal of the people who run them - his sounds like a case of sour grapes, or high-horsemanship, and either way he's off his rocker.
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.
He says that the sites need to either have MMORPG news or shut down.
I for one am glad that this site isn't taking him serious, I would rather have one stop shopping myself rather than having to go to several different sites for non MMO news. Hell I rarely even play mmos anymore and I still love this site.
- his sounds like a case of sour grapes, or high-horsemanship, and either way he's off his rocker.
He sounds like a petulant little child who isn't getting his way, is bitter because the world is unfair and not everything can be added up into nice little columns and he should be spanked soundly and sent to his room.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Duh. Of course sites/videos/youtube channels/twitch etc are all about getting views
How else are you going to make money, earn a living and have a good community (either on a website like MMORPG.com or even a youtube channel) without views lol
My Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starbound and WoW + other game mods at MODDB:
- his sounds like a case of sour grapes, or high-horsemanship, and either way he's off his rocker.
He sounds like a petulant little child who isn't getting his way, is bitter because the world is unfair and not everything can be added up into nice little columns and he should be spanked soundly and sent to his room.
And one step further ...
The world isn't all neat and tidy and not everything stays the same over time.
Like the newspaper industry Or the music Industry .. or the movie industry
or the Taxi industry -don't think for one minute that every time I take a taxi I don't hear about how bad Uber is evil ... and yet I've gotten better service through Uber than most (not all) taxi rides/taxi calls I've had over my life.
I'm sure large book stores over the the US are gnashing their teeth - oh wait, most aren't around anymore.
But let's cry over Video game sites trying to stay in business by adding additional content that people might actually be interested in.
Looked up my Grandmother and her 1930's census form listed a job for a machine that no longer exists. I bet those people were pretty pissed as well.
Hate this guy and his pop radio voice.
And another thing, there are too many states. Please eliminate three. P.S. I'm not a kook.

So many missed points or points with one way biased but not telling the whole story. Do i need to state my opinion,i think most know what i have been saying a long time.
I really don't need anyone to tell me anything,i pay attention to what goes on in the world in general not just gaming. It might be said i am almost obsessed with finding out the darker side of businesses and how they like to mislead consumers.
Without pointing any fingers, how can i create an analogy...hmmm
Well it is similar to when something like a CHARITY gets posted.I actually brought this up and an intelligent co worker sort of disagreed with me but again looked at only ONE cause/reason and not the entire picture.
His argument was that SO WHAT,if charities are only in it for themselves,to pay themselves huge salaries/bonuses,nobody else is going to do it so if you want people to do charity work, they want to get paid.
My argument was not about if people DESERVE to get paid it is more about the DECEPTION and misleading agenda. When someone uses the term CHARITY you know darn well what that implies and NO other argument comes in to play because anything other than CHARITY is just misleading.
So to go full circle on the topic,NOBODY is saying employees don't work hard, that is again a misleading argument,NOBODY is saying a business shouldn't make money,NOBODY is saying a business can't expand,it is HOW you do it and how you try to mislead the content and products of that business. That is why i used the charity analogy.Nobody is saying charity work is bad, nobody is saying the result is bad,it is how you perceive to operate your business and how you want the public to perceive it. I mean you can TWIST anything around to be positive,a thief steals TV's to give to the poor,if you awant to just say ,a good samaritan is aiding the poor,it sounds great but if you tell the entire story it does not.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I find people are always quick to call 'LIE!' about games, sites, .... everything. I find that 9 times out of 10, that the cause if failure to read everything, lack of comprehension, or just plain obtuseness. I should say 6 out of 10. 2 out of 10 is ppl just trying to cause trouble.
The topic goes well beyond the SIMPLE topic of using the term MMO.It also gets into RPG and it also gets into the WHY certain content arrives on scene. There is an extremely fine line between NEWS and partnered content, they are NOT the same. Also going past the simple three letters MMO is the fact websites simply pick a name for their site they feel will generate clicks/money. The fact that websites are being misleading in ANY fashion should not surprise one single person, just like gaming it is business FIRST and the hobby second ,perhaps even a distant second.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Having a header that says "All MMO Games" over a list that includes Diablo 3, DOTA 2, and Heathstone is very deceptive.
Like I said. It's fine to adapt. Just be honest about it.
That's assuming everyone here is a noob to gaming in general, if you feel you are somehow being tricked or lied to, then maybe you should not visit the site lol. To be honest I've gotten used to the article flow here when it comes to other types of games and I don't mind it. I can get most gaming news from only a few places, instead of 20. I think they have been pretty upfront in what they do, at least they are willing to talk about it, unlike some sites that dump the news and run. As for the header, easy fix.
Anyone else get the feeling he drank waaay too much caffeine before making that video. I don't understand why he can't just go to MMO sites to just look up news about the MMO's and ignore everything else.
"You have no backbone MMO bomb, anyone who works for MMO bomb and yes I applied before" 4:45
Wtf? that one line explains it all. He applied and was rejected. He probably applied to all the sites he's now "attacking".
I'm kind of embarrassed that he thinks so highly of RotMG and I luv that game.
All that being said though I prefer gaming sites covering all types of games even if they aren't MMO if it means they can continue. I can't count on ten hands the games I would've never even heard about that weren't MMO's if it wasn't for this site.
Do some games that are MMO's get less coverage that deserve more? sure, I can name a few, but that happens in almost every other industry as well.
What this site could do and this is just suggestion not even meant to be taken seriously is create a section for classic MMO's by definition to appease the people like him. He said RotMG was a good example of a MMORPG in his own words so he has no problem with a Marvel Heroes type hub game with instanced zones, overpriced cash shop, permadeath etc. He said NWN isn't an MMO but NWN has more zones than RotMG and more progression which by classic definition is more MMO. RotMG is more arpg which makes me think his whole video was just a promo for RotMG that he got paid to do and all the other madness at the beginning was just bait to get everyone to watch.
I see the point that he's trying to make. But, as pointed out, I also understand that MMO news can be slow and hard to provide constant material.
But he does have a good point that there are certainly lesser known MMO's that could use love. And I would definitely like to see them get more attention.

