What are your impressions of BFA (Battle For Azeroth)?

TheScavengerTheScavenger Member EpicPosts: 3,321
Granted, it just got officially unlocked today...though pre-patch did include a lot of the changes as well. But figured I'd see what people think as they play through BFA and get toward the "end".

So far since I'm on moonguard, I've stuck with legion stuff. I did check it out a bit to get the amulet, but there were so many people I decided to wait for the rush to be over lol. So I don't have much to comment on.

What you guys think of it thus far?

Also, I'm going into BFA with both a Disc/holy priest (I find holy to have better survivability and solo better) and a Resto Druid as backup (which also solos as good as priest) in case they make both priest specs bad for soloing.

    Which leads to 2nd question...

What class(es) you going into with BFA as main(s)?

Just logged out but was really enjoying the music, sights, and sounds on my first trip to Kul Tiras on my Dwarf Ret Pally main, created on launch day 2004 and online for the release of expansion 7 nearly 14 years later (albeit with around 8 years of combined hiatus, gone 6 years consecutively from Cata to Legion).

The launch seemed smooth on my server, despite a hiccup for 45 minutes or so with the login and authentication servers right around the time it went live when the server screen showed all my characters gone. I agree it can feel nuts with 40 player mounts all stacked on top of every NPC you see, but after I got on the boat and moved along to the new zones, people are starting to spread out.

This WoW fanboy is not really impressed so far.
Its definitely par for the course at this point. Nothing really new right now, but I'm really hoping Warfronts are more interesting when they launch. I do like the changes to how AP works this expac, but I'm not really seeing any super interesting AP choices thus far.

Most of all, though, I'm excited to finally get back to horde vs alliance. I'm really hoping the story continues to evolve and doesn't stray too far back into the "world ending event requiring horde and alliance to band together" scenario again. Pretty tired of those, honestly.

People of my guild are already starting Mythic dungeons less than two days after the expansion's release. This game has become a sad joke when it comes to leveling and difficulty.

And War mode was a nice idea but also failed... OP level 120 enemy players are already camping starter enemy areas in the expansion, and despite the supposed scaling mechanics, a lower level character has not a chance against them.

This said, the environments are very well designed and detailed as usual, and the lore is nice too. I'm not rushing, playing through reading it all. And once I have a 120 on both horde and alliance side, I'll most likely go back to ESO full time.

They really need to include actual PvP objectives in the open world more if they want to see more OWPvP.  The WQs in Legion were a start, and I'm assuming the Warfront stuff will include some PvP, but I really think things like towers or forts spread throughout the zones that provide faction-wide buffs is really what needs to happen if Blizzard truly wants to see folks opting into War Mode and actively participating beyond "lol I'm 120 in a day and bored, let's go team-gank lower level folks as they fly in!"

I did the pre launch stuff with my hunter, but decided I would wait for the initial rush to die down so was trying to build up rep in legion to get some of the new races. (took a year off or so and didn't do the rep grind..sob).

My brother gave it a chance. He is already 120 on the way of gearing up. He said he won't last very much on this patch, 1, 1.5 months at most before he leaves.

Everything has really become too fast... a few minutes ago, some guildies already got the heroic dungeon achievement... yeah, they completed all heroic dungeons two days after release.

And the saddest part is they don't seem to see what is wrong with that.

Seems like Blizzard pushed the game one major step further to easy mode for kiddies again. I still enjoy the stories though, and the world is delightfully built. That saves the day for the expansion for me, but that's definitely no longer the WotLK WoW which was the best theme park ever made back then.
Yeah you are spot on with this. But didnt they nerf leveling because all the testers in Alpha and Beta were complaining ?

I'v always enjoyed the journey to lvl cap more then the endgame going all the way back to wrath. I think maybe BC and Vanilla were the only times in WOW where i got more enjoyment out of endgame and that was only because i was in a great guild with a hilarious group of people.

like most of wow expansions it will last a few months then players will be done and gone. the money grab will be complete and on to the next expansion they will make.

Thats the problem with people that live in the past: when something changes its very difficult for them to adjust.

What you do when you reach max level has changed and its different now. Its not how it was over 10 years ago. I am a little disappointed that Normal and Heroic dungeons were nerfed in difficulty as back in Alpha and Beta even Normal leveling dungeons had many hard 1-shot death mechanics. But, Im not going to complain endlessly on message boards about it like some.

