Started out with 7 people. Made 1 game which was their 1st game and look at them now. Take notes, this is how its done.
Every successful company has small roots - I am yet to hear of a company that starts of as s billion dollar 50,000 employee company on day 1 from scratch.
So "this is how its done" - literally every successful business ever
XD What company made their 1st game which was a mmo that went on to be as successful as BDO and has done what Pearl has done.
Pearl was an unknown company and made Black Desert which was a brand new unknown IP.
Not talking about roots. What other company did what Pearl has done.?
Hmm, besides CCP? Not sure.
Well to be honest they did create a board game first to help fund the MMO.
Found another, Turbine with Asherons Call.
It's been cited by Kano, but the poster isn't interested in those facts. They're interested in touting BDO as it's their favorite MMORPG.

The poster is interested in sources not what a person says. One day you all will understand how this works. Making statements without having sources to back up your statements is worthless.

What did Asherons Call do for Turbine? How successful was it and how much money did it make them? I want to know what did Asherons Call do for Turbine before they went on and to make other games.

You can look into these companies' histories easily yourself. Quit being lazy.
I have a sneaky suspicion any links provided will only have you grasping at straws to try and exclude them from your group of one.

If you make a claim you are the one that is supposed to back it up. Did this OP come here and say Pearl purchased CCP and expect us to just believe it or did they provide the full press release to show proof of what they are saying is legit?
You all still dont understand how all of this works.

No, you're just being willfully ignorant because the truth directly contradicts your "BDO is special!" narrative.
Heck even take a small company like Trion - their first game was Rift - unknown IP, unknown company - they made $100million in the first 6 months of Rift launch.
This is amazing news. I hope they ban a lot of the terrible community, especially everyone from somethingawful. And get rid of all the scammers, since in BDO its bannable to scam someone. So even if the gameplay stays the same (I doubt it. I think they'll finally add walking in stations and make the game a lot more fun and less spread sheet simulator)... the community is going to improve a lot if nothing else happens. Its well known EVE Online has one of the worst communities.
Best news for an MMORPG I've read in a long time.
Only BDO haters don't like it. But that is no surprise since MMORPG.com and reddit /r/mmorpg are full of MMO haters that hate every new MMO, and are stuck in the past of 1990s MMOs. But too bad for them that BDO still sells really good and new games and MMOs do better than old MMOs.

I didn't have an issue with the Tencent acquisition of GGG because I trust Chris Wilson and his statements regarding the impact. I didn't see anything from the CCP founders nor do I know how much the communicated directly with the playerbase.
Remember. It took 2 years for Blizzard to change WoW and also become focused heavily on microtransaction games after Activision took over. EVE Online will likely fall into the same time frame for gameplay changes (and gameplay changes can include cash shop changes as well)

I believe the payoff, if it happens, is Pearl Abyss gets the Asian Market, in Asia, to play this game. If they can do that, and understanding the Asian psyche when it comes to what they value and are willing to pay for, it will be billions. Of course, they have to wait for the new player base to mature, unless they allow paying for skill progression.
On the Western front, I don't see the changes to add more micro-transactions as the main driver to recouping the investment.
I have no idea about how P2W EVE is, but I hope CCP don't end up with "tapered P2W", in the beginning it seems there is not P2W but as you get into the game you realise that unless you want to spend your life grinding buying cash shop items and selling them on is the only way to upgrade your weapons and armour.
bdo wasn't like that before, it is now, since u can burn ur costumes for valks.
If they take steps to clean up the shit community so it isn't full of psychopaths, scammers, and schoolyard bullies, I'll definitely consider this a positive thing. I might even play it again. Hell, maybe we'll get meaningful PvE content like out of ship activities or a cohesive storyline. Maybe CCP will grow the balls to follow their vision of the game and not be bullied by a bunch of degenerates threatening to leave it for doing so.
Or maybe things will stay the same, and EVE will continue to attract mouth breathers who get off on scamming people, encouraging others to commit suicide, and making death threats. Who knows?

I just don't see how they can possibly get their investment back. A half a billion smackeroos is a LOT of money. It just seems like a foolish investment to me. But, I guess if you're going to cash out, then that's not a bad way to go.
I wish EVE well, but this seems like the end to me -- certainly, the end of an era.

I would add, NCSoft - Lineage
How about CCP, he even bought another company. It was a bad investment, still.
You couldn't help yourself could you?

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