We have a newstip address for those you think you'd like to see. We can't promise to cover all, but we'll do our best. news@mmorpg.com
I noticed that too, and with that in mind, I can't argue that the list says "MMO List" but I'd argue it's just as misleading for someone to say the game is an MMO when on the "MMO List" it's clearly defined as an Action RPG.
Oh yeah. It's a totally ridiculous argument, but it's one that gets made a surprising amount. Over nauriseldon's campaign to redefine MMOs you had like 20-30% of the people posting pushing to have prettymuch any multiplayer game ever defined as an MMO, and that header was one of the primary pillars of their case.
This was definitely true as I remember many threads devolving into that. One of the main arguments was that journalists were including them, so they must be MMOs.
I appreciate the gang's willingness to chime in and clarify. That's one of the things I like about the staff here- they are willing to engage us honestly and openly about these things.
I'm in the "don't care what you cover so long as it's not misleading."
Oh yeah, and the guy in the video seems like a douche.
Interesting video where Skylent proves that mmo sites now promote almost any type of game for clicks.
Quote from the video description,
"MMObyte, you can do better. MMOs.com I KNOW you have the passion in you somehwere. All the rest are probably worthless causes, but I think we can make a change that could ripple out and do a lot of good.
This is my rant, a bit of drama, and the current MMO press landscape. I clearly show, that MMO sites are lying to you, clickbaiting for money."
But click-baiting to appease your ego is OK I take it?
I wouldn't say it's really MMO sites that lie about games I mean look at what the MMO game companies do themselves after luring consumers into their product I've seen it quite a few times before.
Trion Worlds - Advertise its game as an MMORPG, with No Tricks No Traps, but in reality, you really have to pay a subscription to enjoy even enjoy the game, and Arche Age was one of the worst disasters done by the company because you pretty much had to pay for everything and in the end it was ruined.
Sandbox Interactive, Game advertise as a Sandbox MMORPG, but under its EULA may ban players just for trading under 4.5.1 this has never been done in any Sandbox game before because trading is part of the MMORPG & sandbox genre advertising itself as a sandbox isn't right.
Even Star Citizen, I don't remember where the entire list is, but I believe they even removed content from the game that was promised from the original Kickstarter or made changes not to say it will be a bad game because I don't know yet.
The word MMO, simply means (Massively Multiplayer Online) so in reality World OF Warships, Dauntless, Skyforge Heroes OF The Storm, League OF Legends, DOTA 2, could be considered Massively Multiplayer because there are over 1000 players playing the game, however, MMORPG is different which advertise the game as a (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) would mean something like Dragons and Dungeons, or Elder Scrolls Online.
I think (Sub Genres) need to be more organized in sites like MMORPG, MMO Games, and even Massively Overpowered though to sort games by types for example.
MMORPG
Elder Scrolls Online Dungeons & Dragons
MMO-TCG (Generally any game like HOTS that has over 1000+ Players and takes less than 10 seconds to find a match
Example, HOTS, Shadowverse, Magic The Gathering
MMO - Sandbox (Any game that allows freely trading to other players, and allows free progression of character / game-play, but doesn't contain quests, Can't think of any like this at the moment.
Rust
MMORPG - Sandbox Online, (Any game that is a full sandbox with free trading, but also has questing and playing as a character/role.)
Life is Feudal MMORPG has a few quests.
MMO-FPS (Any game that has an FPS aspect and over 1000 active players at a given time, but doesn't have quests or a story line.
MMORPG - FPS (anything that has Questing / Story Line.)
Warframe, because it has a storyline that is really great.
MMO - MOBA
League OF Legends Smite DOTA 2
And yeah in my eyes "World OF Warships" is a good game, although what ruins the experience is 3rd party add-on's that are allowed by the developers of the game in my eyes are cheating, when people can use add-on to make their life easier such as be able to detect how fast a ship is moving, or if it's moving backward vs players who don't use them shouldn't be allowed so I uninstalled the game when I found out about this after spending about $300 in the game in total I think not playing it until that is no longer allowed. I do consider (WOT & WOWS) an MMO, just under a sub genre like a MOBA, because in reality, it's just a MOBA of being matched with X amonut of players then fighting.
Someone should take that streamer to a TGI Friday on a Wednesday... it'll blow his fucking mind.

I never even realised the banner was there that said MMORPG.
