I'm sorry to see it go. I considered going back to it several times but never got around to it. I may go back just to take one last tour on the hoverboard. I think it had potential but the combat and community drove me away. It's sad. I loved the humor and the art and the over-the-top style. It had character, something that can't be said about other games.
Thank god. One more cash shop game going down the drain.
Wildstar was in the complete opposite of P2W. Please do you research before bashing the game for no obvious reason. I would rather have Aion shut down than Wildstar, because WS doesn't deserve to be closed at all.
Maybe they hate cash shops in general. some people just want a box price, subs and the ability to unlock everything by playing
Such a shame to close a game as good and big as Wildstar. You can see the work that went into that game… It's a shame they didn't grab the attention enough or the momentum to keep those players and make the needed changes…
I really hope they can bring it back someday with a major overhaul (aka No Man's Sky) It was an amazing game with some very bad decissions at core… buyt nothing they couldn't change… Oh Carbine…. Farewell and i hope you guys get back to work asap on other games.
Honestly though. Was more surprising how long it stayed up, seeing NCsoft's track record with low populated games (even if they are making money). Look at City of Heroes, it was doing good and died far faster than Wildstar did.
That was the biggest surprise out of Wildstar
My Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starbound and WoW + other game mods at MODDB:
I'm in a similar boat to a lot of people. I tried the game when it came out, and I tried it again after one of the re-launches. For me it was fun but...? New idea, certainly. And I ran around doing the quests and moving ever onward in the world.
But for the life of me I could not figure out why the game just never clicked for me. I've played a LOT of MMOs and subscribed to several at various points in my life. Heck, I still play Everquest with some friends along with a couple others. But Wildstar ... everything says I should have loved this game. But for some reason ... I dunno. I didn't dislike any of it. But nothing ever seemed to pull me in. And I don't know why.
I wonder how well this would have done had it not been a space mmo but more of a traditional knight, archer, mage kind. IMO the space ones don't seem to really resinate with people.
I loved Wildstar and it had such potential, but when your focus is on the 1% and then when they bounce and you don't actually give real content for 2 years this isn't surprising. I wish the best for the devs, and hopefully NCsoft sells the Wildstar Assets off to a team that will be dedicated to its rebirth and actual growth.
Always sad for the people that enjoy a game to lose it.
And surprised that NCSOFT tried as hard as they did to let this continue. I was thinking that they would close the door's before they tried to put it on steam.
Was just, as others stated, a game that missed the mark, for too many people, to do well enough to remain. One of those games that touch the , "something is just off" feeling in many people. They can not always say exactly what it was...it was many small feelings of just being "off".

The only reason why I tried it in the first place was that it was a space MMO since those were so rare.

They won't. They were offered millions for City of Heroes and turned it down. As many people said there was something "off" about the game and until that can be identified and fixed (if it can be) then trying to revive it is an exercise in futility.
At least it lasted longer than NCSoft's foray into those arena games that used Statesman and that one Chua.
For me this has always been the game that could rival WoW, sadly the guys in the costumes didn't listen to the community when the community said that it's too early to release the game... honestly this is probably the only game I've ever seen where the whole community was actually asking for delay instead of release... The game was exceptionally good with great ideas and if it was polished enough it would've been on equal footing with WoW no doubt about it.
What's worst is that NCSoft never took a stand and say "We promise not to shut down the game for "x period of time and we will release new content", so that people would actually start to play the game without the fear or wasting their time cause of a random shut down... I personally over the years wanted to pick it up a few times, but there was always uncertainty on whether the game will be alive tomorrow or not. In any other genre I wouldn't care and I would just play for fun, but in MMORPGs the knowledge that the game might shut down in 1-2 months is really off-putting for me.
For me this was the game I anticipated the most and I had a ton of fun with it, but the rush to release it because they saw that they can make a ton of cash from it ruined the game, but then again I don't think there is a game that NCSoft hasn't managed to ruin.
They screwed it up at launch, where the game was plagued by performance issues. Most people couldn't run the game, while it was practically a WoW like stylized game.
There were also plenty of other issues and they were too slow to address them, that by the time the game became better it was too late.
This in the wake where NCSoft shut down games without mercy like Tabula Rasa and City of Heroes, people are just afraid to return to Wildstar for the ever fear of it suddenly being shut down.
This was actually the main reason I never dared to return, as I expected the game to be shut down years ago. I am honestly surprised it was still up and running.

Same here. I may boot it up one last time to take a hoverboard tour through things like I did in CoH. Then again way back in the day of Earth and Beyond I was going to do the same thing when that was being sundowned and couldn't bother with it (but in my defense, there wasn't much to look at in that game).
When you campaign against WoW, you really campaign against 100 million+ blizzard fans
I’m not a blizzard fan and never liked wildstar I’m happy the crap is officially dead. I called it since release that it was crap and loudmouth fans of it called me names that’s what you get it...
Show me on this Chua where they hurt you...
You're the one that's hurt, I'm happy seeing this good news. Another bullshit game down the toilet.

The PvE was weird for most people, personally loved PvP though. PvP generally doesn't keep much people around.
