I thought a while back they said they were going for a younger version. Why are we comparing old man to the young man? Not saying that he looks great or anything but why compare when you don't know what your comparing? Why not pull an image from witcher 1?

It's funny cause it's canon that he doesn't like his beard for a long time. The games gave him a beard but they take place after the novels. This series is during the novels I believe.

The games are the reason why Netflix did the series. That's the biggest reason. Henry wanted to do the role because he is a fan of the games he said so himself. So although I get it about the books thing, but I really do not think most of the witcher fans are folks who have read the books. Most of them have only the games as reference so its okay if they expect the games version of The Butcher of Blaviken portrayed on screen.
The books were not very popular until the games exposed them. Maybe in poland but poland to the rest of the world isnt a very big chunk. Book people would have a point if the books were big hits worldwide, but they werent. The Witcher games (mainly 3) are worldwide successes compared to the books. Netflix should cater to the Fans of the Games as that seems to be what most people want to see. Add some of the book stuff sure but follow the games mostly.
Maybe season one is the Origin story of Geralt which they should take from the books. All other seasons should be from the games.

1. This is clearly some early preproduction pic, it's still NOT a character as it will be in the series, he even lacks the scar and this wig is not ready .
2. Stop it with the bloody beard. Book Geralt was clean shaven. Always.
3. Mads Mikkelsen, while a good actor would be way too old. Again, it's book Geralt, younger by quite a few years. It's even stated in books, that due to mutation he aged more slowly, and in books he's about HALF the age he is in games. Of course he will look way younger.
Look things up people before you start complaining.

While i have played the Witcher games, mostly after Witcher 3 was such an out and out success, until the lawsuit from the Author, i wasn't even aware that there were any books, since then it is my understanding that the Witcher books are largely unknown outside of Poland, i think it is inevitable that when people think of The Witcher, Geralt in particular, they will associate it more with the Game rather than a series of books they probably didn't even know existed, the Netflix series is more likely to be judged by viewers based on the games which they are far more likely to be familiar with and not the books if they are even aware there are differences, which as i haven't read any of the books i have no idea if there are any, other than anecdotally those that have been mentioned here in this thread.
It seems to me that this game is being made for the mass market and so certain things are to be expected. I don't think it's aimed at fans of the books and certainly not the game.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

A guy like him has to be convinced the money is worth more than his pride.
Book readers and gamers usually always want the movie to be a copy/paste of the book or game because they really liked the books or game and want more.
What happens is that you end up with a three hour movie because it adds in all the details put into the books and games so people who have never read the books or played the games can understand the movie. It's either that or go to the movie with someone who has read the books or played the games and know the lore can explain to you whats going and what all the usual things are in the movie, if you haven't done it yourself which is usually the majority.
A lot of directors and producers usually have their own vision or interpretation of the material, just like how singers often change the way they sing popular songs, they want to put their own creative interpretation into the song. Most artist don't like to copy/paste material.
