The Funcom financial call is over and it's been a great year for the company anchored by the success of Conan Exiles. In fact, Funcom "is free of any interest-bearing debt as of 4 October 2018 for the first time since 2009". The report also included a peek ahead at a number of titles in development.

Good for Funcom, Anarchy Online is the best character building MMoRPG to this day and Age of Conan is a fun game and still holds up graphics wise.

They have made some fine games, but the multiplayer ones have had their flaws. They would be a loss to the industry no matter what some posters say.

I admire their moxie, despite the many challenges they've brought the company back from the brink.

With reportedly 6 titles in development they might be one of the few smaller companies not begging for change to build new games.

I love most Funcom games. The only problem I have with them is they are pretty bad at patching out bugs. They definitely support their games way after the game is considered "dead" though which is great. I'm excited to try out all of the new games. One of the few companies I will try everything they put out.

This can be taken a couple ways.
They spent more money trying to make a good mmorpg in Conan so their profit margin was low.

They put VERY little effort into Exiles but stirred up enough marketing interest they easily turned a good profit.

When i see 6 titles in development, that is really scary,no way in hell do they have the manpower or money to pull that off.So they are "imo"making 6 really cheap games, likely a bunch of mobile,ARPG junk.

NCSoft is doing the same thing, all of their recent MMO news is mobile bound.  The bandwagon is in full swing and I'm sure Funcom is jumping on with most if not all of those 6 projects being for the mobile market.

I actually decided to look at the report and it is sketchy to read.

The main target number i looked at was cash INFLOW...2.6 million but they invested 3.7 million into future games.

That is a net LOSS,not sure how they construed the 7.5 million REVENUES to sound like their best year ever.

So then i look at 3.7 million into 6 future games,,,umm yeah VERY CHEAP games.Perspective FFVII many many years ago cost 50+ million.

The SHOOTER game?Incoming another Battle Royale.

wow, unreal. funcom's PS4 Conan Exiles is still broken and unplayable.  they keep pumping out cosmetic content and broken features of the game that was suggested as part of the launch. at least bungie/destiny had a working game on console day one.

glad i could help funcom pay off their debt, it will be the last time i buy anything from them though. with 6 more projects in the pipe i bet they will be in debt again.

Very happy to hear this. Funcom is a great studio and publishes some of my favorite games. Was worried a while back when I heard about their money problems, so it's good to see this.

This company has been saved repeatedly during the past couple of decades by a private party in Norway who has a strong desire to see a Norwegian game company survive.

They've received multi million dollar injections from this unnamed private party several times, most recently in 2016 when they received over 6 million after the abject failure of their Lego game.  Also, that same year, they artificially reduced their debt through a debt conversion scheme that allowed 7 million in USD debt to drop off of their financial sheets.

From an interview with Godager in 2015 regarding Norwegian investments into Funcom:

The third reason was that the amount of money they were investing was just pocket change, at least to one of our investors. He's still an investor, and we're a listed company, but he hasn't sold any shares. He could have sold a lot of shares many times, but he hasn't; it doesn't matter to him. He can spend ten times as much, and that'll still only be third of an oil rig or whatever.

In other words, before anyone gets hyped up that Funcom games are suddenly actually profitable, this has happened to the company many times.  It's just that one of their primary investors is willing to keep the company floating and waiting for that Overwatch, LoL, or WoW level game to roll out of Funcom and make him billions richer.

Personally, I'm one of the people that wants to see Funcom and especially Conan titles succeed.  I'm a huge fun of REH's Conan stories, and I honestly wish more than anything that the company would drop a huge selling title so that they could spend some money making Age of Conan great again.

I am very excited about Mutant Road to Eden. It's my kind of game. Funcom is a company that has remarkable ideas. Anarchy Online was way ahead of it's time it 'jumped the shark' in a way. Unfortunately their games are buggy and this hurt them a lot. Glad to see they hung on and did not go under.
