...how do you "keep polishing" when there isn't anything, not even an alpha (heck, not even a tech demo), to polish yet?  Oo
They have given some tech demos, like I recall a dungeon sequence and a character builder demo, so they are providing some independent and some cooperative tech demo's.

Keep in mind, an Alpha should have all systems working, as such, if they don't have the "Growing and Styling Hair" done, they can't put out an actual alpha, even if they have combat, armor, character creation and genetic lineage, and a dozen other systems working right.

I really think anyone that thought it was going to happen in 2017, really, didn't have a grasp on how huge and complex a project and task it is to make an MMO.. and yes.. that includes JW.

Yeah any of those silly kickstarter backers who thought that Estimated Delivery actually meant a reasonable expectation of delivery.

Two years of marketing, not really a distinction that gamer's would care about,we care about finished games we can play.
I am more certain than i am not that the actual design even if fulfilled will be a very suspect design.

I played a game from Hunted Cow many years ago that encourage pvp/killing,it created a toxic environment that also included offline play which i 100% do not endorse.
One always has to think,ok at least this is not just another clone so deserves some credit. However was the intent to be a more creative game or a design to creative a toxic environment that helps support killing/dying and making money?
I can tell you the intent of every game design, this game has yet to create a definitive direction to what it is trying to achieve.

You are projecting, I'm sure there are tons of gamers who care more about the idea of the game than the actual playable version of the game.

If all gamers cared about was a finished game, kickstarters would never get funded.

Very true, the "best" game is always the one people's heads.

The closer it gets to becoming a reality, the more disillusioned many become as their hopes and dreams are dashed.

I find it hilarious people who think they are special somehow for having backed a KSer, COE is rife with such folks.

It goes so far as "backers" furiously down voting posts of non backers for posting anything that might challenge "the vision."

In reading a thread about this practice, several posters said they had to create new forum accounts once they decided to pledge as their original accounts had been downvoted so severely.

ahh CoE gotta a quick ban hammer when we were burying it. Badge of honor I suppose. But its also funny watching everyone have the cartoon lightbulb snap on over their heads. Also fun to go back and see how everyone was in a circling over this one stimulating each other.

I am surprised there havent been 3 or 4 more best games ever created announced over the past few months, but I guess its still all about last years crop. Which is still being dominated by ashes of creation (another pipe dream IMO).

I'm a sucker for KS projects. This is the one project I passed. Because nothing made sense from their campaign, neither the timeline nor the budget matched their ambition. I still wish them the best of luck, although I'm not sure if luck is even a factor in their equation.

What I mean is even a sucker like I, needs something to grasp on besides the concept. There's a vast difference between an idea and a dream. An idea I can get behind, a dream I cannot.

Yes their vision is beautiful and revolutionary, but they chased it as a dream, so did the people whom did donate. I don't think the pledgers are suckers or stupid. But they invested on a dream. Doesn't necessarily make you a being of a lesser intelligence of any kind, but it does make you way too optimistic. Perhaps that's a good thing by its own, but only if they won't experience shattering disappointment if the team couldn't deliver or live up to their backers' expectancies. Because be sure of one thing, dreams can have different interpretations.

Really how much time was it between the Kickstarter and the "release date" what did they give.. a year maybe (I don't know), but, To build a Huge Ground Breaking MMO, with a bunch of unique and complex systems, more advanced then any before it.. and they were going to do it in a year or two?

From what I have seen of other MMO's, That is around a 5 year project, that would be if they had complete funding (which I wager this game did not get), and top talent (which again, I am not sure if this game has)

Something like CoE, it would be a year from Alpha to putting out a Live game, given how much could in fact go wrong and all the bug squashing involved.

Maybe a year between Alpha and Beta, given how complex this game is designed to be, and then another year from Beta to Live.

Anything less then a 5 year release date, seems a bit unreasonable to me, I watched Eternal Crusade undergo development for 4 years, and that is not even a quarter of what CoE has planned, before it was released, watching it go from a Projected Massive MMO to a being put out as an MOBA with some PvE, that is mainly pointless.

