This week there was a blog post from Mike Z, Game Director, to let all of us know a bit more about what ArenaNet’s plan moving forward after the recent layoffs and to give us some idea of what we have to look forward to in Guild Wars 2 moving forward. If you haven’t read it yet you really should because aside from there being some specific things on the horizon there’s also a lot of exciting potentials set forth here.

Guild Wars 3, full progress wipe.
In other news the government announces there will be no expansions of existing services be they social services or defence and every business in the country announces no new expansions be they of staff, premises or new business locations.
'But I think no more expansions might be the better long-term call here as well' said Scott clearly as off his head as Mr Baird.
I don’t think no new ones ever is likely but letting the new ones settle a bit is probably not a bad choice. Also, I’d really prefer them to stick to only adding them when they’ll add something meaningful to the profession rather than falling into the trap of adding them because “ermg the players expect it”.
I dont think they originally wanted to release expansions, but instead just improve the game with more updates and steady content.
Expansions though, do have a lot of weight behind them. And not just in their content but also in their reach to people. Even people who dont even play the game, when they hear expansion they all become interested to see what it could be about. Updates or living story isn't much of a buzz word to most people regardless or not if the update was a game changer or improved things.
I also remember them saying they would start releasing updates/content that would normally be left up to expansions, but released in living world updates.
Elite Specs only intensified cookie cutter builds.
What they should do from here, is to work on balancing the specs they have to create more viable and diverse builds for what players want to do.
So instead of having 1 build that is best for raiding, one build that is best for PVP, 1 for WVW and another for OW. They should have several optional play styles for each. So you can play your profession in more possible ways in your intended path.
cause FF14's new class is lookin mighty good these days.
But the real answer is, If you are having fun, keep playing, if you are not having fun, it's time to move on.
Ohh after many years they finally understand
That's the only good thing about this blog post...
Belt out the holiday junk like they do, but make any real content an expansion, one with a focus.
They are where they are because there's just not much to spend money on. Players that play the game religiously... yeah they have enough gold to convert to gems. People who only come in every few months? Yeah, they aren't going to spend money on frivolous cosmetics.
They are creating content.. they just aren't creating compelling content. If they compiled everything into a single release and sold it periodically, maybe they wouldn't have had to lay off so many people.
Oh dang I didn't even know this site showed your play time in gw2. When did they add that feature?
Completely agree with this. I want expansions. They excite me. The Living World not so much.
