The very first iteration - before start of crowdfunding - spoke about 2014. This was supposed to be a much smaller and more focussed game. Then the crowdfunding campaign broke all records and 100+ Stretch Goals were added, with explicit and vocal support by a majority of the fans. It was absolutely clear that this much larger game will take longer. Still ... this "2014" is brought up dozens of times every year, out of context and usually for propaganda purposes.
Star Citizen is currently in Alpha. As of today Alpha 3.2 on Live Servers, playable for all backers.

It was the fans that demanded even MORE stretch goals .... CIG had to announce a stop to extra stretch goals.

What feature does not come from a stretch goal ? Procedural generation comes from stretch goal, development of new ships comes from various stretch goals, in game communication comes from stretch goal (the facial rig thing is a unique and new approach to fulfilling such stretch goals) etc.

Given recent voting results in certain countries in real life I find it hard to argue against this point.

So stupid. Real money land ownership is twisted into PvP battles. The propaganda is sickening.

And you do not have to spend real life money. Wait after game has launched and get the land grant in game for in game money only.

You can buy in game money for real money as well. Not P2W though.
In VERY limited amounts. Not enough for any large purchases.
And as I have pointed out many times in the past I personally consider this option basically obsolete from the start as it will be very easy to earn in game money once players understand the trading system ..... which will be the case on day 1 after launch (based on Alpha and Beta testing knowledge),

I don't give a shit what you "consider obsolete." In fact, I don't trust you at all to be an honest actor. You have bullshitted for far to long. In mid December, right before Christmas, you said that you though SQ42 was coming out in June. You emphasized that it was ONLY your opinion. But what an interesting time to make such a stupid and ridiculous claim.
No, when you say that you consider buying in game currency as obsolete, I know for a fact that you not only don't know what you're talking about, but in fact are purposely misleading people.
I keep seeing all these pics with incredible detail and resolution. Does anyone believe that this will be how things actually look in-game? That a modern desktop is capable of running something like this in-motion with dozens of other players on the screen? It doesn't make sense.
This comment in a nutshell capsulizes how ignorant the SC anti-fanboys. I didn't even need to read his response to know that many of these pictures are taken by people in-game. They have delivered substantially more than most anti-fanboys seem to be aware of.

As for the easy money making in-game, that's going to be a tough line to tread. If it's as easy as you're making it out to be, those whale level backers will likely feel as if they didn't get their money's worth.
SotA is a good example to apply. The whales "needed" things for their cash, namely influence over game mechanics. I don't see Star Citizen whales being much different, and I don't see them all being philanthropic enough to want to make all the toys they purchased super easy to attain for free.
@Erillion, you're probably the biggest SC supporter on here. When, in your best estimation, do you think the Star Citizen MMO will be released? The actual, full game release, no marketing mumbo jumbo.

I do not know.
I hoped to have SQ42 by now (November 2017 was my guess when the crowdfunding launched).
I hope(d) for Persistent Universe launch before X-Mas 2018 (when crowdfunding started).
These days i would say it takes longer.
But as I often said before - it should take as much time as needed to deliver an awesome, tested, low-bug-count, innovative space game. A true successor to Star Wars Galaxies in its early do-whatever-you-want-to-do incarnation.
In the meantime I have hundreds of other games to play if I want (in addition to playtesting SC Alpha).
And this is the new version of reality. It will be done when it's done. Deadlines no longer matter to the faithful. It takes as long as it takes. After all, when it is completed, it will be one of the best game ever devised by anyone in history. How could it not be? It is in the top five most funded games of all time, and without a AAA publisher, that money is worth 4 times that.
"As much time as it takes," is the new mantra after so many failures to make the mark.
I see SC as a real life, real world example of what feature creep is and how it can decimate a project. I mean, seriously.....had they just focused on the ship stuff and not gone off the rails with base building mechanics and looter shooter type mechanics, etc., do you think you'd still be waiting for it? And if you were, do you think you would still be waiting as LONG for it? I mean, realistically, with the staff and money these folks have, they could have made 2 games by now. And technically, that seems to be the problem: they're making like 4 different, interconnected games at once.
I dunno, it just seems that if they had stayed the course, the game would either be out by now or very close to coming out. The problem I forsee now is something we see in these projects lately that take too long to come out: sooner or later, your engine becomes outdated garbage. Then you have to scramble to upgrade the engine or adapt it to a newer, more versatile and powerful engine. This pushes the game out yet more months (sometimes years). See: Project Titan. How angry will people be when they have given 200 million dollars to these people and nothing comes out of it at the end but a bunch of unfinished, old looking games that are hastily put together in order to recoup some money?
