They've seen quite a drop in playerbase for their game catalogue

LOL, are you really calling out a 1.98% quarter on quarter player base drop something of significance?

So far I've seen the recent share price decline blamed on the D3 mobile announcement, lower than expected upcoming 4th quarter earnings, now it's due to reporting a minor drop in active player numbers.

With "all" of this bad news, it's a wonder the stock didn't drop 50% by now.

A great reason you should never visit reddit looking for news.

Well, it does go in line that the WoW sub # leak for europe/NA (it didn't include asia) probably wasn't actually fake like some said it was.

Also while it was posted on reddit, it was actually on CNBC which is a legit news source. Unless you are one of those "fake news" people that troll the internet.

This post shows I'm a mass target for harrassment on this site because people are afraid of my point of view of what MMOs are or are not (like destiny etc) and people don't like me. You didn't post in any other thread that it wasn't worth making for a post, just mine. Like why not post in "blizzard is not your friend", that has less signifant content than this thread but its still worthwhile post I think. But I'm not gonna post there saying its junk just cause I think its pointless.

I hope you get banned or warned for targeted harrassment, since I flagged it.

The other poster I noticed that gets targetted by negative posts and harrassment is that delete person with whatever numbers after his name. Plus a few posters over the years that discussed what an MMO was or not and people here didn't agree with it so mass harrassed them until he was perma banned cause oh no a different view of what an MMO is or not.

This was discussed "yesterday" in this thread:
    https://www.mmorpg.com/news/activision-blizzard-investors-sell-off-stocks-after-cautious-earnings-expectation-for-q4-revealed-1000050475#vanilla-comments

The MAU drop - over 200M in the last 2 years - is driven by King; pushing 50% if you go back a bit more. King - the makers of Candy Crush, Farmville etc. Blizzard's numbers however have also declined in that time. Anyway - see the above thread.

A loss of 7 million is quite a bit depending how large the portfolio is.
I can say with 100% accuracy that Hearthstone has lost a LOT of players.I know some big names now sharing time between HS and MTG and some big names have completely left the game as well there are at times much longer que times than before.

I often wondered what would happen to the game if que times become too long, like 2+ minutes.A change in game design or just a steady fallout.I am not surprised Hearthstone is dying out,i am way more surprised it took this long. The cost to play is way over the op and UNWARRANTED greed. It would not be so bad or so much greed if these were paper cards and we owned them, instead it is just digital, once you make one copy it doesn't cost anymore to make.

Overall i do not see much to worry about,Blizzard's games are imo very low cost games,it is not costing them much to make them. The problem is they do carry  a lot of overhead cutting into some of that profit.
The question is still there,WHY are investors starting to pull out?You don't worry about going from billions to still millions, your still filthy rich and still doing quite well.So somehow they see a bigger long term picture where the stock will lose so much value they will be freaking out,so some getting out now while it's still good.

At times I wonder if you and delete are related in some manner as you employ similar "logic" in your posting and believe you are being targeted for special persecution.

If you are going to paint big targets on yourself don't be so surprised when people start shooting arrows at it.

It is not without good reason I don't often create a new thread, and when I do I try to make one that is a bit entertaining and doesn't condemn something or someone's point of view.

    I miss the mark occasionally.

They’ve been losing me a bit more each year to the point now where idk if I can be brought back into the fold. I don’t have faith that they can make anything worth a damn anymore. Even if they drop a D4 I doubt it will innovate enough to capture my attention for long. But I suppose that goes for most games nowadays.

I'm a unique and beautiful snowflake.

Well... the previous quarter included the launch of an expansion... by now a bunch of those who came back just for the new content are bailing again (moi included). So I wouldn't be too surprised by that.

The MAU figure is driven by King.

You are not wrong. At the end of 2015 AB reported Hearthstone alone had 40M+ and now all Blizzard games are at 37M.

Large those Blizzard's numbers are they are dwarfed by those of King which have plunged. From 550M in mid-2015 shortly before Activision Blizzard bought them to 263M now. A drop of well over 200M.

Now having pushed MAUs as a key metric AB are doing what they can to control the damage and put a good spin on things. For example they reported that the  average session time of Activision, Blizzard and King games was now a record 50-odd minutes. Its just sums though. Sessions of Candy Crush etc. tend to be short and they have lost hundreds of millions - as a result the average playtime has gone up. However its presented as "growth".

In reference to the topic of the thread. I don't give a crap about Blizzard's declining numbers. I think they'll be just fine. All they have to do is release a new type of game on PC and everyone will be like, "Oh, Blizzard, where have you been all my life?"

I would expect some drops with the reallocating of focus from pc to mobile. I'll expect some huge gains once they successfully transition to mobile.
