Estimated player #'s for SotA

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531

Here's some estimated player numbers for SotA. As far as I can tell, it doesn't account for multiple characters played by the same person. Remember when they said they needed 50K active players a month to be profitable? Not to turn a decent profit, just to be profitable, period. But now that they have made the completely voluntary and wise strategic move to give up their office, I'm sure that active player requirement is much lower.

I believe Star said they need 10,000 players, not 50k.

Shroud doesn't lend itself to alts unless you are twinking PvP, RPing, getting quest gear, or using an alt to grind crafting.

The only one of those who would be picked up is getting gear (adventure). The others would not show up in these stats.

Things that don't show up are play styles like mine, merchant/crafter. I am rarely in those stats. RPers, events, authors, musicians, and as I stated crafters and merchants will not be showing in those numbers.

Logically the actual number of players is then much higher. But since you don't play the game, you just attack from the sidelines, you wouldn't know that.

Shroud of the Avatar is still running?  Thank God I was able to sell off all of my investment at no loss, early enough to avoid the crash. What a steaming pile of poop.

Nope, 50K users.  Forward to 7:30 and see for yourself.  I do Imagine that the requirement is lower now, as their overhead would be much lower since they've stripped the company to the bone.

Yeah, you're right. Regardless, why tear down a free to play game you aren't involved with?

You do realize that was from 2017 two years ago and yet not 50k and we are still moving forward.

Glad you got what you put in out, most us dont care for p2w people that make the game away to make real money.  That is what caused many issues for alot of peoples.   most us buy into the game so that it keeps getting developed and so that we can keep moving forward towards what the players are asking.   The game has come a long long way since the "crash"  which by the way was the devs pushing out a lot of the p2w stuff.

My money still goes into the game and will do so for years to come.

I gave the game a try and found it to be very tedious and aggravating. When I heard that what was left of the staff were working out of their homes and the company had no physical address, that did not give me the warm fuzzy feels inside. I am pretty sure, just to boost numbers they count people like me who just tried the game but did not any spend money on it. There would be no point in spending money on a game that might close in a few months.

2252 listed in the kills list for the last 30 days with 17 listed an 0 kills.  found out that the metrics only add to the lists based on logins in the 1, 7 and 30 days that have a kill or death.  will see what its like over the next few weeks seeing this is pretty new still.   can't wait to see other metrics.   This also puts to rest all the people claiming steam numbers are the be all.   It also validates a bunch of the players here that were stating they had 1000+ active friends on their lists.

DarcSchnider here is the capture, thanks for mentioning this.  I was one of the people you are talking about.  I posted a few times that I had over a thousand on my friends list long ago.  Been playing forever and numbers are always increasing.  Would be curious to see what it looks like after a release when the spike of logins goes up :)

on another note you see the top kills people have that is nuts lol. 47k kills some really hard core players.
  • HilltHillt Member UncommonPosts: 72
Looks like mine and all my guildies alts are also listed. There was a post with many of the people stating they had 5+ alt accounts for rewards and the free Oracle daily gold, I guess those are all counted in those numbers too.

I have never seen anyone say that steam numbers were 100% correct or even close. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

only listed if you kill things or die with alts.  Most alts are for subs or crafting mainly they will not register.

My guild kept killing each other so we would get their bones & skulls to decorate. That's why we have lots of PKs.

Looked at leader boards today for PVE kills this last 30 days.  Looks like there is about 4k players (including alts) which is up from 2.5k players from Jun 12th last month.

I think total of 2 252 active validates the Steam's numbers. If we'd count that average active players plays about an hour each day, the numbers would match.

I gotta say that they still are updating the game regularly.  I don't know what that means, but if they were truly hurting, I would think that those updates would be slowing down significantly.

If you look back, there is less and less actual content in each release. The big drop off was when they fired 3/4 of the staff so it's expected, but most of the content in the past few months releases are minuscule comparatively.

Look at the bright side, so many people are joining every day that they may be able to afford a studio again and not have to work from their garage. Heck for the past 2 months they have been trying to hire a new CS person, where is that person supposed to interview/work from? So they need to get an office soon! Woohoo!

According to shourdoftheavatar.net's statistics they're getting less than 2 new players a day.

Obviously. Isle Of Storms isn't the starting area anymore, that method doesn't work.

I haven't played the game in a looong time.  Id guess a year?  But due to the screenshot above I feel compelled to patch and go check the "leaderboard" for the last 24 hours.  Let's see what I find. (If I can figure out how to access this "leaderboard"

Still running, and still one of if not the most actively improved games I play.

Regarding your view of the game, opinions vary. Then again, I didn't use the game as an investment platform, so perhaps had more modest expectations.
