Yes Max, the pain you and your kind inflicts... On the arteries of unsuspecting breakfast food lovers!
I knew this would take a weird turn from that post, you just made it the best turn!
Felt it needed the relief! Disagreeing (even vehemently) is one thing.. But predicting suicides and wishing the like on folks? That's taking it a little too seriously!
I would tell everyone to relax, but you can't win an argument with a SC fan cuz they bring the knowledge! They have all the free time in the world to gather the knowledge after playing whatever small amount of gameplay is available currently.
And for the others that are bashing the SC game and fans, we all know none of this would happen if we all had a enough games to play!

Gut Out!
Not really.
I have plenty of games to play. More than enough. It just so happens that Star Citizen falls within my zone of interest from a business and artistic perspective, and is the conversation du jour.

Funny, Pledges have always been a way to donate to a project, with some "type" of an in-game asset as a thank you. 1) Duel Universe is doing it. 2) Crowfall is doing it. 3) Ashes of Creation is doing it. 4) Camelot Unchained is doing it. 5) Chronicles of Eylaria is doing it.
I would like some actual facts about the process and especially how long it will take to acquire ships. If it takes a month of grinding to get one ship or only a couple days, that will really put into perspective how P2W this game is. At least for me personally.
I also believe it is P2W, but for some people they either don't care or hold a different definition of P2W. So it's obviously subjective .
There are no facts about how long it will take to earn a ship in game because they haven't gotten to that part yet. They are still working on core issues and future concepts.

No one has a problem with the support package. It is the lack of server wipes and lack of deleting amassed currency and items that create an unbalanced game economy at the start. Everyone should basically start at the same stage on release day.
Even if they did do that (and how can they if people spent hundreds of dollars for ships in alpha) the players that have been in this for years have such a huge advantage knowledge wise over the rest of us that we really cant compete.

Octagon, you are wrong on this. Chris has already stated that what is $100 today will be $300 at launch. Currency will start at 1,000 to 1. The math gurus have already ran the numbers. You will only be able to buy $750 of in game currency per month. Doing the math, it will take four months at that rate to buy one of the ships, the Ildris I believe it is called.
Chris may have said it, and believed that, but there's no telling what it will be like in the future. Continual refactoring and creepage. He's inconstant. Fan folks like to pretend that his failure to even vaguely predict element releases isn't symptomatic of his management for everything.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Patently false. All that playtest in the PU have their aUEC reset every patch.
Name one mmo to ever wipe currency/items on lunch day. Funny, every players reputation with the factions is not going to be very good and will need to be gained by doing missions, which in turn becomes a balancing factor, along with having such a low reputation will limit what in-game items players will have access to. So much for your concern bullshit.
Yes, it is one of the most P2W games ever devised. I'll say it again.
You can buy ships for RL money. You can buy land for RL money. You can buy credits for RL money.
Literally up there with the most egregious versions of P2W.
And there is nothing wrong, or more importantly relevant, with being bitter. A really stupid assumption to make anyway.
You're in lalaland.
You CAN'T buy ships for RL money. You CAN'T buy land for RL money. You CAN buy credits for RL money.
The 3rd option IS the actual announced planned revenue model of the game, the pledge packages were never and are not meant to be permanent aside of starter ships.
If this model works for EvE it can very well work for SC.
You can't buy ships with RL money, other than the ships you can buy with RL money.
They are selling ships for RL money on their site right now, and have been doing so for a good, long time. It is pretty hard to alternate fact away what their own website shows to be incontestable. Good grief!
I can understand wanting to routinely defend a game in progress that is routinely attacked, but it would be nice if people could at least not post blatant misinformation in the process.
That they may be doing something different down the line doesn't change what they have done and continue to do at present.
Currently they are selling pledge packages for real life money. These contain one or more spaceships. Only a basic pledge package is necessary. Everything more is voluntary and supports the crowdfunding project. There are many pledge packages with many ships.
After launch of the Star Citizen Persistent Universe only the game package (with a starter ship) will be sold for real life money, if you want a ship. Optionally with the Squadron 42 solo game included (and possible story DLCs for SQ42). Some other things (like ship skins or decorative items etc.) will also be available for real life money.
Currently there are two starter ships (Aurora and Mustang ... backers ask for more variety in starter ships, with a dedicated miner, explorer and bounty hunter ship .. we will see). The other ships currently available via pledge packages will NOT be offered for real life money after launch.
Fascinating discussion. Well, no. Not really. Squabbling, mostly.
I do have one question, though. When (and if) this game is completed and finally launched to the real world, how many quatloos is it going to cost me to buy the complete game and be at an average level?
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

The base game costs 45$, and there is no leveling its sandbox on that aspect.

If you like Squadron 42 story DLCs, i would expect some more bucks every few months for the (optional) story DLCs for the solo game.

So, for $45 on day 1 of release, I'd be an average player? How'd everyone get ahead of me, then?

Some people will have experience from Alpha and Beta testing before launch.
Some people have organized themselves in player groups before launch. Some train together in Alpha (and will do so in Beta).
However, as there are plenty of video guides, you could have the same information they have before launch.
You could train for free during one of the free-fly weekends.
And you could join a player group NOW. You do not even need to buy the 45 $ package for that.

on lunch? no one I know off, but for launch date? archeage, aion, most/all aeria games ragnarok, RFonline; need me too keep going?
The thing that people are worried about is those that there will be those that have millions by the time this hits release and only they will control the economy. Guess what....think of it as they have been playing since day one and a person comes in 2 years later, yes it is those that are long timers that will control the economy and the newbie has no control over anything because they have no large amount funds yet. It is the same in every game....those that have the large funds will control the economy.
The in game economy will always be skewed and will settle out over a period of time. There will always be those that will have way more than others. When I played WoW, I never had more than 50,000 on any one toon and personally knew several that were gold capped on several toons. The economy was screwed up every time an expansion hit, but it settles out after about 3 months and it will in this game as well. It may be longer than 3 months but it will settle and will be viable in the long run. If I remember correctly there were people saying it was doomsday for the economy when they lifted the gold cap in WoW as well.

Oh I know it must have been the 27K ship package that you have to pay 1k just to get to the web page that gave this away!!!
I was a backer way back when before this all went to CR head and now he is playing everyone for every penny he can!!
I know that statement will get the fan boys pissed off, but YES he is playing you too!!
Until the fan boys stop drinking the koolaid and wake up CR will ride you hard and put you up wet!!!
It is time for the so called "Investors" i.e. fan boys to hold CIG accountable as the community, are the only people who can!
After all, the CEO, CFO, Producer, and board of directors are all one in the same, and will not push complete anything!!
Humm,,, maybe EA doesn't look so bad now!!
