    2) I do agree kickstarters and crowdfunding need regulations because as it stands any idiot (just look at Chris) can promise anything and then just claim delay after delay and not have to deliver a product while denying people refunds.
This isn’t crowdfunding anymore though. He’s selling shit through their website so this is now either a sale or at best a pre order. Trying to still claim it’s crowdfunding is just trying to avoid the laws that come along with pre orders or sales. And yes I don’t think SC is the only party guilty of this.
You do not have to use a crowdfunding platform to conduct a crowdfund, several others do such. The reality hits because what is being sold is something to be, something still being funded by that very same process, hence the crowdfund reality.

The whole Pre-Order thing is something even Paypal disagrees with, they do give you buyer protection if you Pre-Order something, but they will not if you crowdfund something, and they explained the distinction, crowdfunding is speculative, it implies risks, hence why they couldn't be conducting this "insurance" over it.

Odd. I thought I saw articles calling this a scam as well. Guess we should take the gaming press word about that as well eh?

kickstarters are a donation to an idear so cant see refunds ever being a thing unless you accidently bought in a few days before trying to refund.
This is no longer a kickstarter though, the period for pledging to the kickstarter ended in 2012. Since then it has been stretch goals (finished many years ago), pre-purchases and pre-orders through their private website.

If vat is added, then it's not a donation, it is a purchase, as donations are either exempt or zero rated afaik, depends where you live when you made the purchase/donation I guess.
Yep. It's a digital purchase. Funnily enough the CIG representative argued that it is a donation much like a person would give to a church. So for 30 days it is a purchase as they have to give your money back if not satisfied, after 30 days they consider it a donation.
Hmm, but CIG says otherwise, they made it very clear that the moment I paid them it was a donation and refunds weren't being accepted, no 30 days anything. Every new buyer gets this message I assume, not just me. Their stance is clear on the matter, legally grey or not.
Tax officials do not accept a transaction where both parties donate something to each other. If such transactions were accepted, then we'd see massive tax evasion by people donating money to businesses and businesses donation their stuff in exchange.

CIG may call it a donation all they want, but as long as they give you the game, or virtual goods, or something such in exchange tax officials do not accept it and they must pay VAT.
Governments only recognize business income as a donation if the business is a not-for-profit and has registered itself as such.  A pledge is what it means, a promise to do something.  People are saying I promise to make a transaction with you based on your written agreement, then they click a purchase link.  Which is why CIG is taxed on their income just like any other business would be.

Calling it a pledge rather then a purchase makes it sound like a donation in which you give money without any expectation of getting anything (except a tax write-off) in return but you do expect to get something in return, temporary control of ingame assets that can be altered anytime by the company or lost to you completely if the company should shut down.  Basically a rental agreement.

I read that article when it came out in PC Magazine, the author came across as an E:D fanboy. He was willing to overlook so many lacking features when it first came out, and everyone can admit it was pretty bare bone's then, that it came across more as an opinion piece rather than an objective review.

Also, a fun little anecdote, the author was pretty adamant on Twitter that E:D would have space legs and explorable stations in no time, four years later and we still wait.

Not surprising actualy. ED fanboys inferiority complex overlaps a lot with the bitterness of the smarties acolytes sa goon manchilds lol

They like to pretend they dont get triggered by Star Citizen continuous sucess after they wasted 3 years of their sad lives trying to derrail the projecto only to see it getting better and better.

The only thing better than backing and getting to playtest a game of this magnitude so early is watching the armchair dev's who say feature X cant be done crawling back to their caves to re-organize their "reasons why it will fail" lol

totoally not a photoshop but I guess because it doesn’t fit your narrative you try and dismiss it as goon pictures. I bet you see Derek Smart in every shadow you walk by and the goons are really the puppet masters of the world aren’t they?

I'm going for blogger, as I've never heard of it before and the PC Gamer article it heavily draws from does not use the word scam anywhere.

Oh yeah as for that video you know the judge dismissed without prejudice so really they can keep going back to court over and over until they either get a ruling that they like or the judge dismisses with prejudice. Not many people will actually keep trying but you never know.

off topic does anything think Montoya looks odd in that video? Either he just got Botox, lost some weight or perhaps SC has taken more of his soul but he looks weird

What are you an SC cultist now? SC is a scam and will never release, I heard it on the internet.

I love when article writers have to manage to put the word "scam" somewhere in there, audience win, that Forbes blogger would tell ya xD

    According to this subforum:
-CIG is currently developping Star Citizen.
-CIG is led by Chris Roberts, visionary game developper, prodigy from the 90s who came back to save pc gaming.
-All the pipelines have been refactored and are currently churning out content at an incredible pace.
-They're creating ground breaking technology, pushing the boundaries of pc gaming.
-Star Citizen, though currently in alpha, already has more content and is more fun than any other game.
-The game is getting better and better with each and every update.
-There is absolutely no reason not to be confident in this project.
-Star Citizen will be the new standard by which any other game will be judged.

So, with these elements taken in account, why are backers raging that hard at what people can write on the internet? Why do they always rant about that sa goon derek fud thing? Why do they point at strangers on the internet, accusing them of being sa derek goon fud people, and why do they project all this twisted spectrum of emotions on them?
From an outside point of view, sometimes it looks as if backers weren't having that much fun in the verse.

C'mon you cant be that naive lol...

Haters, trolls, ed fanboys, cynics need to feed on drama, concerns and overall bullshit because they've got nothing else going lol

Star Citizen is their dream game but they cant handle the wait so all that's left is trow tantrums along the ride for the lulz

The majority of the backers understood fully what they were getting into when they backed Star Citizen so pointing and laughing at the infants who cry "doom" at every sharp turn is just part of the journey by now.

Oh and if the SAd goons forum  is closed you could always check the Elite official forum Star Citizen thread. It's their civilian branch lol

For me it's just a game, a form of entertainment and something to play.  For others it's like a sports team and they will say or do what it takes to show loyalty to their team and they take everything said about the game as something being said about them.  Either that or they may be  getting paid for posting.
