Astellia Online is another MMO headed our way from the Asian market, but will it remain an awe-inspiring heavenly body like Halley’s comet or explode on (near) impact like the Tunguska object? Red attends a launch party and endures all forms of hardships to find out for his readers.

In this case - the faster it comes to west - the faster it will shut down.

This game is terrible - again very surprised that they are wasting time to even bring this to the western market.

Just my 2c - I found it really bad, from mechanics, to gimmicky card system to the worst hub questing system period.

This game has no chance of making it in the western market sadly. I hope I am wrong - but time will tell.

I know nothing at all about his game because I never really followed it much. I will give it a go when it comes out.

I don't mind these minimalistic mmorpgs, they are easy to get into and easy to get out of, as long as there is a playerbase I would play it. The anitmations do look bland as F tho.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

FFXi has the npc collection idea but unlike MOST mmopg's is based around forming a full group. This sounds typically like a single player experience that i imagine yet again uses a login screen to simply cash in.FFXI is also a JPN game that does not meet the tropes mentioned.

AION also had the color palette going,i feel it is simply different than we are used to seeing but is not better.Purple/pink type of colors.BDO maye have been a success story but imo for the graphics and not th game as imo the design is awful and reminded that i will likely NEVER see a good KR mmorpg.

sooooooooooo since this site never seems to support video use so we can actually see the game play ,i had to look online.Looks like a single player game as i expected.
Those so called npc's look like 12 year old girls, similar to the way GW1 started off.IMO that looks ridiculously silly,i can't imagine an adult playing a game surrounded by 12 year old girls.
BTW combat also looks typical KR,nothing has changed over there, they simply have a mindset that is copied over and over. The game seems to look similar to TERA.

Bottom line and the real bad part of the game?It looks VERY similar to the typical mobile p2w systems, where you collect identical items and combine them to form better items.Yep nothing has changed over there, copy copy copy.

The golden ratio is (1+sqrt(5))/2, or about 1.618. I'm not sure how you got that it was 1.4:1.

Do you call that good renders? Even Tera have much better graphics and is from 2012.
Do you know what is from 2012 too and works better than free target system? Hack N' Slash.
Why MMORPG don't follow the good path and try to evolve by turning back?
This game at first look just sucks like Bless lol.
Summoning is the principal aspect of the game? No sh*t... What about a Summoner class in any other MMORPG out there. Oh right... Everyone have that XD

After watching the videos posted by DMKano and Mikeha, I'm leaning towards this game flopping a couple of months after release. It really looks like a game that should have released 8-10 years ago, to rival other tab targeting mmorpgs like Aion and Tera. There's a niche for it still, sure, but I'm not sure how polished it will be on release to warrant giving it a try.

Also, that 1st gameplay video posted, I'm not really sure if it's due to the recording or not, but the game stutters every so often that it becomes painful to watch after a while.

Ah, the wonders of unreal engine 3.  :D

You better not be calling my Tera a tab targeting game. Still the best action combat of any open world mmorpg I know of. But I agree, this game looks like it came out in 2012

Probably at uploaders end, steparus videos look smooth AF. Even PVP Zergfest looked smooth, much smoother than GW2 WvWvW Zergfest

Clearly you haven't blade BDO then. Tera is hot garbage next to BDO in terms of action combat in an open world mmorpg.

Can't this be also said for EU/NA MMO's ?! The difference is that Asian's are releasing way more MMOs then Western's , and so the probability to hear that an Asian MMO is closing down is much higher.

The character art is nowhere near BDO quality - the game looks WAY worse than BDO - they are not even close:

    Actual gameplay:

To use Astellia and BDO in the same sentence in terms of graphics is just so wrong.

The animations are so stiff - circa 2003 - oof

I wonder if your comments are intended to make you look like you are lying. I mean no offence, the graphics and animations are worst then BDO, true , but .. circa 2003 ? Would you want me to search all MMO's videos from 2003 and give them to you? Or you know, you can google them yourself, right?

Animations are decent. I mean , at least better or on pair with ArcheAge. Am I right?

    imagine that!

Seriously, i understand that fan service can be really annoying, but what makes you think that playing as an old character makes you more adult?

EDIT: by the way, In the DLC of The Last of Us you play as Ellie and she is far more badass than Joel IMO and she was a minor. Why is it OK there but not OK in a flipping anime style game where everything looks younger by default?

And neither fares well if you compare them to the combat you can get from games like Kritika Online or Spiral Knights if you drop the open world requirement.

TERA is awkward on a controller.  Maybe it's better on keyboard+mouse.  Black Desert's control options are just bad, as they're insufficiently configurable.  Both games also tune the PVE combat to be stupidly easy, as if to make it so that you can dodge nearly everything, but there's no point in doing so because the mobs are so weak.

I rather they add english to the asian version instead of wasting money servicing the west directly just to shut down soon after. Many of them shut down because of their low quality while others are much more acceptable and still shut down because most of the western users prefer western companies out of pride.

I like asian mmos but i never support them monetarily for that same reason. They keep shutting down and i ain't wasting my money. I rather support their asian servers if they had english menus and subtitles.

I think BDO and Blade & Soul have better combos than Tera. They feel like actually chaining combos. Like chaining combos in DMC, Bayonetta and God of War. Tera's combo system (unless they recently changed it) is just a rotation of skills in the same way you rotate skills to kill a boss in WoW.

That is from my own experience with these games.

EDIT: On the other hand, i think those 3 mmos have the same problem with the combat that is designed to mow down trash mobs with little challenge, which is a bit disappointing.