Am I saying that Caspian is not being realistic with his release dates? Yes I am.

In all fairness after the first year Caspian did admit to misjudging the original timeline, but didn't bother to apologize for his vigorous defense of the original one.

He revised the dates in his Cone of Uncertainty Dev Blog at the time, but no idea how well they are tracking to it.

This is what was announced back in July 2017. So far you can maybe check off #1.  That’s in 10 months...

No wipe Exposition is first half of next year.  So roughly a year from now they will have had to go from zero... to a no wipe state.  Now maybe they have secretly built a functional game and just aren’t telling anyone.  As for me... I see no chance of a feature complete launch in 2019.  I doubt even 2020.  They are literally on step 2 of 14 and it took them 10 months.

Looks like they have officially launched the 2 year kickstarter celebration sale. Really gotta love this stretch goal:

    • $400k: EP Kit Limit Increase - You will be able to purchase 2 of each of the Profession, Store Front, and Land Use Exposition Kits from the EP Store (currently limited to 1 per category, per title).

That's right... if we hit the goal you get to buy more stuff!!!   Pretty funny.  You know, MJ was embarrassed (rightfully so) about his delays with CU and to the best of my knowledge never had a single "sale" since they were late until they actually achieve something.

These CoE guys see it as being a badge of honor and something to fund-raise off. Kind of like "Hey we are so ridiculously behind and haven't actually produced anything worthwhile yet, but give us more money to celebrate that!"

I think your all looking at this wrong.

Now I am a fan of the idea of this game but this latest has me concerned.

Now your all talking about how it missed it' deadlines etc.
But your missing the biggest problem with this latest celebration/sale.

Before I explain what it is I have to say, whilst I wasn't 100% happy with the buisiness model I could accept the argument it wasn't p2w because all you can buy could be lost.
    But...

if 350k is raised during this time

$350k: Old Soul - Get a soul that’s one lifetime older as one of the 3 souls from the previous "Soul Pack" reward

Rewards are only given to those with completed packages by the end of May, 2018.

which means anyone who owns a pack will have 1 year advantage over others that can not be lost..
This has upset me no end...

Unless you are part of the elite 10% who struggle to be at the top of every game and in everything going on it it (like @DMKano and his guild do) this really shouldn't be a concern.

Someone, somewhere is always going to have an advantage over you in these games.  I accepted it a long time ago and learned to carve out my own niche in some very competitive games such as EVE.

The way I figure it, I generally wait 6 months to a year post launch.  If I can't join in and still find my own place in the world because everyone who joined early is way "ahead" of me and I'll never be competitive then the game is probably designed wrong and I shouldn't be there.

EVE actually is one of the few games that while it took some significant time (like 2-3 yrs), I felt I could run with the best of them with pretty much only my personal skill (or lack thereof) holding me back.

My only issue is if they are going to sell advantages, they should be available post launch as well as pre, but clearly that won't be happening at this point.

I didn’t miss it.  I just figured we’d beat the timeline drums a bit longer before shifting to the obvious P2W... I was kind of leading there with my post about the $400k stretch goal allowing the purchase of more discounted advantages.

Thanks, this seems at least a year or so too aggressive unless they've progressed a lot further than they are showing.
I would suggest 2 or 3 years too aggressive, but still.

I wonder if they are trying to "manage by delivery date"?  Pull a date out of a hat without regard to the actual amount of work involved, and that's your deadline.  That's always makes for a miserable, stress-filled environment.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I'm not concerned about people being ahead but that those who already have a package will get this but it won't be open to others.

This sort of thing should be available to all packs that are bough before release (sort of like a pre-order reward.

    BTW

    I just restarted on eve.
Started as a new character doing Indy with some FW thrown in.

Didn't Jeromy say a while ago that CoE's projected funding is adequate, as long as backers keep spending at the same rate as they have been since the KS ended ?

Seems like he's just making sure there's a continuous stream of tasty new things for the backers to spend on...

Chris Roberts is probably taking notes, lol
