Monster spawn design , Zone VS quests

iixviiiixiixviiiix Member RarePosts: 2,256
In older MMORPG , you normally see design were monsters was spawned depend on zone . For example in zone 1 spawned monster types A B C D ,  zone 2 spawned monster types C D E F , while zone 3 spawned monster type A B E F . Those monsters spawned randomly in the zone and don't have special spawn spot

Then we have spawn design that depend on quests , for example quest 1 require to kill monster B , then designer will place monster B spawn spot near quest 1 hub . Long to short , it's WOW ( or EQ ?) spawn design .

Personally i prefer zone type monster spawn , it give out feel like natural , while quests spawn feel like a designed park .

I agree, but I'd like to see it advanced.
I'd like MOBs to move into other zones, unless they are zones they definitely don't habitate in. Or, have spawns spill over from one zone to another, as opposed to MOB movement.
Some semblance of what you'd expect in a world.

By move into mean they travel to other zone after get spawned or just change spawn spot ?

I'd like to see them travel. UO had wandering MOBs that settled into places where their type of food was, or type of terrain. They'd move if their area was overcrowded because they didn't have enough food. UO had to scrap that design very early because their world was too small and players hunted everything, making none of that early design matter.
What would happen to my thinking is that they move outside of their zone and if they set up a "foothold", a base camp so to speak, bringing a new spawn point to that location. This could be a camp, a small cave settlement, a nest, or whatever fits the MOB type.

I could also accept a change of spawn affecting other zones, simulating movement.
The best would probably be a hopping of spawn points outward from starting zone when food and/or resources become scarce.

But there are things involved in movement that can add to game play and world goings-on that I think would appeal to players and make the world feel more alive.

I hate artificial barriers, and that includes zones. Bubble technology works well.

I like the older design best because it made more sense than phasing and level scaling. Which has their places. When you see phrases like why bother having levels then the system fails.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    Worst case scenario?

You're engrossed in your favourite game ... drilled down on slaying evil, however and whenever it manifests its death-dealing-ass ... when suddenly your Significant Other stops by to check in on you bcs you've been M.I.A for like A WEEK.

It's at that moment — when you feel a tap on your shoulder and hear a soft voice whisper, "I've made you some tea and cake" — that a perfectly innocent and friendly greeting can seem to you like A BEAST FROM THE PIT just SPAWNED directly BEHIND YOU.

tbh I never fail to be surprised by how moments like this ALWAYS take me by surprise ...

I have been interested in creating websites for a long time. I found a lot of information about this, a step-by-step guide. It helped me a lot in https://limeup.io/blog/how-to-create-a-betting-website/ creation. Without these recommendations it would not have been possible to create such an interesting and popular site.
