It depends on what items. If it's just a subscription where a given player can only use one per month, then yes, definitely. If it's random boxes where you can realistically trade the items you got for the items you actually wanted, then perhaps, though I don't like random boxes in a cash shop regardless. If it only serves to make whales more dominant than before because they can then buy all the non-cash shop items that matter, too, then no.
I think it makes it better for people who don't want to use the cash shop. Some people would rather grind than pay all the time and it means they can.
I'm all for it, to be honest. We'd be better off without cash shops altogether but they aren't going anywhere. Making sure there's a way to get those things without paying is a good thing for players who don't want to constantly dump money on a game and gives lots to spend the infinite currency on at endgame.
I spend plenty on MMOs but I don't think I've ever spent real money to get a cosmetic in my life. But, in a game like SWTOR, I've obtained tons of the ones from the cash shop as a side activity.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Can't say I am a fan. The moment you can trade in game for anything you bought with real money, you now have a real money based game economy which, depending on what you can buy would probably be P2W.
It is funny in a non-haha way to consider Asheron's Call with Subscriptions on the tradebots and wondering just how many granite blocks, steel, or sing keys would actually buy a sub.
Do you think cash shops are better when items bought through them can be traded/sold in game? Why, or why not?
Don't really care, except games like BDO where it's not worth selling Cash Shop items due to market cap, and no player to player trading.
Sure it prevents gold sellers, but when you pay like $20-$30 USD per costume you can sell for like 100-140 mil max and meanwhile the person who buys it and turns into cron stones for a 200+ Mil profit although bound it's not worth selling for that price which is why you can never really actively find a lot of cash shop items on the market.
Sure it's great Warframe has player 2 player, and plat trading assuming you never get caught up in a scammer who commits fraud and receive currency in a trade it's not an issue, but then i've only had that happen in one game so far, every other game including War Frame, is great when it comes to buying and selling items for plat.
And personally I could careless about gold selling in games, or cash shop items being able to be traded in fact it opens it up for players who can't afford Real Money in a game to obtain the items the exception being BDO i'd rather donate $30 in a costume to a friend or clan member than list it on the market because it's just not worthit especially now that people can just snipe from a player who could really use the costume and turn it into cron stones.
Having a free market prevents this and promotes higher values, at least a item should be able to be priced at around 200+ mil thus preventing people from making a profit if people turn it into cron stones they lose the same amount of money.