The problem in your post is that you assume I will "complain endlessly", even though I just posted in this thread.

And accusing me to live in the past is one of the most funny thing posted lately here. You obviously don't know me.
Doing the "old man yells at cloud" routine about how things "are too fast these days" then waxing poetic about an expansion that was 10 years ago?

Oh yeah, I reeeeeaaaallllllly missed the mark here.

    Yeah ....sure.

I'm kinda ashamed to be dragged into this maelstrom again . I blame my son. He got a new account and was playing and he even took a character boost so I started getting an annoying WoW itch I swear you need a cream for it. I caved in and am playing and on a server that is only medium population.

I was playing my level 19 when I got the quest to go get my riding skill from Darnassus. So I asked in general whether I could get it from any trainer and someone commented good luck getting it from Darnassus. So was curious since the character I was playing was created in January this year before the destruction and made a night elf and lo and behold I counted this, there were 23 people besides me in the starting area. I mean good god this game is so amazing after 14 years it still attracts people enough to make new characters and level up. WoW is a drug I am convinced of it.

I only had two toons at 110 from legion.  Once both of those are at 120, I'm done again until the next expansion most likely.  I'm liking the story so I may stick around from awhile, but I won't rep grind for any game and I have no interest in pvp.

I do love the new areas for alliance and horde.  Lots of detail and great music.  Loving the pirate theme on alliance side, though I feel the story on Horde side is a bit better.

I have a BM hunter on alliance and Enhancement Shammy on Horde.  I think i'm in the minority on those so far.  The most popular classes I have seen are: DH, Warlock, Pally, and Rogue.  I should mention that speed runs are already happening in dungeons from day one.

I can only comment on the questing, presentation of story, and zone design from an Alliance perspective as those are the only pieces of the new expansion I've experienced thus far. Boralus is amazing, detailed, full of NPC's, and beautiful. The zones themselves have some of the best textures, lighting, and ambience the game has to offer. Though I'm not very attached to the Warcraft story or lore, it's presented in a way that doesn't make you chase information, or be forced to read every quest from every hub to understand what's important to the majority of the plot. The in-game cut scenes help with this in a big way.

Overall, Battle For Azeroth has exceeded my expectations in the limited manner I've interacted with it.

War mode brought me back . I don't think I will be staying though , while I wasn't expecting real challenge from the mobs killing them is far too easy .I appreciate some people like this but I find it boring as hell .

Frankly speaking, at first I got various negative reviews related to  BFA like, it is more similar to mish-mash. but after playing it seems a bit different, I have not played to the high levels but yet I liked the expensive looking environment. I think it is a good break from the normal Warcraft theme. I don’t know much as I haven’t played very far but I wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks

War mode, more like safe space mode , Everyone has it turned off. I Started the first day with it on and wasn't seeing any players, switched it off and server/shard is packed.

That's because everyone is on opposite territories now.........

I would give you a guest pass to SWOTR, but then I wouldn't be able to find a way to live with myself afterwards....

the story is very nice, areas are really well done, and damn, those chars rock (bwonsamdi anyone? plz tell me you didn't miss his reference, how could one!?)

not quite sure i like the gain of new skills/passives, but let's find out how that works out in the end (should reach 120 today, finally *G*)

Yes but you are also sharded (sharted) with your own faction who has it turned on so point being was ,no one on alliance had this turned on. First night i saw maybe 4 alliance players with it on, next night i saw 20-30 with it off. I'm not talking about how many horde i saw, obviously everyone is leveling on their island

I am enjoying the world and story....my main is 114 and I haven't touched an alt. Your guild mates doing Mythics don't affect my enjoyment one bit.

As for war mode I cannot agree. I play a Rogue and at 113 I jumped a 120 Rogue attempting to gank a 113 warlock who was obviously not even aware the Rogue was on him while he was soloing some mobs. The Rogue turned to fight me but I dispatched him quickly and easily. About as good a test as you can get with the same class fighting each other, the 113 not only had "a chance" but destroyed him. Sure I got the jump on him so had the advantage, but his level did not factor in at all imo.

This is my experience too. And everyone before warmode/BFA release said it was gonna help PvP and make it better lol. Instead it just made most people turn it off...like they could before on non-PvP servers.
