WoW...Sylvanus...you all really know how to pick warchiefs...morally grey my arse. So uh, Suzie, you still a Sylvanus fan? As I saw on the WoW forums, maybe this is a ploy to get faction changes back to Alliance. So many folks thought there would be a plot twist...nope, Horde ARE evil.

While I won't defend Sylvanas' decision to burn the city, you can't generalize the entire Horde as evil. Varok, who is a strong voice in the Horde, clearly is guided by his own moral compass. One that is very different than Sylvanas'. I can't imagine he is very happy about how things are shaping up.

On a different note, I think it is interesting that Sylvanas has essentially become everything she fought against while living. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I honestly don't think she will simply become Garrosh 2.0. That would be too shallow and uninspired. Perhaps there will be a path of redemption in her future. One thing is certain, things are going to get worse before they get better.

    Regardless, FOR THE HORDE!

People on the WOW forums are comparing SylvAnus to deplorable tyrants throughout history, WOW she seems like a really bad role model. Is this a fair assessment ?

I think many people including myself would like to have the option to not obey the war-chief. following sylvanas at this point is like following a dictator .. cant really see a good reason for why members of the horde would wanna follow in her footsteps unless they are all evil that is, lore vice that does not make sense to me. they should at least do the story from the horde's perspective or something, now i feel like i only see her for how the alliance view her .. i'm just rambling at this point xD sry

I had the same insight. She's become the Lich Queen, and she died defending her land and people from the Lich King. Her heart is a crater, and we have filled it - Old Gods...Pretty clear this is who they are referring to.

It's all good, I've been ready to see her killed off for a while now. She isn't doing anything good for the undead anymore, other than setting them up for the horde to turn on them.

Why have mercy on your enemies when you're trying to annihilate them? Her horde is the horde i'm proud to be a part of. I can finally say horde has a warchief that fits my playstyle.

Well... if you HAVE to start a war... The most moraly right thing to do is make it a short and quick one. If your goal is to evict your enemy from "your" land you need to break their spirit.

In this case your enemy is a quasi-immortal race of arsehats that have their own treehouse fortress and are kind of known for not breaking in spirit...

In fact the only times the Night Elves even showed that kind of engagement was when they where attacked in what they see as their home. So if you are to finally push them over the edge... Burning the treefort is probably a good idea. If not you are going to be locked in to a neverending trenchbattle.

And at least Windrunner seems to have a plan.... Unlike the last warmonger who sat on the throne... Hellscream was about as good of a leader as my pet rock. And about as smart.

I agree with you. This screams (no pun intended) of comparisons with Garrosh. That's shallow even for Blizzard. Something has to be different. Something will change and I expect a major twist at some point. Redemption? A third faction  as a result of the split with the Horde? I think Blizzard is up to something and this is just Act 1.
Hope so. Or something involving old gods

if its literally just garrosh 2.0...BFA will be worse than WoD ever was.

I refuse to do the quest or participate in Darkshore. It makes absolutely no fucking sense that player characters who worked alongside the Titans to defeat Sargeras and the Legion are going to willingly participate in this. It makes it even worse because my main is a Druid and I just spent an expansion working so closely with other Druids, including Night Elves.

All I can say is this had better not be the, "morally grey" that they were talking about because there is nothing grey about this. It is black and white. What Sylvannas, and the Horde participants did was evil.

Personally, I play an old orc warlock, and in my headcannon he was one of original to cross the Dark Portal with the shadow council. I like to think of him as probably a bit too ambitious for his own good and clearly has some flexible morals, hence he is a lock. So he doesn't particularly care why Sylvanas started the war. However, while I was reveling in the destruction of Darkshore and thinning the elf population a bit, I did feel a little tug of sorrow for my Horde Druid compatriots. They are definitely in a weird spot in terms of the lore during this conflict. It seems a bit ass backward for druids to fight each other, given their higher alliance is to nature. /respect your conscientious objection.

