As promised in last week's producer's letter, the EverQuest II team has laid out the first details about Nagafen, the seasonal PvP server. The server will be opening for beta testing soon with the lofty goal to "relive as much of the glory days of EverQuest II PvP as possible, and bring back the rakish spirit of the Nagafen community".

Will the server have Krono enabled? That's worse than the cash shop, imo.

As a non EQ player, what is Krono?

I'd do it if they didn't allow Veteran Rewards etc. I want it to be completely fresh and even up front. No thing granted. I doubt that's how it will be.

    It's legalized gold selling.

Kronos are trade-able currency that are redeemed for subscription time. Players can buy them from the Daybreak store using RL money, and then trade them with other players for platinum or items in game.

There was never a point in EQ2's history where PVP was good or fun.

This is what i have been saying about DBG,they have shown only an effort to find gimmicks to generate money from vanilla servers to this. This  lack of effort is not how you conduct a good business. In essence this really is just rehashing the servers again, same thing they did before.

Do i have the answers on how to turn i around?Well i wouldn't have dug this deep to begin with,he changes they showed under Smedley years ago when they went for the cash shop idea was terrible.

Events, multi class it,several tweaks, more depth in the combat design and more variation so that everything in game is not a simple TIER where ev1 wants only ONE certain set.I could explain this further but i'm not interested at this point ,they blew it way b4 DBG took over.

One ting i found out and was not a full believer in the beginning but Smedley really is a bad leader. When all that arguing over SWG was going on i defended Smedley and the team, now FF many years,i feel their greed and never getting there anyhow is what sunk this ship.Blizzard is doing the EXACT same things now, going way more for greed and ways to generate revenue than simply giving the fans FAIR value and a fair effort.
Everything does NOT need to be in cash shop, thank god i was able to play under a proper setting when supporting Square for a lot of years.

The real funny thing of it all and without me even realizing it until this very second....funny i am playing a new game i seem to love and guess what.....NO cash shop in Atlas.Thinking about it now,i think at least for myself that cash shops just ruin the entire gaming experience,it undermines everything that is good about a game.

This was the epitome of my MMO experience. People give gear based themeparks a lot of grief but in this game I would use guerrilla tactics to take out 6-7 people from a full 4x raid, by myself. I've never experienced this in any game prior or since, including any of the so called "skill based" pvp games on the market.

There were several annoying mechanics that people would exploit(zone lines and cliff suicide) but it was, overall, top notch.

Awesome. The only thing is the most kill reward thing. Needs to be reasons to kill. Reasons not to kill.

When I began playing EQ2 I really liked it. I didn't think it was quite the legacy successor to EQ1 as I had hoped but it had its own good merits & I had fun playing it. I had never been a fan of crafting in mmos but with EQ2 it struck the right chords with me being more interactive, & I enjoyed it enough to get to high levels with a couple of my characters. EQ2 also still has my favourite mount of all time in all the mmos I've tried which was that Rhinoceros. I know there were better mounts, but the animation for that cute beast was just a right amount of balance with the movement. Most of my EQ2 time I wasn't a subscriber though, even though I did occasionally but I learned & thought SOE treated their players in EQ1 terribly, but a nice in game player gifted me one of those houses once. So a couple of months went by & I saved up because I remembered that same player had mentioned they wanted something. Back in the SOE era you could only mail something as a gift to a player if you were subscribed so I subscribed for a month. It was afterwards when I still couldn't send the gift that some SOE customer service representative pointed out the small print that you had to be subscribed for 31 days to be able to gift an item & of course a subscription was for 30 days. From that moment on I never tossed another dime to SOE. I even still have some currency on my account after all these years, but don't play EQ1 or EQ2, & Vanguard back in the day, to really utilize it. I haven't really heard many good things about DayBreak neither though I've noticed most of their sales are for subscribers only. It seems some of these companies take a more stick than a carrot approach anymore which to me isn't enticing nor inspires confidence.

The cash shop practices make EQ2 it a travesty of what it once was.

I completely agree, smedley demolished everything they had going for them. Also could you imagine SwG with a cash shop? They really do destroy everything about gaming in the first place....

In all honesty. What do you expect from DBG at this point? They pretty much either fired every capable experienced dev over the last couple years and rest just walked out long ago.

I wonder how much personnel they actually have left still. Can't be more than a barebones skeleton crew that can just keep the servers running and put out some rehashed content now and then, which some recolored assets.

Sorry dude....not saying you're wrong about daybreak, but ripping on any game for cash grabbing then wrapping up your post promoting Atlas is seriously....w.....t.....f..... laughable.

Daybreak is really scrambling to be relevant these days doing anything to milk what few players they have left.  I very much doubt this will bring many new players to the game.

And what it once was - was bad to begin with, IMO - a crap version of much better game (EQ1)

In my opinion EQ2 was much better than EQ1 once they got all the bugs out.  EQ1 was just a horrible game whose success was strictly because there was no competition at the time.

dont think blizz would allow tokens to sell on classic , that would destroy the economy , or maybe dont put it at first...and add it later (1year or so)

Interesting. I thought 0 players was indivisible!

God knows how that player fragmentation works...
