I liked ARK well enough but the dino thing was just not for me. Plus my kid is playing on my local save. (I am sure I can rename folders).
This theme is more like what I am looking for. For the price I will get my money's worth I am sure. It was funny watching the trailer and then watching a stream and seeing people looked like . . well ARK castaways.
It will be fun to mess around in while I finish Subnautica and wait for Pathfinder to get finished.
Looks like a Pirate Ark - exactly what I expected it to be so i'm happy. I've put thousands of hours playing Pokemon and Bob Vila in Ark .. hopefully Atlas will provide the same amount of enjoyment. I loved Sea of Thieves but the game was a puddle.
Umm Steam NEVER does weekend pops for a new game EVER, and no way in hell Steam will release it on Christmas Eve which is Monday so do not expect this anytime before middle of next week if even then.

I played Atlas for a bit. Haven't been able to play today cause of the servers. But it was weird..cause I have some videos on my channel I got an invite. But I don't even stream rofl. And my best video has 100k views, maybe they saw that one cause it was from Ark. But I'm not actually a streamer, but oh well I was glad to be able to play so can't complain

Well, the islands could use more variety...its a lot of copy/paste islands
As someone who didn't like Ark, this game is a TON better. I thought Ark was dumb, but that is partly cause I like pirates more than what Ark was. Granted I love dinosaurs more than pirates, but I want to BE a dinosaur not tame them (like Beasts of Bermuda that just came out where you can play as a dino, or Lizardmen in Warhammer Total War).
The ocean aspect of this game is VASTLY better than AC Odyssey, at this point not nearly as good as AC Black Flag (vastly superior pirate game), and a big part of that is the severe lack of variety of islands. AC Black flag also has a ton more ocean and actual pirate content than in this game, and a ton more content overall.
So to sum it up
Superior to Ark, also vastly better than AC Odyssey...not nearly as good as a pirate game and a severe lack of content and island variety compared to AC Black Flag which still remains the superior pirate game and still remains the superior ocean game

With that said. I am glad I spent the money on it. Though a lot of that is gambling on if they update it a lot and make an amazing game out of what they have. Its already really good, but definitely needs more variety in the islands as that is the biggest thing for me

I just got a 1 minute taste, after finishing character creation making a goblin with a pointy nose and pointy ears Rack Jackham logged into the game on some small cliffs over some island inlet and ran around a bit as it was small and fell off into the water. After getting his bearings and figuring out how to swim he saw a white female panther swimming across the short river like finger only then to get crashed to loading screen.
Rack Jackham will be trying again I assure you of this.
I was able to get back in on the same eu server, still trying to get off the cliff so not anywhere populated but i am running a gtx660 so this isnt bad when their low end said 770
Got in for a bit, maximum fps is 13, on max settings and on minimum settings. I run BDO Remastered at 50+ fps at all times. Rubberbanding is also severe at the moment. Punched some trees, tried to figure out how to sleep, will be putting in some more time otnight trying to make sense of it all.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
