I will not get tired of saying that the last couple of years have been golden for any fan of classic-inspired cRPGs, myself included. Between Obsidian’s Tyranny and PoE2: Deadfire and Larian’s Divinity 2: Original Sin, gamers were able to visit beautiful fantasy worlds and dive right into a variety of problems. It is time for Pathfinder: Kingmaker to join that list.

Just like Baldur's Gate.
The game is fun though and quite difficult. However, it could definitely use some QoL improvements.
Its the first game i have ever played where i was genuinely afraid to go explore new areas because i was worried i'd break the game lol.
It will be a good game if/when they manage to patch it up.

These type of games are coming out in drones because pretty much ANY upstart dev can make them, especially with all the free software and assets floating around.
I do NOT want 20x20 grid maps,i want long viewing open worlds, the way a rpg SHOULD be.I would also NOT expect to see through the top of a roof, this all ruins immersion and just looks cheap.
Give me a world and characters that would make me think i am really role playing in a realistic world.
Wow was a first effort,FFXI was a first effort,EQ was a first, are we trying to say this game comes even remotely close? Not a chance in hell, this is rubbish game development, just cheap low cost ,low risk.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
these games appeal to a certain crowd, don't like it? Just move on then and not buy it
It's a good game but Divinity Original Sin 2 are far better.
What games do you actually enjoy? I don't think I've ever seen you say something positive about anything on this site....
Since every game is so shitty why don't you make a good one and show us what they look like....or just keep talking shit....you pretty good at that....

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

Well, they've put out patches/hotfixes every couple of days since launch. There were 2 yesterday, in fact. You might want to give it a go again, see where it's at.
I also appreciate knowing how dangerous the system is set up for failure. Seems very easy to lose and that for me is something that makes a game less interesting to me. I understand for certain genres but this sounds brutal. I hate hidden timers. What do they really add to the fun? They are just a frustration to me.
This review has helped me know that not having the game yet is probably the best for me as I want to play it.
Pillars of Eternity 1 was average at best. Lackluster story and bad combat system. Pillars of Eternity 2 was a great improvement over the original formula. Complete voice overs were great.
Tyranny I tried 3-4x, just couldn't get into it. By now (2018), if you're not voicing over the majority of your dialogue, I just don't care to play it.
Divinity Original Sin 2 was the most over-hyped piece of garbage out there. This game felt like a slightly enhanced version of Neverwinter Nights. It was slow, clunky, goofy, combat was outright boring, and everything about it felt generic.
Pathfinder is okay. But it just feels to slow when compared to BG2 or PoE in terms of the engine. Your movement is slow, combat is slow (and I don't mean action-wise, I just mean the engine is slow-moving). Everything feels like you're treading through molasses. Honestly, the customization was great ... but I just didn't care. Maybe I'm past these types of games in my life.
Like some others have said, while there's plenty of room for these types of games, developers should take what was done in the past and push the envelop forward; try and break new ground. You can do a lot of good stuff with isometric 2D games--especially with background rendering. But they want to adhere to these 1998 formulas and simply settle on nostalgia rather than really make a modern game while still honoring some past elements. Most of the games are mediocre at best, and so long as developers continue retreading the old days and not doing anything new, they never will be more than that. It's like movies today: you can't make greatness out of things that were great 20 years ago. You'll fall short every time. Make something new and original if you really want to make waves.
You can take the old and make it new. Or you can simply recycle the old. None of these games do anything but the latter, unfortunately, while Baldur's Gate 2 (at the time) was paving new roads. And that's why all these throwback titles are only ever going to be so good.
Anyway. Pathfinder to me? 5.5 or 6.0 at best. Too buggy, too slow. I don't feel like spending 10 mins to walk from Point A to point B simply because my character is stuck in a tar pit for no reason other than to add playtime to the campaign length. At least PoE2 had a speed option in game.
I liked POE, and DOS alright. I tried the free week-end of Tyranny and even at the price it is I just can't get into it. I did find I enjoyed the original Baldur's gate a lot one I got used to the interface and recalled some D&D rules from that period. The new games were exciting but didn't keep me hooked.
Pathfinder had me hooked and I don't want that ruined by the current patching mess etc.