Time for the alliance to take the gloves off. Put its armies control under Greymane or Jaina and tell them to wipe Azeroth clean of the Forsaken and any other horde that gets in the way. Saurfang can't be happy about the burning.

Lots of Horde players in the RP community are bothered by this, and I don't understand why. They picked the monster faction and decided somewhere along the way that they weren't the bad guys. Own it, already.

Some interesting and well-considered alternate viewpoints from WoWhead's comments:
"Hope fails. Now you understand?" - Sylvanas.

Delaryn did not. Alliance did not. Some of the Horde even did not.

With that said, every escalation in war is valid. The Warchief did some good showing that there is no hope actually. For anyone.

That's why in some universe, Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War: "If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected ."

There is no moral in War. Only victory. Assigning moral attributes in a faction during war, is wrong.
Some of you do not, or cannot, appreciate the nuances of writing. Clearly, the NE female Sylvannas/DL was speaking to taught her something about the concept of hope. I believe this was a pivotal changing point in DL's thought process. When conquering a foe, in this case converting them to a new life as Forsaken, seeds of hope can do more harm than good. When we have NE Forsaken/Undead will they look back on their life with regret or longing? The DL is trying to avoid this by taking the "Hope" option out of the equation. Forsaken NE's have new concerns - immortality, joining the Horde, etc. Only look forward, never back.

In the end, I feel like the DL is doing the NE's a great service in taking away their hope.
    Vol'jin: "Many will not understand."
This was a tactical decision on the same level as Theramore, except so much more... because she knows how to treat the Horde races... to appeal to their instincts, she understands things that we simply don't and all in this vainglorious effort to free the living from the bonds of immutable suffering that comprises life.

The citizens of Westfall, their children starved...
Duskwood lives in constant fear and paranoia...
Lakeshire has fought threat after threat...
    guards falling one after another...
and Suffering is no stranger to the Rich and Powerful...
Anduin suffers for his father and for the people he can't save...

Sylvanas wants to free you from the burden that comes with emotionality... free you from the burden of life's cruelest trick... that it has any purpose but to keep you chained. Life is Arthas....

Life governs you and rules you. You deny death because Life has you trained... like an abusive boyfriend he just keeps you beat down and afraid of the alternative... afraid of what death could do for you... but she's here now... not to control you... not to rule you in the way you might expect... but to liberate you... to give you true reign over your own life...

This is the social WoW equivalent of Hiroshima. The principle being the exact same... she wants to kill the will to fight, and she knows that they will want revenge but drawing the war out will force the Alliance to acquiesce... if you want to win the long game... this is how you play it... and she wants to win at all cost. And how could I see that as wrong?
And then for the more humorous ones (which all Horde players need about now with this abysmal story so far...):

"I would love to see Jaina teleport Dalaran over Orgrimmar and just let it drop"
Garrosh: “Why do we tolerate the Alliance? Let’s just kill them and take what we want”
Thrall: “You seem like your dad, I liked him. Want to be Warchief?”

Sylvanas: “Death claims us all, death is awesome, I need more Forsaken to shore up my power.”
Vol’jin: “I NEVER trusted you, Windrunner. Want to be Warchief?”

The post-modern Horde, ladies and gentleman *facepalms*

id think he'd be even less happy when she plagues the alliance and horde(collateral damage) during the battle for lordaeron…..cause you know that whole son thing at wrathgate.

I love this expansion already and it's not even here yet.  After today's revelation, there's enough Horde Emo in official General Discussion to start a Azeroth Goth movement.
You know...when the Nelf story turned to shit, I empathized with Nelf players and how the story bothered them. The lack of any sort of empathy for Horde players who are equally as disturbed by the story and how it's playing out is bothersome. We ALL deserve better storytelling than the garbage we've been fed so far.

Problem is that, no matter what happens down the line (Old Gods or Azerite influence or whatever), it'll be too late to change the shitshow and the damage that has been done...to Teldrassil, to Undercity.
