Ive known this for quite some time , they have 3 other projects also in the works .. Very exciting time for FCMKF , like I said last year they have turned a corner , the future looks bright for them
Funcom has, to my knowledge atleast, never closed an mmo down, they keep their games Running, and supported. And as mentioned, they are not too scared of doing things different. I for One, am pleased funcom is making dune games, i can hardly Think of a company Better suited to bringing to life that Setting. One han argue the succes of age of conan and the secret World, but they stayed Really true to the lore and settings, of the 2 great authors of their time. I am excited.
I don't have anything against Funcom. In fact, I always liked the feeling/mood of their games and the way they brought some new and interesting ideas/implementation.
ex.: Stats/Skill system in AO was very nice. "Finishing" moves in AoC were a nice touch that never got old.. and investigation missions in TSW were just awsome (when you did'nt spoil them with walkthroughs that is..).
Anyways, I just hope they won't play it safe and just go for yet another survival game...
There is so much potential with this license.. (at the same time, expectations will need to be toned down a bit.. cause with such a big name.. we are bound for disapointment sadly).
Anyways, looks like we'll revisit the Dune Universe in the years to come (new movie, new games...), and that's great news!
doubtful we see a full MMO, or survival genre. Why would they compete with their already existing survival game, exiles? And I do not see them wanting to risk an MMO at the moment.
I do welcome a solid RPG experience, in form of a co-op or single player.
Hopefully more than just a Dune-themed survival or looter-shooter. The Dune universe deserves a full-on MMO... although I have to say, I did enjoy the Dune RTS games back when RTS was a brand new thing.
After being stationed in the desert for 3 years, and having my only overseas deployment end up in a desert land, I can hardly stand playing video games set in a desert environment at all.
I just can't do it.
It's a weird thing I guess, but I need to see greenery and mountains and water, and lively things. It doesn't matter that it may all conspire to kill me, as long as there's green, water, and life. Or maybe at least one zone I can retreat to occasionally for a break from it. It can't all be bleak, barren, and lifeless. Naval carrier duty can cure your problem of airad climates.

Funcom is one of those companies that I don't perceive to have the best technical skill, nor the best ideas in how to implement things, but they do try different things and are quite capable at establishing the mood for a game.

Amiga days
Atari ST for me but yeah.

Exciting stuff, I always loved the Dune universe and appreciate the fact Funcom seem to always get interesting IP's to work with. Weirding way combat, yes please!
I look forward to enjoying some/all of these upcoming games, after their inevitable dumpster-fire launches. Or....OR, maybe Funcom will have finally learned from previous launches.

All I can remember is The Secret World launch, and how the character models and animation looked and I quietly weep in the corner thinking of all the things that can go wrong with Funcom at the helm of Dune.
I really hope it's an MMORPG with great community wide story at the least and relevant atmosphere. No more "chosen one" MMOs. I won't dare expect any kind of decent combat.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Not really sure what the goal of the game might be, but my crystal ball says there will be 2 factions, the Empire and everyone else and no one will have a light-sabre despite having jedi-like powers.
It seems to me if you're a fan of source material, Funcom is a best case scenario. One of the few companies who atleast attempt to match the tone of a setting and keep things semi-canon.
To all the people commenting negatively against Funcom, who would be your better choice?
After Age of Conan and TSW, I very much doubt Funcom will ever be in a mood for a full MMO. Some kind of light version - survival, or something like Destiny - sure, why not? But a full-blown MMO? No way Funcom will go that way - they barely survived their last attempt.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

“Open World Multiplayer” genre
Notice the lack of the word "Massive". This is on purpose.

Honestly I wish funcom would do a warhammer fantasy mmo.
Will be interesting to see what they pull off.
