as cool as large zerg battles can be , im hoping theres still plenty of small scale wars I find them more enjoyable than big wars that are only won by numbers

There should be, ESO has that, DAoC has that, pretty sure GW2 has that - dunno what other fantasy MMORPGs have open world RvR or something similar, but if those three have small scale battles, pretty sure CU will too. Whether any of it will be fun is still up in the air (as with any game in development), but im near certain that a significant number of players will want 5v5 or 8v8 or 8v4 (lol).
Don't worry, there will be single groups roaming the countryside, and hell hath no fury greater than an eight man fight that the zerg try to add on.
I recall Mythic had to warn players not to threaten or harass others of their own realm who added on to a fight, all enemy were fair game, but they never really could qwell the behavior.

The bulk of players will no doubt be focused on the large scale battles: that is the main focus of the game, gather players to take territory.
But beyond that, there will no doubt be tons of roaming players near the big fights and some players even further off. There will be players who do nothing but camp respawn routes, attempting to hinder enemy replacements.
There will also be caravans in this game iirc. Most buildings in the pvp zones (i.e. whole game) will be designed and built by players and the necessary resources required will be huge. Those resources need to be transported to the building site either on your person (in small amounts) or by caravan. My hope is that there will be significant portions of the player base who do nothing but attack, defend and transport caravans "for the good of the realm" so that awesome castles, forts and trading posts can be setup through the game world.

I ran into a few small scale battles while playing GW2, not hard to do especially if opposing players had world completion targets or quests in your zones, or were just looking for one vs one fights.

DAOC 8-man vs 8-man open-realm fights were some of the best battles ever. any game. add-ons, or the possibility of add-ons, just kept things interesting.
