Not every franchise needs or should jump on a bandwagon.
I'm not saying that any franchise needs to jump on a bandwagon. I'm also not saying that every bandwagon will be good to jump on.
As I indicated above, putting something like this in a game that is years from being released will end up yielding a game that is out of date as it is a current fad.
Like I said, I could envision a game that has battlegrounds like Elder Scrolls Online but then the rest of the world is the old school game. I'm not saying it's a good idea or that it might be successful or not.
But I can understand it.
Also, look at the cancelled Everquest 3. I'm very sure that there was a contingent of Everquest players who were horrified when they first saw it. Yet, that wasn't stopping Sony from doing it.
Just like there were players who were Horrified with Everquest 2 when they saw it.

Good. I was hoping it was something along these lines (not the trolling of news sites but the games not existing in that form).
There was absolutely no way that they were going to release an EQ with BR features, or change up Planetside to have those as well. That would have been insane.
Who knows? It seems to me Daybreak will simply 'milk' more of SoE's work, for what it's worth -- that seems to be more in accord with their modus operandi, and will probably take the path of least resistance, wherever that leads.
Whenever the chance of closure is out there sales for games take a big hit. No one wants to invest more money in a game that won't be around much longer. Would not doubt if they lost 50% of their players across all games last week + cancelled subs/not buying credits etc.
Where's the proof? History for this company has shown that all they do is keep their games in a half dead state for long periods of time never improving them just letting them rot. Maybe what the ex employee forgot to mention is that they'll be mobile games. With their limited staff I can see that as a possibility.
"EverQuest 3 is said to have been in development for a year and is being built from the ground up with an emphasis on battle royale. It is said to be prepping to compete with Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen"
can tell he's trolling us right from that one. I think it's evident.
Then they can't call it EverQuest 3. People will expect a new RPG MMO then, not a Battle Royale game.
Call it "Battle for Norrath" or "Norrath: Battle Royale" or something....hell "EverQuest: Battle Royale".
Anything but EverQuest 3.
Well, now wait a minute ...
Besides the fact that this is an unsubstantiated rumor from someone who "claims" they were an employee (I can easily see some gamer just saying this "shit" because they think it's funny) one can easily see an Everquest game that incorporates some sort of battle royale feature between the factions. Sort of like Cyrodiil in Elder Scrolls Online but "battle royale".
That doesn't eliminate the idea that a full blown MMORPG is also part of that mix.
Though, if this is true it just feels like jumping on the bandwagon and not in time because "Battle Royale" is so "now" and not a few years from now when an mmorpg could even be released.
I agree with JeroKane. If you are going to call something a part 3 then it needs to follow the other games as an RPG. I know all of this is just hot air because daybreak is most likely going to disappear in a couple months from now which will kill off a lot of major IP's unless they are sold. A battle royal is in no way shape or form an RPG, it is a pvp centered lobby game at best.
Yeah but this is neither here nor there simply because the IP belongs to someone else.
If they want to create an rpg and incorporate a themed tetris type game as part of it, they will.
Just becuase players think it should be x, y and z doesn't mean it will be.
Like all the Elder Scrolls players who say Elder Scrolls online isn't an Elder Scrolls game. Well, it is whether people like it or not.
Are...are you talking about Gems or was this a sarcastic comment that backfired?

I don't know what GEMS is sorry. Was making a pont that developers will do what they will do, it's their games and their games to do with as they wish.
So if players want one thing but the developers want to Make Dragon Age Inquisition or EverQuest 3 with that particular Art style or an Elder Scrolls online game that initial seemed like it had more to do with Dark Age of Camelot, or any number of things they do, they will do it.
That should have been apparent but, well, you know "forums".

Maybe it's a fantasy setting battyle royale with npc's and more rpg elements. They could have it where you kill creatures to earn resources then trade resources to npc's for weapons you want. Earning weapons could remove the randomness of weapons in current BR which is something I never really cared for. Bows, crossbows, swords, axes, maces etc could all be fun to try out in a BR game.
In Fortnite you need to farm materials to build things and it's already more popular than PUBG so who knows maybe we're just at the start of where BR will go. It could also just be a EQ re-skin of H1Z1.
Seeing that the one game that was making them a load of money from little effort H1Z1 was not catered to at all i would say there is no way they are putting any effort into a fully fledged EQ3 game.
For one one thing it would be illegal to make such claims so more likely an inside pr move to make it sound like the studio is fast forward in wake of recent news. Like H1Z1 was making a lot of money, way more than Smedley or anyone expected and after a full year they did literally NOTHING to the game,no more than what looked like 2 people and maybe a month tops. Now that they have so few employees left,i would say no way in hell.If anything they will take the EQ2 engine/game and just add an expansion pack and call it EQ3.What was EQ3 anyhow,EQ2 +storybricks +parkour and not much more.So then no storybricks and now the one man team behind the player studio works is gone so no more player made assets.
This dbg might still see some money from a few games but imo this business is going one way ...down. Think about the beginning,Smedley LOVED this business,he loved the EQ franchise,so why would he sell it off? Then gets quickly ousted,he sold it because it was a failing business so then why would dbg buy it ...yep nothing looks legit.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I guess i should make note that the PS3 team was apparently not touched.I have no idea if the game makes any money or what that actually means.Like it could be the exact same people working on all the games and the team was so small that yeah not touched because those same 2-3 people were also working on other games and still needed.Basicaly meaning ,they are not still employed because of PS3 but more so because they are important employees needed by DBG that work on several games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Even if it wasn't a troll post, and EQ3 was something they were working on, Pantheon is much more a successor to EQ than anything Daybreak could dream of putting together.
Also, the whole EQN/Landmark fiasco won't be forgotten.
The more stuff goes around to make it look like Daybreak is still going somewhere, the more i am starting to believe the end is in sight, sounds like things are getting desperate.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
