I hate when things are deliberately locked behind a paywall
What a fucking tool.
As always you forget to mention context.
He was talking about gameplay. And after launch the Persistent Universe to our current knowledge has no "things deliberately locked behind a paywall".
Have fun
What about ships exclusive to backers?
What ships ARE exclusive to backers and will not be available in game once the game has launched ?
The Bengal carrier - which is not available for sale anyway (in game and out of game) ? Certain Vanduul ships (if some are captured) ... although there a retro-engineered human variants available for those.
Or maybe you mean "Life time insurance". LTI is not a ship. In my opinion insurance is a trivial cost sink anyway. So that would be at best a trivial advantage. Speaking from experience in EVE and E:D - insurance money is spare change.
And by the way - the backers ARE those that play this game at the moment :-) There are no others if there is no free fly weekend.
Have fun
So, you're saying there is incentive to be a backer before the game launches?
Yes. The incentive is to help create something special. Something that a lot of people have been waiting for for a long time.
And on the next day everything will most likely be free to watch on YouTube and Twitch.
Have fun
Which really isn't the same thing. As usual, you're defending anything CIG does.... even things as scammy as this.
I laugh at people crying out loud about some "exclusive" news that will be available for free hours (minutes ?) after it was officially announced. Wake up people. This is the Internet age. The age of the smartphone. Of "Periscope" streaming and YouTube. There is no such thing as a Paywall anymore, with all the pirate mirror sites and all that.
Erillion said: There are enough ATV shows that you could watch them 24/7 for weeks. So much for "cutting content".
For someone that talks about context you sure like to ignore it when it suits you...
Just because there are past videos that provide lots of content does not mean that they have not recently moved to producing considerably shorter ATV's aka cutting content....
ATV shows have always varied in length and have undergone many changes over time.
Constructing a conspiracy theory out of these changes has been a favorite pastime of certain people ever since Eric "Wingman" Peterson hosted the very first iteration of that show.
Have fun
Haha look at this troll...
Past videos were in the 30+ min range. Current videos are 10 mins with about 7 mins of content.
This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's how some people "feel" about it. Do you get the difference?
And on the next day everything will most likely be free to watch on YouTube and Twitch.

Noone thinks they won't get to see the footage. It's the fact that CIG found yet another way to milk money out of people interested in SC.

Past videos at some time were less than 30+ min. Formats change. All the time. Boo Hoo. Worlds comin to an end ..., repent sinners ... !!
I’m really not surprised in the least that CIG would pull this kinda shit. Also even less surprised that it’s being defended this hard lol.
Who wants to bet that that the livestream will still be a shitshow full of rookie mistakes and lol worthy moments? I’m sure a few goons have already paid so they can post the unedited footage for the rest of us to enjoy and laugh our asses off

Zyloh said the content will be available "eventually", not hours or minutes.
If it was minutes they would just allow live streaming, if it was hours they would struggle getting people to pay for it, therefore we can logically assume it will be somewhat more than minutes or hours.
What matters Erillion, and this is something you seem to forget because you're a subscriber getting this for free anyway, is that people want to be part of this, they've paid their money because it's meant to be open development and all the previous years have been open to all. Excusing this because you can just pirate it anyway is lame as hell, people want to support CIG officially but that doesn't mean they want to pay for the privilege of something that has always been about including everybody.

According to guestimates posted here about CIGs burn rate they need it.
My personal estimate is that they have about half a year in reserve (with 500 employees).
And on the next day everything will most likely be free to watch on YouTube and Twitch.

Other than a few things in life, noone really forces you to do anything. That doesn't mean you don't want things. People know this, you know this, and some of them take advantage of the fact that you want it. Some of them use more scammy ways than others. In the PC Gaming entertainment scene, it's hard to find another company that's as greedy in their ways to charge people for money than CIG.
You obviously are too involved in defending CIG for all these years to actually be honest and see what an awful greedy tactic this is.
This isn't good for our hobby.. in fact it's not good for anyone but CIG, yet here you are defending them again.

Well if they stopped burning money on the bullshit in the list you posted earlier and actually made a video game maybe they wouldn't have to charge most backers for a live stream of their most important event of the year.

EVERY game company (e.g. EA) offering mystery loot boxes is more greedy.
That is why now the law intervenes, at least in Europe.

People used to pay $50 for a computer game. Now, some spend thousands. Yes, crowdfunding has been a true blessing to the gaming world. The fact that the world is full of suckers doesn't mean it's right to take advantage of them.
