It's simple: don't pre-pay for this game. This far out, all you can really do is watch carefully and not commit yourself to anything financially, IMO.
Good advice, but some folks are already "in for a penny, in for a pound" and might be experiencing some remorse now.

Could be a reason to request a refund maybe?

My.com as the publisher of AoC? Oh they can jinx it up so many ways beyond not having creative control, such as driving the revenue models of the title.

Does "full  creative control" include all aspects of monetization ? Or is this all just wordsmithing ?

Steven may be planning to build a great game, but I'm quite sure he also intends to make the maximum possible profit on this venture. No doubt he has plans to leverage his MLM experience in new ways in the gaming industry. The referral scheme is probably just the first example...

Hardly would, publishers are standard to influence and push monetization to what they think most profitable, the creative control of the devs tends to only go as far as while the publisher likes the profits they manage with it.

Most game developers are planning on building a great game.  Most of them simply fail in their efforts at doing so.

For what it's worth the My.com exec posted in his reply his company was interested in Ashes because it was not like their current titles and specifically because it has a monetization model (sub based) which appeals more to western audiances.

    Won't he be surprised.....

    ;)

Oh yeah, you know Twitch streaming / revenue is going to factor in somewhere,  just waiting for the Ashes BR mode announcement.

Always part of the core build of course.

    Never, ever P2W.....ever....

Released by Dec 2019...bet on it.
