Poll: Do you worry about not being able to run a game?

I try to update my computer whenever possible, but it is extremely expensive. Thanks to bitcoin mining, a top of the line G-card is astronomical. 

Usually, to save some money, i'll buy last years model or get a generation behind. 

Whenever there is a gaming convention and all the hype goes crazy over this amazingly beautiful video game, the only thing that comes to my mind is...  "sigh, another game I can't run, or run with minimal settings on potato mode."

This is why graphics mean very little to me. For one, gameplay is king, and secondly, Uber graphics just means low frames and frustration.

Need another choice. For me when i was younger i would upgrade my pc for games. Now that i'm over 40 if i can't run a game i don't care about it.

I usually wait to upgrade until something I want to play won't run without an upgrade.  It's expensive just to upgrade just to have the latest and greatest. 

One thing I noticed is I'm getting bit-coin mining alerts which would probably put more demands on my system if they weren't being blocked.  Of course running anti-malware stuff probably adds just as much of a demand but keeps the big problems from getting through.

Well, they don't really make MMO's anymore so I don't have to worry about updating my computer very often.

No problems with MMO but there are a few AAA games where I have to butcher some of the graphical effects.

I'm not rich but I don't have to worry about upgrading my computer.

As I mentioned in another thread, a friend of mine gave up pc gaming because he didn't want to constantly upgrade his machine. When he does play games he uses a console.

My thought is if one wants to play a particular pc game then make sure you can play it. If you can't then it's not a "Right" to play games.

Every game now a days is designed for console. PC getting a straight port version. So if you don’t care about 4k 60+fps, then just build a PC that mimics current gen console and you’re good till next gen.

If I can run at 1080 and get over 40 fps on middle to high settings I'm happy, if not I'd probably upgrade something. That's most games, even new titles, covered. Something will eventually come along that will force me to upgrade something but that's PC gaming. It's the price you pay for being part of the PC Master Race.

I always worry that i will be forced to upgrade too often to keep up with new PC games because of how expensive it is to maintain a good PC.

Also, PC gaming on the cheap is not an option as it makes zero sense to me to have a mediocre experience on a "cheap" PC that is still double the price of the console itself.

I just play games i already own on PC and get new games on my console. Problem solved and I save a lot more money for actual games or other things. Plus I get the benefit of collecting the games i love on a shelf and the ones i like but have less importance on a digital library.

EDIT: For the last few years I've only been buying PC games that i will play in coop/pvp with my real life friends that have PCs. Outside of that, i buy on console. I'll probably always have a gaming PC (or laptop) because i own a lot of games there but will probably never be my main gaming platform.

Each to their own, of course.

I game at 1440p with an older system and seldom worry. My GPU is getting pretty long in the tooth for graphically intensive games, but there are so many games that have modest system specs that I really have no problem. This isn't the '90s where you had to keep your GPU updated every year or so.

If I'm addicted enough to a game to upgrade my computer for it, then it is worth it. But I've never had that happen so I haven't worried about it.

But you see if I can't play a game on good graphics then I won't get addicted to it. Thus, I don't worry about it.

Plus, I'm cheap when it comes to video games so I'm not used to the best graphics, so I don't know what I'm missing.

But I'm screwed with cars. I have a top of the line car, and thus everything that isn't the car, is junk. In one year I went from having a 12 year old car to having imo the best car lol.

My computer is only a few years old, so I always just assume it will run the game -- just not at the highest settings.

My budget determines whether I upgrade or not.  It determines when/whether I get a game or not.  I don't worry about or try to keep up with the Kardashians.

Most games are literally created to run on direct x 9 nowadays because the game developers want it to run on as many systems as possible so they can sell as many as possible. So for me to worry about running a game on my system is extremely rare. Though I did notice I had a big problem running subnautica on my laptop but not on my main rig which I really think is due to my laptop having not nearly as much ram and a much lesser graphics card. I have had issues running witcher 3 on my rig and found out the problems I have been experiencing with stuttering are actually somewhat common on pc and I attribute to a bad port. The game was designed for console and ported to pc by the game company.

4 years old pc, never updated hardware, still can run all games I want to play. Sure, I can't run the new ones on ultra gfx anymore. But I don't really care much about gfx. Some games I had to wait a little till I could play them, but those were just badly optimized.

Don't think I need an update this year but probably next year.

Yea, an open world game like Witcher 3 benefits a lot from the SSD.

meh 4 years old pc run any game only update you would really need was a video card, I bough a 1060 geforce last yer and I can run anything

actually no, witcher 3 run pretty nice even before I updated my video card, and I never even saw that problem you mentioned as a pc port problem

No. I'm an adult and don't have financial problems. I have enough money to upgrade my computer any time I need to.

Also upgrading computer has become rarer and rarer in recent years. I remember back when you had to buy a completely new PC every 2-3 years to be able to run games. Now I'm running 6 years old CPU + RAM + mobo and still don't need to upgrade.

Even so, rare is a game made specifically for top of the line PCs. Very few games today even take advantage of 4k video. Just ask people with their mini super computers how often games make use of their machines

And then when the game does, they complain that the game is poorly optimized.

   LoL, Sovrath this is not health care, I do not think anyone is saying they should have a "right" to play games:)

My computer is about average and I can play just about any game on high or even ultra. The only game that I need to run on medium is GTAV-even at medium game looks spectacular

Well perhaps there is a silver lining to having very few quality games hit the market over the last several years.It means i don't need to upgrade because there is nothing i want to play that forces me to upgrade.

One of the newer games i started playing and continue to play is Hearthstone, a very low end game so nothing powerful needed there.I was able to play FFXIV on my low end machine so that was a god send but i no longer play FFXIV anyhow.

Thankfully there is so much in the world to enjoy i don't need to be some gaming junkie,i can enjoy an hour or two playing older games and don't feel the NEED to go out and buy a newer machine.
Now if something amazing comes along that is game breaking,new and intriguing,then i might have to give it some serious consideration to upgrading.

PS...Let me know when that next great game comes out,i would love to play it and love to have that problem of maybe needing an upgrade.
