2 hours worth of game footage has been leaked (hilariously on porn video sites). YouTube channel Less Than Epic has compiled some of the footage for folks to take a look at.
This looks a lot more like a straight survival game more than anything else at the moment.

How do you feel about the game play in the video?18 votes
Being that it's so early in alpha and being that it's Amazon I have a feeling there will be more to it.
I'm not playing with the expectation that there will be, but I wouldn't be surprised. If they do PvE elements as polished as they have the survival elements it will be interesting indeed.
So far it looks and plays like a dream. Even if it ends up being survival only it's got a damn good foundation. I won't play it if that's the case....but I can appreciate quality.
I kind of expected since there's occultism and fictional creatures in the game that there would be more of a mysterious/magical aspect to the game play. Maybe even big research/investigation opportunities like The Secret World. It's way too early to tell but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit disappointed
The crafting and gathering looks solid. The aesthetics looks decent. The combat does 0 for me, but again it's too early to tell. I honestly hope it doesn't turn into a fort kicking simulator. It kind of looks like Conan Exiles in a different setting. Meh.

i am always looking forward for open world games, most of the times such games are made by small indie studios, with low budget, and development or changes takes ages to achieve. I like the fact that amazon studios take this risky idea and try to make something out of it! It doesnt look like all the other mmos. And the product what i have seen so far is really, really attractive. Cant wait to try it
It's obvious that there's quality in there and attention to detail, but will it be interesting to play? Need more info, if it's a Conan Exiles copy then I can't see myself being interested...
While I'm sure Amazon wants to make good games, I think their larger strategy is get all the developers using their engine, with hiring big names in the industry and making games as just part of that strategy. So I would think good and solid is higher on their list then new and different.

Their engine and their hosting solutions. Their goals are nothing less than utter world domination and turning humanity into what was pictured in WALL-E.

There have been small server MP games that have this type of features. There has NOT been one Sandbox MMO with this setup and freedom properly on current standards yet.
If you want to go play small survival servers on this pvp setup with this sort of features then go ahead, because New World is not that, it's mean to grab this survival and sandbox elements and put them on an MMO scale.
It's around the lines of Life is Feudal MMO, only with a proper developer and good game engine, the game runs and looks better than what I expected at this stage.
And yes, this is aiming more on the design of games like Life is Feudal or Reign of Kings, the open world, the territory conquest and development, the economy, etc...

Worse than Wall-E, more like The Matrix except if there were 4 different brands fighting over human assets. It isn't just them, it's Apple, Intel and Google too. Those 4 are at the top in a literal arms race in regard to cloud computing and even scarier, Deep Learning/AI.
Between the big 4, almost every single cutting edge startup has been acquired and swallowed up.

Amazon developing one MMO technology on the cloud, that on Lumberyard will make a huge impact because no engine available around is prepared for large-scale MP technology without requiring the devs to develop their own networking solutions.

Scale is supposed to be the key element of this game (i.e. there are other survival games, but none on this scale). However, it is yet to be seen if they were able to implement this in a manner that provides a competitive edge.

The scale it currently has already overcome the offer around, the ongoing development it's going to expand on that.
It easy overcomes the other survivals, things on this scale start to bring a huge relevance to economy and trade
