Jahlon... you sound like a smart guy who was so close to breaking free but deep down you really just want to find a way to believe in this guy. You are allowing him to revise the past.
Let me ask you this. Are you really looking objectively at this or are you looking at it as someone who put a lot of time and effort into the MMORPG community and really want it to succeed? By this... have you taken a step back and looked at it from the perspective of someone who saw the Battle Royale went in and actually spent money on it? Not an MMORPG backer but a Battle Royale customer? The meaning of viable and stand-alone product is not really open to debate. He is a marketing guy. It's not an accident that he chose those words.
Now that it is a failure he is trying to be a revisionist and trying to use doublespeak.
I have not played but I assume assets were sold for the game and that this was not "broken" like the website? If this was the case, should he not offer refunds to people who bought stuff in the fully viable, stand alone Battle Royale to now be told it wasn't really and was just considered a test?
Even if the in game store never opened... this was still a disaster. The stated purpose of spinning it off to avoid confusion did the exact opposite. People are continually posting how disappointed they are that Ashes turned into a Battle Royale game because they have no idea about the silly split. The casual observer believes they are still one and the same.
The bottom line. I think its very obvious that the entire thought process here was to make a quick buck by dipping into the hot Battle Royale market. If they got any testing info from it that would have been gravy, but I think you have to be crazy to believe that was the main purpose.

Trying to be as objective as I can, means I have to let him answer the questions he gets asked. Once they are asked and answered, they become part of public record.
Ironically, Steven is very good at not contradicting himself, but some recently hired members of his staff aren't. However, if they have a yellow name and they make a statement on discord, it is in fact an official statement.
Let's be honest, you know what Viable Means, I know what Viable Means, he knows what viable means, my cat knows what viable means. When you are talking about a product and you use the word viable, you mean economically viable.
When you say stand-alone and viable, you mean able to be self sufficient. When you do an interview and you say you are monetizing it to offset testing costs, but then you do that fat EA style cash grab, you aren't fooling anyone.
Its point blank why I made the statement that I did on Discord that started it all off. Any chance for APOC: BR to be successful is gone.
If Steven wants to do the word-smith game. He has every right to. You can't, however, try to be transparent and try to be genuine and try to work smith all at the same time.
Its like the previous video when I dumpstered the CML for trying to wordsmith the word "cancel" with me. Sorry, that was never going to happen.
Now, when it comes to the original intents, I honestly do believe the original intent was to get data from it.
Then at some point someone thought they could make some money on it.
Then that became the primary focus.
And when it failed they are now trying to spin it.
I mean, honestly, if they want to have a discussion about their project management and their timelines and their production schedule, I would love to have that conversation. The problem they are going to run into is that who do they have discuss it with me?
I can't be dazzled with brilliance because I see through that shit from doing government project management. Try to show me something shiny on the left and I'm going to ignore it and stay focused on the point at hand.
I can't be baffled with bullshit, because I don't think they have anyone on the team with more experience in project management than I have, so not only do I speak the language of production and project management, I speak it at least as well (and probably better) than they do.
At this point, the only criteria I'm judging them on is deadlines. Are you meeting deadlines. They made it a point to say on 6 December 2016:
"a matter of fact when you think about; and this is just me speaking as a player when you think about other projects that have begun let's say either from a crowdfunding standpoint or from you know Kickstarter whatever the people may be and you look at the schedules that they released from there their inception, none of them have really met any of those milestones. We have still met our milestones and we are continuing on schedule to meet those milestones;"
And they haven't really met any milestones since
We had testing from 19 December through 26 December. Then it had to be taken down.
We were suppossed to have testing each weekend on and after 11 Jan. We had testing on 11 Jan Skipped the weekend of the 18th Had testing 24-27 Jan Skipped the weekend of the 1st of Feb Had a spot test on the 7th Skipped the weekend of the 9th Skipped the weekend of the 16th
So at the end of the day, if someone wants to put out a position, I'm willing to listen to their position.
I'm just waiting for the Creative Director's letter because I have one question to ask, and then no matter what the answer every answer leads to a follow up question. Its just a matter now to see if they will step up to the mic and come clean about not meeting "Before 2020" , if they plan to say they can make "before 2020" and actually make it, or if they try to spin doctor it again.

TL;DR: Ashes of Creation is still an MMORPG in development. Creative Director's letter is coming out on 7 March with a livestream on 8 March.
