I have to agree with what Vlad is saying especially the fact that calling something a turd doesn't make it true. I too have to wonder how many of you actually play the game? As for the OP and the *bumpy start*, yep that is true. It's also true that in the 3.5 years I've played, this is the first time I've seen them do a rollback.
I would encourage anyone who has never actually played the game to get in a free trial and see for yourself how awesome the game is. If you have never actually worked with game developers to build a game, you'll find this quite an exhilarating experience.
Welcome to the boards! I can't say I agree with you, but your passion for MMORPG's is duly noted.
Thanks! No need to agree with me as we all have different games we like to play and for different reasons. :-) I can appreciate that Shroud of the Avatar isn't everyone's cup of tea. Which is why I believe that the people who don't like SOTA should find a game they do like and talk about how wonderful that game is. Positive energy is a thing of beauty.
I am afraid you have to take the good with the bad on here. I still have not written of SotA myself, it seems we have entered an era where newly launched MMOs are a work in progress. This was always the case to a certain extent, but with the new indies coming out it seems to me as if they may all be in what is some sort of extended beta after launch.
We have seen some amazing turn around's in the MMO world, Anarchy Online and FF online being the two biggest I know of. We do hear of players having a great time with friends, it is outside of such groups that most of the criticisms come. But as yet no indie has done such a turn around, so for me SotA is still on a time out.
Fionwyn "Two-Post Wonder" Wyldmane is one of the regulars from the whale pod over on the SotA forums. She's only here to white-knight for Vlad...don't fall for it.
Even if she is, still welcome to visit the forums here and share her opinions on the game.

Fans of MMORPG's are always welcome on these boards, and it is good to see people realising there is a broader game community beyond their official boards. When we have posters like Postlarval to keep an eye on any White Knights I am sure their jousting will fit in with the rest of us here.

True, and I'll gladly be the first willing to cast aspersions on that embarrassment of a game, but she's really not here to share anything but her blind support for Vlad and the ever-sinking ship called SotA. Don't be fooled. This has been the MO of the SotA whale pod since 2013. People have been discussing SotA here for a long time. She has been discussing SotA on their site since 2015 (with 1,456 posts to her name) and just now she decides to come over here and "participate"? Riigghhtt...
Portalarium probably asked her and the rest of the holdouts to go out into the world again and recruit, like all good cults do. I smell another SotA brigade incoming...mmorpg.com and the rest of the MMO sites beware. They may even try another round with Steam. Who knows, they may avoid getting caught this time.

You guys don't discuss SotA, you just call it a turd and cite your own opinion as fact.
So far we have a grand total of ZERO of you who have played the game recently, and responded from that state of the game.
The fact is that it is absolutely getting better every month, and most of the arguments that were legit when you all played last, one or two years ago, are gone. The last hold out is the quest journal and state of the story, but as an MMO it more than makes up for it in other areas.

The thing is, no matter how much better they make it, as far as I know they are not undoing previous design decisions which drove away many here.
It still lacks a PVP slider, it still has whales who have purchased some great in game items such as housing and town locations.
It still is fairly instanced, and players often retreat into their own personal worlds which contributes to the world feeling empty.
Play card style combat, right? Non starter for many, including me.
For those willing to overlook all of the above I'm sure the recent improvements are great, but I've seen nothing to encourage me to give it a try, even for free.
You likely won't win over anyone who has written it off for "reasons" and certainly not by angrily chastising them for not playing it recently.

Very doubtful this game will survive until the end of the year. It still has bugs galore, I regret I wasted money on this game.
Anyone trying to put a positive spin on this game is hoping for changes that will never come. I kept hoping it would get better and release after release it just gets worse!

Say what you want about this game, they have consistently updated it every month for 56 months. I got in around R30. This is the first hiccup in a release I have seen. And they patch regularly for the week or so afterwards to squash bugs. Small team. Small budget. Decent game.
Say whatever you want. I still have to take a dump everyday. It doesn't make it good or smell good. The fact that they still try to make a good game doesn't mean it's a good game. A pile of shit will always be a pile of shit. Doesn't matter how often you update your shit.
you are my favorite. +1 to this, Richard Garriott should be ASHAMED that he released this turd.
Ashamed is probably the last thing that Richard Garriott will be, considering he is a grown-ass man wearing crown to a Game Dev Conference:
You know what this reminds me of? Wiz the car salesman from Seinfeld :P :
I agree they were very quick to fix. This is the first I remember as well since I have been playing that they needed a role back. The game has huge content patches every month which I would have expected to see more, but they have been doing a fantastic job with keeping exploits out.
I look forward to all the future patches and specifically the ones coming end of the this month and next with the start of the player dungeons. This alone is what I have been waiting for since 2016
