I think Russia is a wonderful country with great culture and amazing people. They are just under a questionable leader. Can't America and many other countries say the same? Gaming is global so developers and publishers have to think globally for the best return on investment and to make their dream a reality. The more players the better!
I agree , until I get cheated out of my gaming experience. PVP is a completely different beast then PVE, and Russian players who pvp will do most anything to win.
Funny story. Read several articles like the one below, over the past 10 years China has topped the list for most hacking.
Number 2 on almost every list? The United States. Russia almost always comes in like 4th or 5th.
Someone better get busy and ban those damn American cheaters!!!
Europe does not even feature on the list, I am rather let down. I suppose I could include Turkey as part of Europe but that's pushing it a bit. But in the spirit of us all being in it together I will.
tell that to the age of conan community....
That is more the fault of Funcom to fail to control hacking, not due to Russians hacking.
EVE has a huge following of Russians gamers, but does not have a massive hacking problem as CCP cracks down hard on it.
Sure, some cheat, mostly botting which is more challenging to fight, but I've not run into a gang speed hacking or any such silliness

No. The fallacy is that folks are led to believe this is something new. Russia has done this for decades. So has China. So has the US. So has pretty much any developed country.
Romney attempted to point out that Russia was a geopolitical foe and was mocked relentlessly because that fit the narrative at the time. Suddenly, when the time was right, the same voices that mocked him are shouting about it the loudest. The point it changed was Donna Brazile getting caught leaking Hillary debate questions. That was the current flashpoint.
Don't worry. When the narrative needs to change we will all be laughing at how we thought Russia we behind all the boogeymen. Then, of course, it will change again and they will be our mortal enemy.
I (I guess sadly) have never voted in an election. I just stand on the sidelines and mock the fake narratives of both sides. As others have said... once upon a time it was Chinese farmers hacking, then it was Brazilians. Today it's Russians. We never lack for a new boogeyman. Sad it even leaks into games.

Yes, it's not really debatable by any logical person at this point to think Russia didn't attempt (with varying degrees of success) to subvert our most important election. The intelligence community put that debate to rest a long time ago, and have since moved on to gauging the effects and how it happened to prevent it in the future.

I think you should re-read it. What I said (I'll dumb it down) was that nothing changes other than the narrative. Russia has been trying to influence politics around the world for decades. So has China. So has the US. So has any country with a shred of self-interest. What changed was the messaging here. A few years back it was inconvenient to suggest Russia was a foe (Romney). Then it became convenient (Brazile). Eventually, it will be inconvenient again. No reasonably intelligent person can think that this was the first election Russia attempted to influence. Nor should they believe that we do not do the same thing. It's just convenient to the narrative now to bring this to the forefront.
And now it has gone beyond politics and into games. Today we see Russia hackers behind everything. In the past, it was China or Brazil. Who knows, if things keep going this way maybe it will be Canada next year. Folks are always looking for a scapegoat.
Personally, I wish population density allowed most countries to have their own segregated servers. I think it really sucks when you can't communicate with folks in an MMORPG because everyone speaks a different language. It's not because I'm xenophobic. It's simply because of communication.

Just another example of a kickstarter using your money to develop a game so that they can later sell it to someone else for a profit. You've all been duped.
I feel like that's less applicable to MMOs in that a lot of ongoing development happens with online games these days. Shigeru Miyamoto is most known for games like Mario games that ship as cartridges. If they ship a bad game they couldn't just follow it with a patch. The copy of Mario you have from the late 80s still plays the same today that it did back then. Nowdays you would fire it up, patch for 30 minutes, and hop on to find all the changes they made.
That being said the most important time for any game is launch week because thats when a lot of people will be deciding if they every will play your game again.
I'm going to laugh so hard when this game gets blown up by the hackers and I will print shirts that say "Told You So, Noob q;P__..|.." and mail them to who ever wants one. lol
You simply refuse to see the point underneath your blind assumptions. Hacking is nation agnostic. There are sleeze bags in every country in the world. No one has a lock on trashy behavior.

Nice to know that another company will license the tech ACE has been developing. The studio has put a lot of effort creating their own MMO solutions for Crowfall.
Basically, the game will be 100% complete at soft launch. They have money set aside for marketing, but that money won't be spent at soft launch. Instead, they will simply launch the game and work on refining the "player funnel" as they call it, which means they will work on ensuring they have good player retention before they spend their marketing money to bring in as many people as possible.
How many games have we seen where the servers are overwhelmed at launch and a week later, 80% of those players have quit? Crowfall is going for more of a slow build, but with hopefully better retention.
