Intel CPU prices are rising

Seems that Intel's 14nm process is just not producing enough CPU at present.  You have to wonder if they are having issues with that process line.  Sure makes the AMD offerings look good.  Wonder if this will also affect the I9 availability?

    My lack of desire to purchase an i9 should more than offset any product issues they may be experiencing at 14nm.

    They better do something or else AMD will inch ever closer... Which is what I want anyway. Ryzen is a heck of a line.

    keep in mind where Intel makes 1 chip for 1 cpu, AMD used multiple chips for 1 cpu. When AMD also uses 1 chip, then the gap has been closed.

    That's true for AMD's Threadripper and Epyc HEDT and server chips, but not for their mainstream consumer lines.  Furthermore, the reason AMD goes with a multi-chip module is that their chips are much smaller.  Unless you decide to count the interposer, the silicon area it takes AMD to make a CPU is comparable to what it takes Intel.

    When they initially decided how much fab capacity to build, they expected not to still need very much on 14 nm by now, as most stuff would already be on 10 nm and moving to 7 nm.  Instead, they had to move from four cores to six and then eight on the same process node, which means more die space per CPU, and fewer dies per wafer.  This is just one more way that not being able to move to a new process node when they needed to hurt them badly.
