We both wish to play SQ42 soon.

Seems like i have more other games to play until SQ42 is released, so that the waiting does not bother me as much as it bothers you.

Actually I prefer to just tell people that I find their dismissive attitude to legitimate concerns disheartening and that it enables the poor behavior/performance of the company.  It also generates a ton of extra “hate” for the game from people who probably wouldn’t otherwise care.

So back to the topic.  I give them until the convention to give an actual ETA for Squadron 42.  After that, the gloves come off.

I don't want to playtest any Beta.

    I just want Squadron 42.

I'm sure that throwing tantrums on gaming forums will speed things up...  :D

    I mean don't you think that's a tad bit immature reaction over a video-game?
Almost seems like an obsession, in an unhealthy way that is. I mean if it's causing so much discomfort and all maybe it would be better to just forget about it for a while...

Don't get the frustration of following video-games get the best of you, not worth it. ;)

It will be ready when it's ready, that's the best part of it, embrace it or move on because there's nothing you can do to change that.

No but if you want to discuss obsessing over a game go compare your Star Citizen post count to mine.

Ive been extraordinarily patient for 6 years.

It's not about post count and more about the content of it...

Star Citizen could end tomorrow and life would go on, you certainly wouldn't see me throwing a tantrum or e-crying about it.

You seem to be about to snap over a video game you have no control whatsoever, what's the point? Look around and check other games that have been in development for as long or longer than Star Citizen...

It's cool to be passionate about a video-game but it's not healthy to let the  "are we there yet" frustration get you down and be all grumpy about it!

Embrace it of forget about it that's my advice!

The fact that's been 6 years and no company has yet released something to complement your "need" for Squadron 42 should tell you that it will be worth the wait  :)

ETAs are completely meaningless at this point. They have been shown to actually lie about ETAs outright with full prior knowledge of their lies.

Even if they gave one, you would be an idiot to believe it.

The more the game is developed and the fundamental tech is worked on the easier it is to access an ETA.

You guys ever wondered why we don't know the release date of Cyberpunk 2077?
Seemed to be about done wasn't it?

CDProjekt Red is a studio running for 24 years and have just made Witcher1,2,3 for years straight, why can't they tell us a release date now?

How about Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2? It's only been in the works since 2008, what's the release date? Ubisoft been running for 30+ years, and have released 100+ titles, why can't they tell us the release date?

How about Starfield? Bethesdas Sci-Fi RPG, it's only been in the works for 10 years now! I mean Bethesdas been going for 30+ years and has more than 100 titles under it's belt why no release date?

Don't be frustrated by your own ignorance, not worth it.  B)

A very lame set of arguments.

SC actually has had many ETAs on SQ42. That's the fucking problem. They lied about them outright. Certainly they lied about the 2015 and 2016 release dates of SQ42 with prior knowledge that there was no chance of it.

All those other games haven't given defined release dates yet because they are still in development. Those other companies aren't trying to milk a gullible set of people with lies and misinformation.

Those other companies are building AAA products and then selling them to customers and letting the finished product speak for itself. SC is selling a dream and using lies to do it.

You're so nearly there, just a couple more steps Babs, you can do it....

Here I'll help you. If you understand that ETAs are so stupid then why is industry veteran/esteemed leader Chris Roberts giving them out?

Cmon don't be naive, both Cyberpunk, Beyound Good & Evil 2, Starfield or any other ambitious game has had many ETA's that were off by huge marks, you just don't know about them because they are discussed behind doors. Simple as that. What we have here is a severe case of ingenuity on how game development works by some gamers who somehow feel entitled enough to think they can dictate when a game is released through forum posting lol

You don't have to pre-order anything, you don't have to give money in advance based on "promises" or "etas". You can just stay put and enjoy your finished and officially released and reviewed "games".

Don't be frustrated by your own flaws, embrace them and learn from them. Do some research before investing in anything, both financially and emotionally, it will save you a lot of frustrations lol

Nope. Not the same. SC was public about it to fleece consumers.
  • BabuinixBabuinix Member EpicPosts: 4,442
SC was public on it's intentions of making the best game possible, it's consumers have been saying "YES" for 6 years to the tune of 30+ millions per year.

Disgruntled backers or frustrated bystanders are a minority of the minorities who, surprise surprise, are also always the ones who make the most noise lol

This we can at least agree on. A lot of consumers do apparently believe in the dream and give them huge sums of money.

The reason they get large sums of money is that they keep showing the dream taking shape, watch it unfold and play it as it evolves...

And backers like what they see/play so they keep supporting it.

The reason people get so engaged with Star Citizen is because they make you engaged, they go the extra length in sharing development with their weekly show's, their monthly reports, their Convention showcases etc

CIG didn't get this kind of support from thin air, it came from hard work and relentless engagement with it's community.

That's why you have hundreds of thousands of hours recorded of players having fun on youtube with multi-hour long gaming sessions enjoying Star Citizen for what it is now, a alpha game in heavy development that's got a long way to go but it's already capable of providing fun game sessions for players who like space/sci-fi in a high fidelity sand-box environment.

No, the "ingenuity" comes from those who refuse to acknowledge the differences in how Cyberpunk and the other titles are funded compared to SC.

The reality of how different titles are funded does not change the common reality of development, it won't magically mute the similarities between the process because of the differences in how projects as this are funded and announced.

That said, the argument should be properly addressed instead of dismissing it based on something of little impact to the core of the original point.

The difference is fundamental, which is why trying to compare the two is disingenuous.

Delays happen, but SC hasn't been delayed solely for mere routine development hiccups.  So even if they were comparable in funding, it's still disingenuous to compare unless you have some evidence that CDPR significantly delayed the game to increase its scope significantly.

No I like where MaxBacon is going with that train of thought. If all game dev is the same then the problem must stem from the top. This mean that the problem is actually Chris Roberts and anyone with good experience running a studio should be able to turn this shitshow around so all that’s needed is to boot Roberts out of his own company again.

Not only that, but a traditionally funded game answers to it's investors/publisher when they delay.  Crowdfunded games answer to the people that funded them.  If they do not like that then they should not take our money.

All episodes like this do is make me realize that Publishers/Beancounters actually play an important role in game development.  Maybe it was too big at some point, but leaving developers on their own has been a disaster.  This is not limited to SC by any means.
