Trions been making bad choices and shitting on there player base for a few years now , This has been expected for awhile is really not a very big deal at all..Matter a fact there are numerous threads on this site from the past year that could be pointed to where Trions desperation and trouble were pointed out ..
"In 2013, a strategic reorientation of gamigo is taking place. Investments in high-risk game development are being stopped and a new platform strategy concentrating on game publishing is being introduced. A further goal is to reach a critical mass by focusing on growth through acquisitions."
And acquire companies they have. 20+ now. Maybe there will be more?
No biggie to me. Trion's games were already the worst sorts of micro transaction junk right up there with Cryptic Studios, Turbine Inc. and Perfect World International.
Trion is only publishing it, it would revert back to XLGames if Trion was to shut down, though there is the question now about what happens to Archeage, is XLGames okay with Gamigo, the licence could be discontinued after all.

meh I doubt xl cares enough about the game, if they did it would be on the state it was and is, as long money is passed all is well I bet, unless its a good way to get control without a fee and so they will hack on more money
This year has been brutal in terms of instability in video game industry.
Lots of rumblings about something imminent about to go down
Stay tuned.
P.S.
Maybe this year will be the one to be the catalyst for change inside
the video game industry as far as change needed to introduce some
stability, as at this rate - developers will keep bailing and leaving
the industry for something more stable.
if this news is what DMKano was talking about it's not anything earth shattering as I feel was implied.
Trion started out okay and then went downhill pretty fast, I tried Trove, rift, archeage and bought Defiance way back...not impressed and not a big deal or super unexpected IMO all considering.
Now I get this might be big news to the 200 or so people that work there but lets face that's a fart in the wind in the grand scheme of things. Not being callous but lets face it... no one here is really going to lose sleep over the lost jobs.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Xlgames is the owner of Archeage and have a different publisher in other country. I see in Xlgames Korean website, Archeage have a lot of content coming and they made a friendship of Kakao games.
The biggest bad decision by Trion was the deal with XL to publish Archeage. There were other options in the time period and Scott chose wrong. AA has been a thorn in their sides since. Welcome to curse of the bad decision. Now gamers will be forced into more unacceptable circumstances.

This Gamigo sounds a lot like Daybreak, doesn't it? At least, dead and dying games have options as to where they can go. If I were cynical enough, I'd make an observation about Heaven and Hell, but I'm not that cynical. Besides, it sounds like a lot of work to determine which would be which.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
WTH is a Gamigo? Never heard of the company before now.
Any who, hopefully the employees let go land on their feet.
They are a german F2P publisher that focuses on F2P mostly asian mmos. In the last few years they seemed to focus more on browser mmos rather than client base mmos.
They are far bigger, older and better known that Trion themselves. They just deal with crappy mmos, now more than before. I played many from their older portfolio (almost a decade ago), most of which are closed now. I stopped playing Fiesta Online after Gamigo took the reigns.
Gamigo is Aeria Games for those wondering. So games like S4 League, Aura Kingdom, Echo of Soul, Ironsight, etc.
I'm pretty sure all they wanted from Trion was TROVE, it's highly successful and fits their profile.
I forgot they merged a while ago... I had stopped playing both Gamigo and Aeria games long before that merge.
I agree, i can see them focusing on Trove. Since Trion doesn't own Archeage i doubt they will do anything with it. XL games will probably get another publisher... probably.

Having abandoned development ...
