Reviews are consumer's expressions of how they experience the game and so reviews are never wrong. They are never right either. Whether they're right or wrong depends on the person who reads the review and how that person experienced the game.
They can be factually right or wrong but consumer reviews are not about the facts. They're about the experience.
I wrote a bad review because of how they handled the release, the countdown, nothing, little communication, streamers first. What is this? Game companies didn't deal with consumers this way even during FREE beta testing which they were thankful to have us for. Now you PAY for beta testing and they treat you like sh*t.
So I wrote a review based on my experience. If they treated us differently I probably would have tolerated A LOT more before writing a review.
Yeah but, you are basically bashing the game experience because of something outside the game experience. You said yourself.
I think those issues need to be adressed, I just think people are just talking about them and forgeting about the game. That's not informative at all.
"Readers be aware that..." could solve it.
I don't think a shitty company decision should impact a gameplay experience analysis when said decision does not impact the gameplay experience.
I'm more interested in read about the gameplay experience itself rather than people focusing on outside issues. I want to know if tornados tosses you up in the sky. I want to know the rules of engagement, pvp issues, how much depth the building mechanics have and so on.
I'm against Early Alpha and such, but I'll cut some slack because the game is not a full triple A price tag, and it has a price cut over that. So they are not charging for a full game. That's pretty clear... Yeat people keep screaming as they were. So, I don't know, it seems people want to be mad at something for the sake of being mad at something.
It would've been cool to have the devs do interviews or livestreams detailing their systems as well, but that's really tough to do when you announce a game and tell folks you plan on releasing a week later.
Folks got the same classic ARK level optimization of the game. That's been the biggest complaint from gamers (EDIT- up until recently, I should say, when the land claim issue seems to have taken over that spot), and it was no secret to anyone including the developer. Releasing a game so similar to ARK, including the optimization issues, was an obvious recipe for backlash. We seem to wanna talk about a party that should be entering the transaction with a realistic idea about what to expect, how about turning that towards the only party who actually knew full well what the product was like when they released it?
This is where they went wrong and this is why it ultimately is their fault for misrepresenting the state of the game:
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Everything in the features section will be there around Early Access Launch and the game will be an unparalleled massively multiplayer experience from Day One.”

The problems listed MIGHT be excusable as an early access thing if these were not some of the problems that were in ARK's early access and still plague ARK today. I am not sure this game studio should be given another chance until they actually show they learned something other than "players are suckers and will give us money anyway".
I look at comments about ATLAS now and it is just ARK all over again. Call for "optimization" all you want. You will only get excuses until it is too late. Whether or not the game itself is just an ARK DLC, Wildcard is still Wildcard and I am not letting them fool me twice.
Reviews are consumer's expressions of how they experience the game and so reviews are never wrong. They are never right either. Whether they're right or wrong depends on the person who reads the review and how that person experienced the game.

What I said in my review was entirely right. Not exaggerated (as if I needed to) and not lied. My review contained both my experience with how they generally dealt with the launch and my actual gameplay experience. Both were bad, they just were. So, you can look at it the way you want, I did nothing more but to express my experience. What I'm saying is that if they had dealt with the launch differently and if they had given me the impression their intentions were right, I might have kept it to myself first.
Just so you know, I also pointed fingers to STEAM and how they seem to have NO quality checks or norms at all before giving out the Early Access status. They need to be much harsher in that.
Hillariously, we now have players complaining about a 'Chinese Invasion' where they are claiming all the islands they can and killing any none chinese bases, it looks like there is even a move towards petitioning to have Chinese banned or at least have their own game seperate from everyone else.
So, basically, the Chinese are just being...Chinese?
This is where they went wrong and this is why it ultimately is their fault for misrepresenting the state of the game:
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Everything in the features section will be there around Early Access Launch and the game will be an unparalleled massively multiplayer experience from Day One.”
I agree with everything about their fault... But can we talk about what it has instead of "what if"? Just for a bit?
It's beating a dead horse. I know EA is shitty. They did shitty things. How many times do we need to keep repeating that?
I would say as many times as people feel the need to whine about people whining about the shitty EA things.
S o we heard about the patching and i saw one streamer endorse them by stating how much patching they have already done. Well to make sure they are not called out on it,they added a line that says "all of the patch content may not be in the present patch but will be in a future patch".
Well you can't put something into a patch note release unless it is actually implemented,so another form of misrepresentation. Then something else caught my eye but of course not being a member of their team i can only speculate. They admitted a rocky start because as typical the excuse, they did not expect THAT many players. So then they go on to say they TUNED their systems to handle it.
That sounds so hilarious it isn't funny. So what that tells me is they simply downgraded all the nodes and anything else that might lag the game with all the action going on.It would also explain why in most areas there was very little in way of animals. This can also be achieved by turning down the AI which is a huge hog on systems and would explain the AWFUL AI i have been seeing.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

