Apple makes world class products that creatives such as myself and many others use to create graphics, music, and more. They simply don't make "gaming" machines.
You're correct. But too many people buy an Apple product, then they think they can use any software they want, and play any game they want. And when they find out they can't, they start crying all over the internet.
People will now finally realize: Apple is NOT for gaming.
If you actually own a Mac, like I do, then you know it's not true.
I can create two partitions (ore more) and run both Native Windows 10 and MacOS on my MacBook Pro and can literally do everything I want!
All creativity software I run on MacOS and for my gaming needs, I boot up in Windows 10 when I am traveling.
At home I have a PC, Xbox One X, PS4 and Switch for all my gaming needs when at home.
Its not that you can't run games on a mac, you can, but only the really high end ones, but a high end mac and a high end gaming pc are not the same thing. I can understand why they have dropped mac support though, i would imagine its due to the fact that while iphones/ipads are very popular devices, mac pc's aren't, i would suspect its more a case of supply and demand rather than one of power, or lack of it, although i would imagine thats also a contributing factor.
I had a mac because I wanted to see if it was worth compared to my high end gaming system. Sadly it's a waste since I can do everything on my pc compared to a mac but with more freedom. My gf got a mac before I met her. The rig was great but sadly what did I need to install on it. Windows lol. Mac is useless. It's just another hardware that's gold plated and is viewed to be a useful item. In the end pc users will always have the user hand. When Mac comes out with a gaming system compatible to handles other games that isn't Mac fri3ndly then I might get it. Until then it's just a useless tech.
So you bought a $2k - $3k machine "just to see" how it compared? I call BS.
It's because Apple dumped OpenGL and now exclusively uses Metal. The next OS will not be released for non-metal capable machines. It's the same reason a lot of Mac users won't be continuing on with WoW come the next expansion. Metal.
WTF??? WoW has been using Metal on OSX/macOS since 2016.
For someone who claims to be in the "know"... Metal and OpenGL are dual supported at the moment. The next OS will not support OpenGL at all. Which is why it will only be released to Metal capable machines moving forward. Many games out there that were written for the Mac are based on OpenGL, not Metal. WoW currently forces Metal capable machines to use only Metal but those machines that can't run Metal are using OpenGL. Come BfA, there will be no more OpenGL support and it will only run Metal.
I don't even use Macs for creative work anymore. Makes 0 sense. Apple put itself on an island and prefers to pander to slobbering hype beasts in the smartphone/wearable space. The whole mac/creative dynamic died for straight up creatives YEARS ago. The negatives outweigh the positives.
If you seriously game on a Mac and have a choice to do otherwise you're an idiot and it's really not up for debate. I'm sorry (not sorry).
P.S. The only creatives still latching on to Apple do so because:
They're stuck in a silly Mac ecosystem at work
Are out of touch hipster weenies who need wood tables + gourmet coffee + kale smoothies + a mac book to feel creative
Don't know any better or are intimidated by Windows OS and having to be a responsible adult with their tools.
Because gaming is serious bizness... ROFL. What an argument. Flawed on so many levels.
First of all. Mac is a choice. Just like smoking weed is a choice. You have your windows, BSODs, defragmentation routines, antivirus, firewall, driver and hardware support fiascos. You think because you have to work harder to use your system, that somehow it makes you more intelligent.
Using your argument Playstation is the best console in the world because it has the most market saturation. Xbox and Nintendo and any other player out there is pure garbage because they can never overtake Playstation's hold no matter how good their stuff may be.
Your argument would have concluded that VHS was the greatest video platform of all time because Beta had only a small fraction of the market. Even though it was widely known that Beta was vastly superior on so many levels.
I've used PCs (from DOS to Windows 7), I've used UNIX boxes (SunOS, IRIX), and I've run Macs (since the first release of Mac OSX). I know the pros and cons of each. I also know what I prefer so that is what I use. I'm not ignorant to the other platforms as you apparently are. You have probably never used anything but windows your entire life and probably only the easy version of it that came with it's own GUI. DOS days was command line driven... not point and click.
Don't bash another eco system because you don't use it. It only shows that you fear the unknown. No one ever said Macs were gaming rigs nor did they use Macs solely for gaming.
Because gaming isn't serious bizness... just like smoking weed isn't serious bizness.
A majority of development is on the web and a majority of that is done on Apple. It's a POSIX core with a really nice user experience. Some of that dev ecosystem is only available on OSX and Linux. Although, WSL on Win10 with Ubuntu or one of the other compatible distros is a thing now.
Some of you read too much Facebook and Reddit.
While that may be true, this article concerns itself with private users gaming with Macs. Until Apple decides to loosen the fuck up on their ecosystems, you have to do shit like run multiple partitions to mimic Windows just to enjoy the full gamut of titles Windows users have been enjoying for decades without jumping through shitty hoops.
It's a shit situation for private consumers, but Apple has always been that way.

