Red Dead Redemption 2, Game changer or Hype ?

JeffSpicoliJeffSpicoli Member EpicPosts: 2,849
So I have been reading the past few days how Read Dead Redemption 2 is suppose to have a game world that is unlike any we have played before. Not in terms of graphics or size but in terms of how the world reacts and how you interact with it. I think the most interesting quote was  Rockstar has created not so much an open-world game as an open-life one, where you live as your character. Now we have heard this before but i dont think Iv heard it from so many people that have actually played the game.  So what do you think, Is this Hype or will RDR2 be a game changer in the open world genre ?

There's an article detailing how Rockstar claims that the horses' balls shrink when the weather gets colder in game.

Literally, they spent time on horse ball weather interactivity.

You ever lived around horses? Huuuuuuge. I'd go so far to say that it would surprise me if they shrank at all because they're so big. Hung like a horse is an expression for a reason.
Hung like a Horse = Penis, not balls, but ok :)

Well I haven't the gonads to not buy this now. I was hanging loose on a purchase now, waiting until it dropped on PC (BTW I'm pretty testes about having to wait).  But Holy Scrotum Batman!  That looks amazing!

Yes, they have huge penises and correspondingly large testicles. You can always google it.
Not when it's snowing in RDR2, apparently. :D

I heard comment about this the other day and they basically said players are setting themselves for huge disappointments with this game. I find myself agreeing. The hype train on RDR 2 is running off of the tracks, out of control.

It may be a great game, even a game changer. But what many players are saying it will be is highly improbable. I see a lot of RDR 2 backlash in the near future....

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

After watching a few streamers play (not buying, myself), it shows it is a video game.

Doors always open away from the player. I don't know if this a problem with interaction distance, but go into a house, the door opens inward. Go back outside and the door open outward. I've gotten stuck between doors and walls enough in Skyrim to know this can cause problems.

Here is a clip of Strippin, aka Sam, getting mauled by a bear. He lives, but never goes to a doctor. This is the Wild West, not some fantastical magical healing world.

I've seen every streamer I've tuned into smash their horse into rocks and/or trees, fall off of cliffs, and generally abuse the hell out of them. The horse always returns when whistled for. I don't think I've seen a horse die yet. Dan, of DansGaming was asked, "What's your favorite part of the game?" He answers as he's riding hard and fast, "This!" and runs his horse into a rock.

RDR 2 has made great and awesome strides in getting little details into the experience, but there is still a lot of room to go :)

The "drunken bar" scene in Valentine with you and Lenny is awesome and I've laughed hard every time I watched it. Other scenes (not quite cut scenes, though heavily scripted) are cinematically gorgeous as you "ride with the gang" and conversation is taking place while the camera pans to different views, highlighting the artists hard work.

I'm just saying that the game has made many, many strides forward, but there is still a lot of room to grow :)

Wanna buy it, but I don't play my PS4, I don't have the upgraded model, and I'd rather see if Rockstar plans on bringing it to the PC.

I'm thinking the wait will give me time to upgrade my PC once again, and by the time it releases (if they do indeed port it) it'll be a buttery smooth experience for me to enjoy.

Companion app hints of a PC version.

I heard a comment the other day where some people just like to talk out their ass for no other reason than to be negative.

Hey can you point me to this backlash you were referring to because I cant seem to find it anywhere.

I would agree that RDR2 sets a new bar for open world games (here's looking at you Elder Scrolls VI). I'm very interested to see how they implement Red Dead Online next month.

same way they did it with GTA? i'd say don't bet on the story part to have multi player.

I've been playing it a bit, it's pretty and the voice acting is ok. So far the story is well done, but for me it's just not "fun". I really want to like it, I do. but like GTA I just don't have any fun. oh well I tried.

When you have stellar hype like this there is bound to be disappointment, we get wishful thinking when people start developing a MMO and nobody has even played it yet, so when people say a game is really good our expectations go through the roof of the saloon. :)