When Lineage 1 had US Servers the Koreans dominated. NA players whined to no end over it. It was really embarrassing. I think it made it that much harder for decent NA players to earn respect.
This dominating is more from poor foresight/testing of the land claim mechanic, though.
All they have to do to prevent anyone from removing their stake-in-the-ground is to walk into the area periodically. There are no buildings player can destroy to release the land or anything.
It's a pretty "player-owned territory" 101 scenario.
I guess for single-player games I'm not going to buy them until the Ultimate GOTY version. And for MMORPG's I'm not going to get into them until their first Expac is ironed out some...
Cohhcarnage is streaming ATLAS on Twitch, right now. Feel free to go watch for yourself. Crashes and rubber-banding is being misreported.
Cohh has a private server setup with double XP and double resources...there's a reason he's enjoying it..
Yeah he had his viewers donating hundreds if not thousands of dollars to make that server possible. I am not sure how many IPs he bought. I suspect only a few but he also has a fairly large following so he probably close to 7500 subscribers. i dont think he ever says what he has but it could even be more than that.
But always funny people watching these private servers and thinking its indicative of the game. The same way they all think ARK is so awesome. Go log into an official server and come back and tell us what you think of ARK.
I would like to play ATLAS because it has some cool features, (I would say the modders they hired to do some of that werent overwhelmed) but I am not investing time and energy into something that is first off going to get wiped (or should) and secondly wont ever be optimized and wont ever be that 'this is MY game game'. If i want to play a game for a hundred hours or so I will just keep playing Wither 3 (still havent finished every ending) or keep playing Stellaris, or get some other game that you can play a few different ways and waste a few hundred hours in. I put almost 1500 hours into ARK and I havent played it since they released that paid DLC. Whatever the dragon one was.
But basically that stream completely defines the title of this article. Another complete misrepresentation of what 95% (or more) of the people who are going to play the game can expect.
Another clearly sponsored article that sucks up to a company fucking up. Well done you guys.
If it were sponsored, there would be a disclaimer. You realize people can have a different opinion from you and not be paid to have it?
I realize this is tremendously shocking to someone who hasn't had the chance to get to know very many people and socialize with them, but different people like different things. My wife loves pickles for instance, and I hate them. She wasn't paid to like them by anyone, it's just the way her personal tastes run.
Cohh has a private server setup with double XP and double resources...there's a reason he's enjoying it..
Yeah, and there are plenty of private servers to pick from that have 5x everything, or more. I checked around tonight and they were all under-populated.
Were you not aware of that?
Besides, I seriously doubt the double xp/gathering has much to do with anything. From what I've seen, he's not exactly easy-mode guy unless he's just testing something out.
Why is everybody discussing this game like a full released Version. Its Early Access, there can be problems. Y, the trailer was not what the game looks like, but they are never!!!
I am having a blast with my friends, and for the people who cant login: We hadnt issues logging in for days, jumping from Server to server.
So go on Bashing a game that you dont want to play. I gotta leave, do some sailing and sh**!
Cheers guys, dont let a game ruin your day, just dont play it os ots not fun to you!

Though I do agree with you I am playing on official server alone and prob because this is my first ark experience and I liked the whole maritime theme I really enjoy the sense of adventure. Once I figured out all you need is a raft with a bed, storage box and a campfire on it not even full of resources (hell I gave all my stuff away before I sailed away thinking it was a death sentence) to leave freeport it opened up for me at least been on several islands its fun several death islands too.
I never really got into Darkfall but this is fun so far.
I mean seriously, you don't like his opinion so you're going to broadly accuse him of pandering with no actual specifics and you don't even have the character to be civil about it.
Civility requires a certain level of intellect. The sort who would launch into early and unsubstantiated accusations like that is either a child or has the mind of one. It's highly likely they'll never even realize how moronic they've been, and aren't really capable of having it explained to them.

See... I thought the attacks were unfair but you’ve just taken it up 3 notches. Just a suggestion but if you are going to be given a platform for posting your opinion you might want to develop a thicker skin.

I might've been more specific than that; there are very intellectual folks who struggle with emotional restraint. Emotional intelligence is a very specific kind of intelligence.
For example, there are a number of historically idolized authors that were notorious wrecks emotionally. Poe was still very much an intellectual and student of the written word, in spite of his serious emotional issues.

the private servers aren't playing a different game or modded out the wazoo with kits, random additional content, etc, it's the exact same game, just slightly higher rates. It doesn't change what content the game has or what can be done by the player.
What he likes and said is the smoother experience of he's own server which he started before the fixes, but time and time again people have said has more or less been sorted now.
The way you're talking is as if he fixed the bugs, but in the content himself completely revamping the game.
So overall is does represents the game when the servers run well, which they do now on official.
Why is everybody discussing this game like a full released Version. Its Early Access, there can be problems. Y, the trailer was not what the game looks like, but they are never!!!
They advertised the trailer of being in game footage though so the expectation is already set by the company.
It is in game footage, look at the animation and movement then go in game and tell me it's not the same, they're both janky and not very smooth. the graphics are the same, you can do everything shown in the trailer, build your own ship, fight other ships, fight elemental, be attack by mermaids, fight ghost ships, tame animals.
It does what any trailer will do an show you all the best bits. I'm truly confused to what is being misrepresented?
IDK how this game is still second in Steam sales, over 50k people playing yet the reviews are terrible, masochism?
Do you trust 100% when someone says "FUN" or "BAD" or do you read what they're saying instead and judge based on that?
I don't know how many "bad" reviews I've read that explained why they thought it was bad and made me want to play something.
Just a thought.
And for me there are some reviews where the issues they pointed out are issues I know I would have with the game as well. Strictly saying "I was bored after and hour" or "it crashes or can not run on my system" or "pure garbage" isn't really always going to steer me away.
If its a widespread performance issue for everyone or a major gameplay mechanic that has been broken forever or is just stupid then I might begin to question the game.
This game is on my wishlist, but I'm gonna wait a year for it to start to look a bit more solid. It's EA so I don't expect it to be perfect, but I do before I put any money on it. My point is I think a lot of the folks dropping bad reviews are still playing the crap out of it.