That has nothing to do with the comments I was responding to that Apple is no longer a content creation platform. It is. It's one of the most popular development platforms right now because it's a better user experience than Linux distros with its own powerful POSIX core.
Windows users have to deal with those same issues when trying to get non-native or ported apps to work right. Although, WSL (windows subsystem for linux) is changing how things work.
If getting stuff to work on one box is too much for people then people can buy a dedicated box for both Windows and OSX. I know people who do that, but most Apple gamers I know play on xbox or PS4 and don't dual boot anymore.
It sucks that Frontier won't update their client to support Metal. It's not like this API transition is a surprise. It's been a thing since the game launched. I guess there aren't enough Mac users for them to make it worth their while. It's not the first time this company has dropped promised features. The game was supposed to work offline in single player mode. That was a crowd-funding feature they failed to deliver on and were never held to task for.
While true, I was trying to relate this back to the topic of the thread, which has little to do with the other uses of Apple products.
There may still be some apps that have compatibility issues with Windows, but they don't have to worry, because the number of apps that need to be ported or are non-native aren't holding Windows users back in that area like Mac is holding gamers back here.
If Mac users want to blame someone, blame Apple for not working harder to make compatibility issues for their gamers easier to overcome with Apple-supported applications. Again, this isn't an isolated issue; you look elsewhere in Apple's stable of products, you'll find a common theme of attempting to isolate their users from all other products as much as they think their users will stomach. It's the reason I dropped my iPhone for, well, any other brand of smartphones, really.
EDIT- To further illustrate the point, you said yourself there likely aren't enough Mac gamers to make it worth their while. If Apple wants that to change, they need to face the underlying reasons behind that and address them for their users.

Those "machines" that can't run Metal are 2011 and earlier. Most of those machines don't meet the system requirements for WoW, let alone Metal. Buy a new computer, FFS.
All 2012 and later models support Metal, even the MacBook Air and the Mac mini.

I actively use Windows and Apple hardware seamlessly on an Agency/Enterprise level. I've been using Apple computers since the beige Power Macs. This is before Apple got too cocky and moved to their island and inhabited it with lemmings.
The only place you're close to being correct is saying Apple is a choice. That choice is an aesthetic/trendy one in 2018. That is due to self-inflicted wounds by Apple. Apples hardware division USED to be powered by the creative community, thus creative software was exclusively targeted there. That's how they justified the pricing, it was industry standard. Those days are gone (Thank GOD). So what is an Apple Computer truly for now? They're only getting more introverted from the industry. They're probably going to start giving out white sneakers and cyanide with their next hardware release. The only folks I can give any excuse/pass to is the audio industry.
I'm not dissing the OS, we're not talking about smartphones here. I'm dissing the dummies who are in control of the OS and the hardware that's running it. When it comes down to performance and flexibility there is no comparison.
Beyond the above, no personalcomputer gamer of sound mind and reason is going to look at a PC & Mac for gaming and say "Yeah, I think I'm going to go with this Mac to play [insert game]. I'll get the best experience plus it's easy to upgrade". Not even a reckless individual with disposable income makes that error.

Wow, why so angry? What business is it of yours which operating system someone uses to play games? Finally came to the realization that you spent a lot of time and money to build a "gaming rig" you thought people would marvel over and the truth is most people don't care what you choose to play games on? Can't stand the fact that other gamers can thoroughly enjoy the same game on a non-Windows laptop that they use for a lot of other purposes as well? Guess what, some of us finally woke up and realized we don't need all the Windows bells and whistles. We use what we like.
You sound more like someone who was burned in some way by Apple and this is your way of "taking it out" on them. What a sad little person you are.

As far as hardware goes, you can get hardware that is plenty powerful for gaming on a Mac, or you can get hardware that will really struggle with games. Just like on Windows. The difference is that the Mac costs twice as much. As internal hardware goes, the cheaper iMacs are basically a budget laptop in a different form factor. But the iMac Pro for $5000 comes with a Sky Lake-X CPU and a Vega 56 GPU and will offer performance comparable to a $1500 Windows gaming rig, at least if your software will run on it.

Lol anyone ever tried running vr on Mac compared to pc. My point exactly mac is trash and pos. Pc is used for everything if you can't handle it get the 36#^#^=_÷_= out. Mac just can't do it.

This generalization just isn't true, by the way; an entry level desktop Mac is about the same as what you would get for a PC at the same price point: I have done the comparisons.
I haven't looked as closely at laptops, but you really should support your claim.

I'm not dissing the OS, we're not talking about smartphones here. I'm dissing the dummies who are in control of the OS and the hardware that's running it. When it comes down to performance and flexibility there is no comparison.
Beyond the above, no personal computer gamer of sound mind and reason is going to look at a PC & Mac for gaming and say "Yeah, I think I'm going to go with this Mac to play [insert game]. I'll get the best experience plus it's easy to upgrade". Not even a reckless individual with disposable income makes that error.

TL;DR
If you wish to game on a personal computer and you willfully pick an Apple Computer you're flat out uneducated.
If your reason for having an Apple computer in the first place is "the creative field" your reason died several years ago. Wake the f#$% up, unless you know... wood tables, gourmet coffee, kale smoothies, form over function etc.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You sound more like someone who was burned in some way by Apple and this is your way of "taking it out" on them. What a sad little person you are.
